“Xiao Wu, I can’t believe you’re so bold!” Jier and Wolf were flying overhead with the asura when they sensed Feng Wu’s aura. They heard her words just as they were descending. It shocked Jier so much he lost control and fell the rest of the way down, dropping like a bucket from the sky. He also forgot to use an air art to cus.h.i.+on his fall so he would have died from the drop had it not been for the excessive amount of snow on the ground.
The teen in front wondered how best to refuse without hurting Feng Wu’s feelings. “I’m sorry, but I can’t think about marriage right now.”
“Oh.” Feng Wu nodded and said nothing more.
(Girl... Don’t tell me that’s all you’re going to say.) Wolf was disappointed in Feng Wu. (But I must admit you’ve got good taste. Do you know how many girls have tried to get a piece of that tush? Keep trying! Brother Wolf will support you!) Completely ignoring Jier in the snow, Wolf gave a really lousy fake laugh as he pretended he was just pa.s.sing through, as though he’d come upon them completely incidentally.
“Senior Wolf.” The teen noticed Wolf earlier but hadn’t wanted to make things more awkward by saying anything. Unfortunately despite his attempts, things were still unbearably awkward.
“You know this guy?” Jier asked Wolf as he looked at the teen still in the spring. The more Jier looked at the pretty boy in the spring the more his own face paled. Why did it feel like his little sister was being swindled by a pretty face?
“He’s your senior: Ming Xi, 5th year cla.s.s representative at Xingguang Holy Academy. Wolf smiled mischievously at Feng Wu and Ming Xi.
Jier was angry the pretty face was trying to seduce Feng Wu, but he didn’t rush in to challenge him since the other was a 5th year. “Senior Ming Xi, how is it that you’re here?” Although he didn’t rush directly into a fight, his tone was not friendly.
“May I get dressed first?” Ming Xi was feeling rather helpless in the nude. He’d never been so embarra.s.sed in his life. His senior just witnessed a random strange girl proposing to him, and now a junior was looking at him with hostility.
He knew without a doubt that news of a girl proposing to him would reach every nook and cranny of Star Marshall Hall the moment he stepped out of the spring. As for Xingguang Holy Academy, did he need to think about it? Gossip spread like wildfire. The juniors there had the biggest mouths ever.
Jier scowled and kept glaring at Ming Xi, refusing to turn his back and give the boy any privacy. Wolf had both arms crossed in front of his chest, clearly not intending to look away. Feng Wu stared raptly at him with her big dark eyes. He wasn’t sure she heard him...
He wanted to get out of his awkward position but the three people staring at him were unaccommodating. He imitated what Feng Wu did earlier, raising his hand and directing a large sheet of water toward them.
Caught completely by surprise, both Wolf and Jier were soaked.[notes] Feng Wu darted out of the way in time so she was completely dry.
“How hateful! Ice and snow everywhere and you splash water on us?!” Jier was hopping mad; smoke was coming off his head as he tried to dry off. He moved forward intending to scold the other some more only to find the object of his ire no longer in the spring, but on land and fully dressed, standing just a few feet from them.
The young man stood in the night smiling while wearing a blue and white colored robe. His golden hair s.h.i.+mmered under the moon. He was like an ethereal being watching over them with the moon’s glow bathing his entire body.
Jier was a guy, but even he had to admit Ming Xi guy was beautiful. His beauty was unlike Wolf's androgynous one though. No Ming Xi was like a male moon G.o.d. There was no way anyone would mistake him for anything other than male.
“There are some things I must do so I will return to the academy first.” Ming Xi took off to the sky immediately after speaking. If not for his incredibly fast flying air art, he would have been helpless. Had he not been so confused and stunned by the crazy turn of events, he would have left even sooner.
Jier flicked Feng Wu’s forehead. “You actually proposed to that guy? How old are you? You’re just a girl still. How can you get married?”
Feng Wu felt really wronged by this. She rubbed her forehead. “I’m not too young. I’m a mother!”
What could Jier say to such reasonable logic? He couldn’t say a thing. He could only sigh as he tried to explain to Feng Wu. “Xiao Wu, you can’t chose a guy based on his outward appearance. You don’t know what kind of person he is. What would you do if he’s a bad person? Your life would be ruined. You would have a lifetime of tears!”
Wolf had also talked to her about something like this back at the pastry shop.
Feng Wu blinked and blinked. “Is Senior Ming Xi a bad person?”
“…no.” Even though Jier didn’t want to say it, he had to agree that Ming Xi was a good catch. From what he knew, the guy wasn’t a gambler or a player. Frankly he was ten out of ten when it came to husband material.
“Then I didn’t choose wrong.” Feng Wu said seriously as she faced Wolf. [notes]
Wolf was speechless – a first for him.
Jier and Feng Wu returned to Pierre’s. The next day was a busy one for them. Together with Wolf they brought the asura to city hall to wrap up the case. Clara was released, and she and Pierre were reunited with Mr. Wenda’s spirit one last time before the old necromancer sent him onto the wheel of reincarnation.
Lydia[notes] was also given the option to reincarnate, however she declined. The old necromancer was a kind man. Instead of being angered by her refusal, he gave her another offer. Her soul was pure enough that if she wanted to she could strengthen her presence and get stronger. This would lessen the chances of dark necromancers being attracted to her.
There was no reason for Jier and Feng Wu to remain in the city after solving the crime. Neither had interest in the missing holy beast or in the rumored magician’s tomb.[notes] They decided to return to Zhongyang with Wolf.
And so it was that Feng Wu left Rime-Frost with a spirit contracted to her. She was so pure minded the old necromancer was not worried about her exploiting Lydia to commit any misdeeds. Lydia was the kind that didn’t like to be restrained so pairing her with Feng Wu was a good combination. Because of the contract she was able to stay inside Feng Wu’s spiritual sea.[notes] Theirs was an equal contract with neither party having power over the other.
Of course the trip back was easy and fully paid for by Wolf. It was just like Jier said, Wolf was a complete spendthrift.
