Chapter 497: Put out the Fire For You
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Ding Yifan was staying in the dormitory next to Bai Muchuan.
Bai Muchuan b.u.t.toned up the last b.u.t.ton of his s.h.i.+rt and was about to get out of the dormitory when Xiang Wan grabbed his arm.
“Don’t!” She stopped him.
When he looked back, his gaze was cold and stern.
Xiang Wan grabbed his sleeve. “If we let others know that I come to your dormitory in the middle of the night to meet you, it will be too embarra.s.sing!”
“Hur!” Bai Muchuan chuckled in amus.e.m.e.nt. “You still know the word ’embarra.s.sing’?”
“No, I mean…” Xiang Wan bit her lower lip, hesitated for a while, and finally glanced at him before bursting into laughter. “I was trying to say… you are the one who will be embarra.s.sed.”
Bai Muchuan was a little stunned. “What do you mean?”
Cough! Cough! Xiang Wan cleared her throat and got up slowly while her lips were almost touching his when she suddenly stopped before drawing closer. “Keeping one’s girlfriend overnight at the dormitory—won’t this be bad for your reputation? Will others criticize you because of this?”
Hmph! Bai Muchuan chose to let out a displeased grunt instead of refuting her. He pulled her hand away and covered her with a blanket.
Her face was so red, she must be having a high fever.
Bai Muchuan did not want to haggle with her anymore.
He strode over and opened the door.
His face immediately sank when he saw two familiar faces lurking outside the door.
“Laowu? Tang Yuanchu? What are you two doing outside my door?”
Cough! Quan Shaoteng stretched himself as if he was exhausted. His eyes were half-closed when he crossed his arms and yawned. “What’s up with you, buddy? I heard some strange noises coming from your dorm in the middle of the night?”
As he said so, he was about to push Bai Muchuan aside, so he could go inside his room.
“You two should go back to sleep!”
Bai Muchuan blocked the entrance. When he noticed that Tang Yuanchu seemed to be trying hard to contain his laughter, he seemed to realize something.
“What are you two doing earlier?”
Quan Shaoteng put on an innocent face. “I’m sleeping of course! What else can I do? I don’t have a girlfriend.”
Bai Muchuan knew Quan Shaoteng very well, so he chose to get information from Tang Yuanchu instead, putting on a grim expression while staring at him.
“What about you?”
Tang Yuanchu spoke piteously, “Boss, I don’t have a girlfriend either!”
“I’m not asking you about this!” Bai Muchuan’s face was so gloomy that they could use it as an ink source. “How did Xiang Wan enter my dorm? Are you the one who helped her?”
Bai Muchuan was not the only one who held the key to his dormitory.
This was because the designated janitors need to clean up the dormitories, so there would be a spare key for all dormitories kept at the office as well.
“Not me…”
Tang Yuanchu immediately declared his innocence.
He stole a quick peek at Quan Shaoteng and let out a yawn lazily.
“I went to bed very early, but Captain Quan woke me up earlier…”
“Me?” Quan Shaoteng pointed at his own nose. “Tang Yuanchu, don’t spout nonsense! I’m not interested in you at all. Why would I wake you up in the middle of the night?”
“Yeah, why? Why did you wake me up in the middle of the night?”
“Did you think that having your head above your neck, is kinda taking up too much s.p.a.ce?”
“… No, Captain Quan! You’ll get wrinkles on your handsome face if you flare up!”
“Shut up!” Bai Muchuan took a puff of breath and looked up at the ceiling. “Talk! Who came up with this bad idea?”
“…”
“…”
Quan Shaoteng and Tang Yuanchu looked at each other but did not say a word.
Bai Muchuan looked at the one on his left, then the one on his right with an expression that seemed to be telling them that he was almost angered to death.
Unexpectedly, he heard a voice coming from behind.
“It’s my idea!” she said coolly.
“…”
Xiang Wan was now behind him.
She looked at him innocently with her delicate appearance.
Bai Muchuan furrowed his eyebrows. “Why are you here? Get inside!”
Xiang Wan flapped her collar. “I feel stuffy, so I came out for some air…”
When Bai Muchuan looked at her delicate fair skin which was still having a reddish hue; his gaze then dimmed for a moment. He took a step further to block the two men from looking at her, then pointed at Tang Yuanchu. “Go now! Get a doctor here.”
“Why the need to get a doctor?” Tang Yuanchu was perplexed.
“Xiang Wan’s running a fever.” Bai Muchuan sent him a glare. “Can’t you tell?”
“Is she?” Quan Shaoteng chimed in and tried to look toward Xiang Wan by tilting his head. “Tch, tch! Little Wanwan, how pitiful are you? You’re having a fever?”
“I’m not having a fever,” responded Xiang Wan, ignoring the fact that Bai Muchuan was standing in the middle, blocking her view. She tilted her head to look at Quan Shaoteng. “Captain Quan, Little Tang, thank you for the help tonight. It’s late, so go to bed early! I’m really alright!”
Quan Shaoteng looked at her silently. “…”
Tang Yuanchu did the same. “…”
She totally sold the two of them out.
Although the couple before them was at odds with each other, well, both of them were still on the same side after all!
Quan Shaoteng and Tang Yuanchu exchanged glances for a moment and harrumphed at the same time.
“I feel tired! Yaawwnn…”
Bai Muchuan turned to look at Xiang Wan, who was calm and completely at ease. “Who can tell me?” he sounded serious. “What exactly happened?”
“Oh, it’s nothing,” replied Xiang Wan casually, “before I come over to your dorm, I was waiting in Captain Quan’s dorm since the weather was too cold… so I stayed in the dorm for more than an hour together and got baked by his heater that had an unusually high temperature. I was so hot and perspiring profusely in there.”
“…”
Bai Muchuan took a deep breath.
This woman!
This woman!!
He turned and saw that both Quan Shaoteng and Tang Yuanchu were still there while looking ambiguously at them and pointed at the two.
“You two…” He gritted his teeth.
“Oh no, oh no, I need to go back to sleep. I can’t afford to forgo sleep for the sake of my out-of-the-world good looks!” Quan Shaoteng interrupted him, gave another yawn, and walked away. “Goodnight, Little Bai!”
“Boss, goodnight!”
Tang Yuanchu waved at them and wanted to leave as well.
“Tang Yuanchu!” Bai Muchuan was fuming with anger and wanted to lash out at him. Tang Yuanchu immediately turned around with a “hush” gesture. “Boss,” he spoke softly, “you might wake up all our brothers here…”
Which was better? Having two people see you or having a group of people instead? he seemed to be telling him that.
“!” Bai Muchuan puffed a sigh and growled in a low tone. “Scram!”
“… Boss, Sis-in-law, sweet dreams tonight!”
Tang Yuanchu left happily.
Bai Muchuan suddenly turned to look at Xiang Wan.
“…”
Uh oh!
Xiang Wan felt her eyebrows twitch. She felt that Bai Muchuan’s gaze seemed unfriendly.
“Be reasonable!” she took a step back. “I’ve been saying that I’m not sick, right?”
Thud! Bai Muchuan closed the door and walked towards her. There was no expression on his face. “Yeah.”
Xiang Wan took another step back. “When you asked me why my face was so red, I told you it’s because of the fire, right?”
“Yeah, right?” Bai Muchuan still ambled towards her.
“So, is it true that you took a cold water bath for an hour?”
Well, well, well…
“Of course it’s true! You know about my const.i.tution. It’s too good!”
“Mm,” said Bai Muchuan who sized her up, “it does look good!”
Uh oh…
Why did she have a feeling that a wolf was telling her, “Does this sheep look delicious?”
Whenever he took a step toward her, Xiang Wan took another step back!
He was not as angry at her as he had been earlier. As he drew closer, his expression was so calm that it creeps her out. This was because it felt similar to the calm before the storm. Like the dark and brooding weather, his dark eyes were flas.h.i.+ng with a dangerous glint.
“Bai Muchuan, I didn’t deceive you. What are you trying to do?”
“Putting out the fire for you!”
