Wen He frowned in great worry, “Well, the medical system now is great. As long as the rescue team came in time, we will last.”

“Mhm…” Muttered Gu Jinzhi.

Wen He recalled the scene just now as she remorsefully sighed, “You shouldn’t have held me back then.”

If it wasn’t me, Gu Jinzhi would have stayed in his seat and not be thrown through the window when he tried grabbing me.

Gu Jinzhi sighed, “Can you even read the situation?”

“I’m just worried about you.”

The remark left him in silence for a few seconds before he continued, “I’m fine. Just—Just that I felt a bit constrained here.”

The two of them went into complete silence. The place was dark and the ambience was unnervingly haunting as the sound of rain dripping echoed in the tiny s.p.a.ce trapping them.

The sound of rainfall caught Wen He’s attention, “Is it raining out there? If this rain continues and causes another landslide, I don’t think we will survive…”

“Nope.” Gu Jinzhi cleared his throat and tried to stay calm in his severe pain. His voice though was even hoa.r.s.er than before, “It’s just drizzles. Don’t worry.”

Wen He felt like he was coughing rather than clearing his throat because of his lungs however. Gu Jinzhi suffered from a chronic disease that needed him to take all sorts of medications daily to keep his lungs working. She might survive being stuck in a crushed vehicle for a few days but what about Gu Jinzhi?

Would it be possible for Gu Jinzhi to live till backup arrived?

“Gu Jinzhi…” It was a heart-wrenching thought as Wen He mumbled, “You’ll live, right?”

Gu Jinzhi took a moment to comprehend the question. He snorted, he laughed, “Of course, as I said before, the smart people always last. You should worry about yourself. People with your IQ usually die first in a horror movie.”

Wen He rolled her eyes, “Gu Jinzhi, how long do you think Huo Chen will take to find us?”

We don’t have our communicator anymore. And I’m not sure if people could find us when we are stuck between mud and rocks—The 20-men team we have should be able to get to us—considering how near they are. They did promise to come back for us after the war ended. And I know, Huo Chen will win.

“A few hours—if they are fast.” The answer rekindled the hope in her, only to be ruthlessly extinguished later as Gu Jinzhi added, “A couple of days, if they can’t make it fast.”

A couple of days? Just to see our bodies rotten in the car by then?

Wen He had tears in her eyes as her body s.h.i.+vered in the dark. The unknown to fear, the possibility of leaving the world anytime in the darkness, the hopelessness of never being found as these thoughts slowly ate away her tenacity.

“Gu Jinzhi, say—if I died here, will Huo Chen be sad when he saw my body?”

“Why would he?”

Gu Jinzhi replied, “Tsk, silly girl. There are three common wishes among men, one is to get a raise or promotion, another is to have their wife dead. And likely Huo Chen will get promoted this time, with that, he’ll get a raise. Once you are dead, his life is fulfilled, anyhow.”

If you aren’t stuck between the truck window, I would have broken off the steering just to knock the heck out of you!

Wen He was so furious that she was panting but Gu Jinzhi was rather relaxed that he decided to initiate a conversation himself.
