Chapter 9  A Fight Between Men

Lu Mengmeng's hands were trembling. It would be hard to survive Lin Ruize this time.

"If your face is ruined by my actions, I will . . . I will marry you.” She remembered his promise. Before confessing, he’d have had to start thinking about marriage. What if he said, "Yes, this is my girl friend" to Danjinos? What would she do? Would she confront Danjinos for him, or was it better pretending to be a soft and weak girl who needed his protection?

“No, we’re friends,” he said.

She was disappointed by this statement, but confirmed, “Yes, we are only friends.”

She thought that she'd hid her feelings toward Lin Ruize very well, but Danjinos understood everything.

It was as if he was thinking, It looks like my fiancée liked this guy, but the feeling was not returned.

“Come here.” He licked his lips, feeling at a loss and angry. “Let me check your wounds.” You dare to love another guy instead of me?

Using the opportunity to attend her wounds, he tried every manner to show her his affection. He used his long and beautiful fingers to pick a cotton ball with alcohol and softly clean her wound. However, his slightest movement still brought her pain and she winced, catching her breath. He blew on her face to help her feel better. Lu Mengmeng stared, too nervous to say a word. She feared he might swallow whole to punish her.

“You have a cute face!” Her fiancé praised, touching her skin with his fingers. Lu Mengmeng knew nothing about his plan, so she felt keeping silent was the best choice.

“The nosebleed has now ceased, but the wounds on your face are a little troublesome. Don’t get this wet for the next few days. You are so lucky to have me; I won’t let your face be ruined.”

When he said the word ruined, he gave her tolerant gaze, as she looked at the troublemaker. If her face was ruined, would he indeed marry her?

She got the strange feeling that Lin Ruize was looking in her direction, but his focus was on Danjinos.

Was anything about this fish worth his attention? Why didn’t he take this opportunity to look at her?

Danjinos noticed her doubts and concerns about Lin Ruize and he felt more upset.

“You like him?” he asked.

“Eh, no . . . no . . .” But her red face betrayed her.

“You human beings are difficult to understand. You obviously like him, and yet you deny it to me.” He disliked secret loves and regarded it as her attempt to hide her true feelings.

Lu Mengmeng did not know how to answer him, and she still wondered about Lin Ruize's reaction to this topic. She secretly glanced at him.

Lin Ruize simply acted as if he didn't know either of them and had not heard their conversation.

“Hey, I am talking to you. Don’t you hear me?” Danjinos turned his anger toward the innocent boy.

“What?” Lin Ruize looked at him with anxiety.

“Since she likes you, we’ll have a fight between us, according to the a.s.sociation’s Law on the matter,” Danjinos gave out his challenge.

“What? You want to have a fight with me?”

“Yes. The stronger male wins the love of female.” His reasoning was still that of an animal instead of a human being.

Though he would not prevent her from loving the compet.i.tor, he thought he could win with his handsome looks and capabilities. And, the result would be his fiancée leaving this loser and come back to him.

“Let’s have a duel at the school party three days from now,” Danjinos offered as an appointment.

Lu Mengmeng was surprised and became worried. She knew his strength—this guy could even eat his opponent if he was not happy.

But before she had the chance to say no, Lin Ruize accepted the challenge.

“Good. How shall we compete?” Lin Ruize asked.

“In our Creature Circle, any male who wants to win a female’s adoration should compete in the following four areas: personality, dancing ability, singing, and strength. Do you agree? If you win, I will accept you two to being together.”

“I . . . ” Lin Ruize tried to say something but Lu Mengmeng rejected the idea. “I am not an item. You can’t take me as a prize.”

“Think about it.” Danjinos smiled at her. “What if the winner is him?”
