She was about to call again when a maid noticed that she was still around and ushered her out of the bedroom to get her away from Qiu Ran.

Lu Zhaoyang did not want to leave before things were settled. She continued reaching out to Huo Yunting outside the bedroom.

She would never forgive herself if her visit caused Qiu Ran to relapse.

She paced up and down outside the bedroom, feeling anxious but also helpless.

After a while, the door opened and the psychiatrist came out.

“Miss, I have calmed her down. She needs rest and cannot undergo any more stress. Please go home.”

Lu Zhaoyang shook her head. “I’m staying here, but I will make sure she does not see me.”

“You can’t do anything by staying here. Your presence will only make things worse for her!”

“Let me stay a while more until I can reach Mr Huo.”

The doctor could see that she was stubborn and did not insist further. He returned to his own place.

Lu Zhaoyang continued calling Huo Yunting, but he did not respond.

She stared at the bedroom and finally put down her phone. It was then that she noticed the pain on her elbow again. She scored a wound on her elbow and it was bleeding.

It was a long time before it became quiet in the bedroom. She finally felt relieved and took her leave.

It took her almost half an hour to reach her car as she hesitated on her decision to leave.

On the way back, she silently blamed herself for telling Qiu Ran the truth, for revealing so much…

Three hours later, the maid in the bedroom watched Qiu Ran sitting up in bed, lying against the headboard. Her face was pale and her eyes stared blankly into s.p.a.ce. Nevertheless, the maid felt relieved to see her calm.

“Ma’am, let me get you dinner downstairs.”

Qiu Ran did not reply. She looked down at her palms with quiet detachment.

The maid left the room and went to ask her colleague to take her place beside Qiu Ran.

The room became dead silent. Memories of the past came back to Qiu Ran in flashes.
