Chapter 220: There’s No Right or Wrong
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
When Xiang Wan woke up the next day, Bai Muchuan had already woken up.
He was sitting alone on the living room sofa, busy doing something with his mobile phone.
There was an adorable kind of regret in his eyes.
“Little Xiang Wan, did I miss something last night?”
“Big Chuanzi, what are you talking about?” Xiang Wan yawned as she spoke. She had come up with another new nickname for him and was shocked when she noticed Bai Muchuan ate about half of last night’s dishes.
She turned around and looked at him. “You ate them?”
“Yes.”
“Just like this?”
“… I’m hungry.”
Alright! Xiang Wan propped a hand on her forehead.
“You should warm the dishes up before you eat them, or you can wake me up to warm them for you…”
“Nah, no need.” Bai Muchuan got up lazily, walked over to her, and put his arms around her waist. The way he snuggled up to her—his clingy behavior—reminded Xiang Wan of a golden retriever that wanted to please its owner. “If I wake you up, it won’t be food I will think of eating.”
This fellow!
Xiang Wan looked at him with a half-smile.
“Who asked you to fall asleep? You lost your chance last night.”
“Tch! Then I shall steal a kiss…” Bai Muchuan gave her a peck on the cheek and said in a tone as though he had resigned to fate, “Forget it, you should gain some weight. You’re so skinny like a chick… I’m worried I’ll get indigestion.”
“Bai Muchuan!” Xiang Wan was angry and wanted to hit him. “Are you asking for a beating huh?”
“My little fairy, I’m in the wrong.”
The sudden apology came so fast like a hurricane that blew Xiang Wan’s displeasure away.
“Although you’re a little too skinny, those places that are supposed to have flesh are still fine. Maybe I can make do and just take a bite…”
“Bai Muchuan!”
The moment she raised an eyebrow, he immediately behaved himself.
“Hurry up and make breakfast. We still need to go to the hospital.”
“…”
Her temper was gone.
She realized she couldn’t really flare up at him.
…
Somehow, a lot of people caught hold of the news that Bai Muchuan was now back in Jin City.
In view of the sudden turn of event, Tang Yuanchu also had a puzzled look and said, “I didn’t know what happened. I’m innocent!” Small groups of people from the Criminal Investigation Unit split-up in batches and came to the hospital in different timings. Firstly, they were there to visit Xiang Wan’s mom. Secondly, they reported to Bai Muchuan about the progress of their work. Lastly, they wanted to find out more about the changes as well as his transfer.
For them, a transfer of a highly capable superior could be either advantageous or disadvantageous to different people in different aspects—it was a matter of self-interest.
Bai Muchuan did not mention the formation of Serious Crime Division One. He only told them he would be transferred back to the Capital very soon.
However, he also revealed that there should be no change in the organizational structure for Hongjiang District.
It was only human nature that people were afraid or worried about changes.
Upon hearing this, they all calmed down and warmly invited Bai Muchuan for dinner.
Bai Muchuan told them directly he had a tight schedule and could not make it this time for dinner.
Nevertheless, it was not known when he would be able to have dinner with them. Everyone left with a somewhat heavy heart.
It was also that day when Xiang Wan and her Youngest aunt went into the Contact Precautions Room to have a change of clothes as she wanted to see her mom. On the same day, Tang Yuanchu told Bai Muchuan he wanted to transfer with him to the Capital.
Bai Muchuan did not reply to him immediately.
Nevertheless, he said he would seriously consider his request and told him to do his job well.
Tang Yuanchu was so glad he was immediately full of energy and was very helpful to run errands for them.
…
Xiang Wan started to hear gossips when she arrived at the hospital with Bai Muchuan on the next day.
This was because Bai Muchuan had created too much attention. Even though they had not said anything, the staff at the hospital thought there was a VIP staying in the ICU who was on the verge of death and was saved in the nick of time on several occasions.
Xiang Wan, being the only daughter of the supposed VIP, gained a lot of unusual glances from them.
Xiang Wan chose to keep quiet about it.
After preparing all that was needed to be done, both of them entered the ward together.
By this time, Xiang Wan was no longer angry with her Youngest aunt.
When her mom was hospitalized, Youngest aunt was the one who was most worried.
It was true that she was domineering, controlling, and practical. However, when trouble comes knocking, she was also the one who tried her best to help Xiang Wan out… and she could feel that Youngest aunt was sincere about helping her…
As Bai Muchuan had appeared all of a sudden yesterday, Xiang Wan decided to say those words she had not told her Youngest aunt.
“Youngest aunt, thank you so much for helping me.”
Tan Yuechun was surprised when she heard that.
For the past few days, Xiang Wan had said ‘thank you’ many times.
However, in her opinion, none of those words of thanks sounded as sincere as of now.
“I’ve said before.” Youngest aunt looked at Xiang Wan for a few seconds. “I’m just doing what I should. Your mom is my second sister, my dearest sister.”
As she said that, she walked over to Xiang Wan with her usual, confident and elegant posture. She was still her in usual arrogant self, like a peac.o.c.k.
“That young fellow’s not bad, do get along with him. I still need to remind you, though, don’t believe him too easily. It’s always good to understand more about him. You have nothing to lose.” She walked on ahead after saying that.
Xiang Wan smiled as she looked at her Youngest aunt’s back.
“Yes, Youngest aunt.”
Next, she heard her Youngest aunt’s displeased snort.
Youngest aunt had been domineering all her life.
She was not the type of person who would admit defeat easily.
With regards to the matter on Xiang Wan standing by her choice, Youngest aunt must have felt a loss of face. Xiang Wan thought she should make her feel better.
She quickly went up to her Youngest aunt.
“Actually, the fact that I can get myself such a great boyfriend is purely because I have always heeded Youngest aunt’s advice on how to choose a good guy for a boyfriend…”
“Hmph!” Youngest aunt’s expression started to look better. “What are you saying all this for? You should persuade your mom.”
Persuade? Xiang Wan was perplexed. “What do you mean?”
That day, Youngest aunt arrived at the hospital earlier than them.
When Xiang Wan arrived, Youngest aunt had a talk with the doctors on her mom’s condition.
Hence, there were some matters Xiang Wan did not know about.
“In the morning, the professional medical team told me the reason for your mom’s unstable condition is related to her mood…”
“Her mood?”
Can a coma patient also have moods?
Xiang Wan was astonished.
“The professor told me your mom actually knows what is going on—she’s unable to talk and move, but she knows everything…” Youngest aunt puffed a helpless sigh as she looked at her second sister who was lying on the hospital bed, losing weight, and was in deep sleep. “If she’s actually brain conscious, she can feel the pain and the situation she is going through, yet she has no way of controlling her body… she’s so pitiful!”
Youngest aunt could be considered a stone-hearted woman.
However, when she thought of what her sister was going through at the moment, she felt heartbroken and found it difficult to accept what was going on.
Xiang Wan’s eyes turned red instantly.
“She might have realized that she might not survive,” continued Youngest aunt, “not only she had to suffer from all these treatments, but she also knew her condition would surely chalk up a huge sum of medical expenses and is worrying about you. There’s a good chance she did not want to live and her willpower is weak… The professor said her willpower is the greatest support to their treatments. We need to let her feel confident.”
“Yes.”
When she squeezed out that “yes”, Xiang Wan’s voice was already a little hoa.r.s.e.
…
Her mom would not bear to see her suffer.
Xiang Wan’s mom knew she was like a burden to her daughter and might even become a stumbling block to her happiness.
She chose to give up on herself, so her daughter could fly up high to where she wanted.
It was a life, how could one just give up like this?
In this world, only mothers would do that for their children.
Xiang Wan sat beside the hospital bed and could now see various kinds of tubes inserted into her mom’s body. She became stiff and started to quiver as streams of tears flowed out from her eyes. At the same time, she tried her best not to cry with sounds or her mom might feel sad when she heard that…
Youngest aunt squeezed Xiang Wan’s shoulders as though to give her strength. Her eyes were also red.
“Sis, your little girl is here to see you. That young fellow is here, too, he’s just outside.
“You’re right about him, that young fellow’s really not bad. He’s very alert and really good-looking… I’m the one who’s wrong.”
