Arriving at the entrance of Straight Guy’s community, the car was too big to maneuver in. Straight Guy brightly said, “Don’t bother to drive in, I can run from here. Thank you! Uppercla.s.sman.”

The Gla.s.ses-guy frowned, “Driving you home is to prevent you from getting wet. If you run back home, what’s the point of driving you all the way from the library?.”

Facing the legendary uppercla.s.sman, Straight Guy felt awkward instantly and said incoherently because of nervousness, “Um. Then I… Can you send me back then?”

The Gla.s.ses-guy smiled.

He pulled over the car and took out an umbrella, walking out from the car and asking Straight Guy, “Off we go. Which building do you live in?”

[63]

At dinner, out of concern, The Straight’s mother asked causally, “Who is the guy drives you home today? He looks so handsome.”

Considering his roommates’ relations.h.i.+p, Straight Guy got nervous from head to toe, fearing that his mother might misunderstand them.”

“He is Zhou Ming’s uppercla.s.sman. He’s got nothing to do with me. I don’t even know him well. He gave a lift home merely because of the rain. Ma, it’s so not cool that you are overthinking about us.”

The Straight’s mother was like, “??? Son, I’m not thinking about anything.”

[64]

The next day, they still met at Library. Carrying a bag, Straight Guy arrived early but he did not see his roommates, only the Gla.s.ses-guy who was waiting for them. Due to mom’s inquiry last night, Straight Guy intentionally avoided him by taking the diagonal seat.

The Gla.s.ses-guy lifted his eyelids slightly and shot a look at Straight Guy, and he said nothing. They read books, as if nothing had happened.

Holding his sweetheart’s hand, Domineering Guy came and frowned upon the seat arrangement, simply because he and Coquettish Guy were left to sit in the diagonal seats as well for a desk of four like this. No way could he hold his sweetheart’s hand from time to time, “Zhou, tidy up your things. Go over there.”

Straight Guy was about to say something but stopped on a second thought. He intended to seek help from Coquettish Guy. However, Coquettish Guy was busy looking at his hand which was held tightly by Domineering Guy.

Straight Guy, “Ok.” Taking the backpack, he helplessly sat beside The Gla.s.ses-guy

[65]

When Straight Guy came home, his mother said that she had registered a driving course for him. It was said that for anyone who didn’t ride the tide and get his driving license in the senior vacation, he would regret about it for the rest of his life until the day he got it.

However, as long as Straight Guy thought of getting up early in summer vacation and practicing driving under the scorching sun, he felt overwhelmed.

What distressed him most was that he, a straight and manful boy, had no talent for driving. The instructor taught him to turn the steering wheel. He was so nervous that he unleashed his Force and broke the outworn steering wheel.

The two roommates burst out laughing without mercy on hearing the episode .

The next day, Straight Guy was still distressed from the driving course when he was atThe Gla.s.ses-guy’s cla.s.s. The Gla.s.ses-guy, “You haven’t rested well, have you? Take it easy. You can take my lesson as an interest.”

Straight Guy felt he dragged the process, embarra.s.sed and speechless he went. The Gla.s.ses-guy smiled and asked, “What’s wrong? You are behaving like a little girl.”

Domineering Guy was still amused by Straight Guy’s suffering, “Uppercla.s.sman, have you ever see a little girl who breaks the steering wheel?”

Straight Guy blushed immediately. The Gla.s.ses-guy was confused, “What?”

[66]

The Gla.s.ses-guy recalled that day later on, he thought maybe it was the embarra.s.sment flashed across Straight Guy’s face has touched the soft part of his heart. Not everyone could face things confidently right from the beginning. Composure derived from hard work where it couldn’t be seen as well. Therefore, looking at the red-faced boy, The Gla.s.ses-guy invited him causally and earnestly, “From now on, you can bone up driving with me. After dinner, I have some time. I’ll instruct you.”

“Wouldn’t that be bothering you too much?” Straight Guy felt refusing his legendary uppercla.s.sman was inappropriate yet bothering him was still wrong.

“That’s ok.” The Gla.s.ses-guy replied in a bright and firm voice, which rea.s.sured Straight Guy. He said, “I don’t find that any troublesome. Plus I have a high-qualified steering wheel.

[67]

There was no practice yard but in the driving school, therefore, The Gla.s.ses-guy decided to practice on the isolated suburban road where Straight Guy could drive at a low risk.

“What if I break the car?”

“You are a green hand. I’m an old hand. It would be my fault shall anything happened…”

Straight Guy swallowed his saliva, “But, I’ll behave poorly….”

“If you behave well, there is no need to practice. Take it easy. It’s an empty road. I bought insurances for both the car and myself. Don’t be afraid.”

Straight Guy paused. The Gla.s.ses-guy, “What’s the problem?”

Straight Guy replied nervously, “Wait. Wait. Let me check with my mom whether she bought insurance for me.”

Finally, The Gla.s.ses-guy couldn’t stop but laughing.

[68]

The truth was that all the unsureness arose from fear for the unknown. If a person went ahead regardless, he would find the problem was not as horrible as he thought.

Straight Guy began in the lowest speed. After practicing a few laps, he got the confidence back a little. This road was a nice place for practicing driving due to how quiet it got in the evening. In the last few laps, he got better and better. As a young boy, given this kind of success, his excitement was hard to hide, “Uppercla.s.sman, I’m driving at 50k now, is it fast?”

The Gla.s.ses-guy smiled and nodded with kindness.

[69]

As usual, in the daytime Straight Guy went to legendary uppercla.s.sman’s coding courses with his roommates when he wasn’t scheduled for driving school. He was just absent briefly but he felt he was way left behind compared to Domineering Guy.

Domineering Guy even studied harder than the senior year of high school. Straight Guy guessed Domineering Guy must have been burning the midnight oil to study. He sighed and he knew the Boss craved to master skills, ideally, his skills would be great enough to support him to start up his own business just like the legendary uppercla.s.sman. Therefore, he would be equipped with what it takes to be with Chen even if his parents oppose them.

When Domineering Guy and Coquettish Guy went to the bathroom, Straight Guy asked The Gla.s.ses-guy secretly, “Uppercla.s.sman, have you known Zhou Ming for a long time? Why do you teach us?”

“You said Zhou Ming? He sent private messages to me at school BBS.” The Gla.s.ses-guy said this with a mild face, obviously he liked the three boys. “This friend of yours has designed some creative programs which bugged by common mistakes though. We kept in touch for a while, he said that barring accidents, you guys would be alumnis with me and he also wanted to start business with me. I think he is a promising person. I happen to have this long break, therefore, I’m here to teach you guys in my spare time, especially Zhou Ming.”

Hearing that, Straight Guy went silence for a while, sighed with emotion, “Boss really works hard.”

The Gla.s.ses-guy looked at him, “Everyone must pay efforts for his choice. I also want to ask you a question.”

 “What?”

“After knowing their relations.h.i.+p, did you persuade them to part with each other?”

Straight Guy recalled, “Let me think…No.”

“Why?” The Gla.s.ses-guy tilted his head slightly and felt interested to find the answer.

“Emmm. They are just good. I mean Chen is a nice person. So is Boss. They have a good relations.h.i.+p. Why do I persuade them to separate?”
