Chapter 522: His Doting Mode
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
As Quan Shaoteng was exasperated, he felt that he needed to do something.
He took out his mobile phone and sent a message to the Gossip group chat.
“Bring it on!”
Nonetheless, Mei Xin didn’t respond to that at all.
Or rather, she didn’t even notice what he had said.
This Medical Examiner must have a problem inside her brain! he thought.
Or maybe the problem lies with her eyes instead?
Or did something happen and caused a deviation in her sense of beauty and taste?
Quan Shaoteng propped his forehead with a hand as the more he thought about it, the more he believed that that must have been the case. As he left the conference room and went upstairs to his dorm for a rest, he was looking at his phone over and over again. He almost fell from the stairs when he accidentally kicked a step.
Fortunately, n.o.body saw that.
Otherwise, his image would be ruined!
However, as he waited, he never saw a reply from Mei Xin.
She ignored him!
Quan Shaoteng was so frustrated that he felt like going to the Forensics Team and pull her out for a good talk. He wanted to know why she looked down on him, and gouge out whichever eye that looked down on him. Well, scalpels were readily available at the Forensics Team…
Ding! As he thought about that, he heard a notification from the Gossip group chat.
Quan Shaoteng quickly swiped his phone.
It was Salimu. He asked meekly, “Captain Quan, did you enter the wrong channel or something?”
Quan Shaoteng replied, “What do you mean?”
Salimu explained, “Did you send the message to the wrong chat?”
Quan Shaoteng retorted, “Which eye of yours saw that I sent the message to the wrong chat?”
Salimu was baffled. “So you… wanted to find people to play a game of mahjong?”
Quan Shaoteng got agitated. “I wanted to hit someone!”
Salimu paused for a while before replying. “With all due respect, Captain Quan, I think that… you might need to go to make a trip to the Forensics Team for a drug test.”
When Salimu sent the message, he had also pinged Mei Xin and Cheng Zheng.
“Seems like Captain Quan’s not himself, everyone please show more concern. I’m worried that he might have taken the wrong medicine!”
Quan Shaoteng was peeved. “Salimu! Are you itching to get beaten up?”
Salimu quickly replied, “I didn’t! I’m worried that you’re the one who’s itching…”
Quan Shaoteng took a look and flung his phone on his bed. He also fell on his bed, still feeling frustrated.
It was all quiet inside the group chat.
Mei Xin never responded whereas Cheng Zheng made a rather serious reply.
“Afternoon two to three o’clock, you can come if you’re free.”
D*rn!
This fellow actually joined in to make fun of me!
Quan Shaoteng did not talk in the group chat but he made a trip to Salimu’s office to deliver a vexed fist at the small framed Salimu on the chest.
…
At the hospital.
The sun showed up that day after the snow. Under the warm sun, it was bustling and busy. At the hospital, medical staff donned in white coats or uniforms were a common sight.
Bai Muchuan brought Xiang Wan and Tang Yuanchu to the hospital. They met up with the fake Xuan Yue’s attending doctor to discuss her condition. The doctor’s reply was similar to what Tang Yuanchu had reported earlier.
So far, she showed no signs of awakening.
Therefore, extracting useful information from her was not an option for now.
Tang Yuanchu went to talk to the two police officers who were guarding the fake Xuan Yue at the hospital. Bai Muchuan and Xiang Wan sat on the lounge chairs outside the ward, looking at the sunlight that shone through the thick gla.s.s windows. Xiang Wan’s thoughts wandered off for a moment before asking Bai Muchuan a question. “Do you think our plan will work?”
That we’ll beat them at their own game by setting up a trap? he thought.
Bai Muchuan’s eyes were s.h.i.+ning brightly but his tone was low and serious. “That would depend on how important she is to Dark Clan.”
Xiang Wan pursed her lips in thought. “You’re right. But we’ve spent so much effort and it was not easy to catch her. Now that she’s in the hospital, we must make the most of her.”
Hur! Bai Muchuan chuckled and held her hand.
“Make the most of her. Little Xiang Wan, you make me see you in a different light.”
Xiang Wan looked at his smiling face. For a moment, she could not determine he had meant it as positive or negative.
She directly asked, “Do you think I’m bad?”
Bai Muchuan: “You’re bad!”
Xiang Wan’s gaze became a little serious. “So?”
Bai Muchuan pinched her nose. “I like it when you’re bad!”
Xiang Wan: “…”
What did he mean?
When Bai Muchuan saw that her eyes showed doubt and uncertainty, he let out a sigh. “In the past when I got to know you, I thought you’re just a little white rabbit…”
A white rabbit?
That made Xiang Wan’s eyebrows pucker up into a frown. “Besides being fairer than most, I don’t think I’m anything like a rabbit?”
Bai Muchuan’s face went stiff for a moment before bursting into laughter. “You little shameless one, did you get possessed by Laowu or something?”
“Of course not? Do you mean I’m not fair?”
“… Fair, very fair.” Bai Muchuan quickly glanced at the surroundings and didn’t see anyone. He pulled her closer and planted a kiss on her forehead. “You’re so fair that I almost went blind!”
“Orh.”
Xiang Wan lifted her head, her eyes clear like the mirror, reflecting Bai Muchuan’s handsome, smiling face.
“You haven’t finished the earlier topic, don’t try to gloss over it.”
“What?” Bai Muchuan felt a little amused.
“So I’m like a little white rabbit in the past, huh? What am I like now? An old hen?”
Pfffft! Bai Muchuan tried to hold his laughter, his chest was heaving up and down.
If this was not the hospital, he really would burst into a guffaw by just looking at her supposedly serious expression.
“Little Xiang Wan ah…” Bai Muchuan chuckled again.
He was unable to describe what she was like now. But he knew that whenever he saw her and talked to each other or even if they didn’t do anything, he just felt at ease. He finally felt that he had something to rely on in his life and his future. It was a warm feeling; it was happiness.
That could probably be the emotions that a good woman would bring to a man?
“Tell me!” Xiang Wan felt her face slightly burning as he gazed at her. She poked him using her elbow. “It’s annoying when you don’t finish saying your words.”
“But I did.” Bai Muchuan teased her. He loved to watch her getting irritated but yet not knowing what to do with him. “When I said ‘Little Xiang Wan ah’, that’s a complete sentence.”
“…” Xiang Wan was speechless.
Bai Muchuan looked at her for a moment with a grin on his face. He suddenly lifted his hand and ruffled her hair.
“Little Xiang Wan ah, you tend to overthink too much and doubt too much…”
“Oh really?” Xiang Wan raised her eyebrows with interest as a naughty glint flashed past her eyes. “Let me ask you then, do you prefer the white rabbit then or the current old hen?”
“…”
Bai Muchuan gave a frown and looked at her seriously.
“What nonsense is that? There isn’t any old hen that’s so good-looking as you!”
He had said that very solemnly that Xiang Wan couldn’t resist laughing. But she quickly controlled her laughter and showed a serious expression.
“If it’s not an old hen, then what it is? Sir Little Bai, can’t you finish saying what you want in one go without taking a breath?” She let out a snort and continued, “If you always pause when talking, aren’t you worried that I might suspect… that your kidneys are in trouble.”
Bai Muchuan directly replied, “You’re getting craftier!”
He was obviously making a negative remark yet his tone sounded so doting. When he used his alluring voice to say that, it was full of tenderness. “You’re not an old hen, you’re a phoenix!”
Phoenix?
Xiang Wan was dazed for a moment.
She looked at Bai Muchuan without batting an eyelid.
Bai Muchuan was also looking at her and nodded his head affirmatively.
“Hah!” Xiang Wan waved her hands and laughed. “No, no! I’ll feel embarra.s.sed when you compliment me like that. I don’t think I’m a phoenix… At most, I’m a white swan that flies from a flock of chickens!”
Xiang Wan even pursed her lips seriously as she confirmed her thoughts.
“Mm, so if you want to compliment me in the future, please follow the the format that I’ve just said!”
