Chapter 12: Rose's Nightmare and the New Case
In the Hospital
Amidst the gazes of tens of people, Rose pushed the door handle down and forced open the door. Then she entered the room.
She saw a boy sitting in bed and walked towards him. The boy was looking in her direction.
She smiled as she found the boy staring at her body.
There was no anger in her eyes since she noticed there was no l.u.s.t in his eyes but only appreciation. She seemed to understand that it was normal for a boy of his age.
However, a moment later, she frowned as she noticed he was still staring at her. 'How much longer is he going to stare at me?'
She felt his gaze on her b.r.e.a.s.t.s; then his gaze seemed to touch her hips and then caressed her legs.
'This shameless b.a.s.t.a.r.d! I came here to cure your trauma and even rented this nurse uniform to make you feel at ease when speaking with me. However, who knew? I was helping an immoral.'
Her eyebrows squeezed together to form a crease, and her eyelids were tight and straight. Clearly, she was angry.
Even if his stare was devoid of any l.u.s.t and desire, the boy's gaze still made her had an uncomfortable and unpleasant feeling.
'Hmph! All men are the same whether they are boys or grown-ups. Look at this brazen boy; he is still ogling at me with his filthy eyes.'
Anger kept bubbling up inside her. Her eyes seemed to be shooting flames.
'This scoundrel needs to be punished; otherwise, he will stare at every beautiful girl he comes across.'
The boy's gaze seemed to change a little. His previous empty gaze now filled with curiosity. Rose also felt this change. However, she didn't read too much meaning into it as she had already labeled him a scoundrel.
Rose's eyebrows eased a little, and there appeared a sweet, slight smile on her face. However, her anger by no means diminished.
'As I am the most beautiful girl in this place, I shall happily take this heavy responsibility to punish this rascal. I will make sure to teach him a good lesson.'
She walked closer to him, and the small smile stretched a bit. 'I will show you a nightmare now.'
'[Nightmare]' She said in her mind as she stopped her steps.
Formless energy gushed out of her body and then wrapped around the boy's whole body.
The boy froze like a statue. He wasn't moving at all.
His eyes were listless, and his eyebrows stopped twitching.
His face looked empty, not capable of showing any expressions.
After a second, his eyes started to close slowly.
After that, his body fell back on the bed as the boy lost his consciousness.
Looking at the boy's state, Rose smiled, and her anger seemed to have vanished.
She seemed to be able to see what was going on in the boy's mind. Witnessing something, She shook her head, and a sad look appeared on her face.
"Always remember to behave in the future," Rose said while looking at the boy. She turned and left the room.
As soon as she came out of the room, tens of gazes from people in the corridor fell on her body.
Seeing that she came out of the room, a man in a police uniform saluted her. Rose nodded in reply.
More than half of the gazes seemed to have turned away.
Disregarding the gazes of the few people, she then walked towards the dressing room of the hospital.
On the way, she thought. 'That boy turned out to be gross from birth. He was staring at that girl on the train, and that seemed to have triggered her. I was feeling guilty because I thought I gave him a hard punishment. But now, I am feeling angry because I didn't give him enough punishment. I shouldn't have cured his trauma too. At least, I confirmed that he was not related to that girl and he was telling the truth.'
If that boy were to know her thoughts, then he would have shouted, "The f.u.c.k! I am not gross. I was not staring at you or at that girl on the train, but was looking at both of your information.'
"Fufu!" Seeing there was no one in the outer corridor, Rose giggled out loud. Her mouth stretched, and a bigger smile appeared on her face.
'The first task to cure his trauma completed and the second task to uncover the truth also completed. Thus, my first official mission is completed. YAY!'
Meanwhile at the Detective Agency…
Right after entering the door, one could see a big and wide hall- Reception room. Besides the door was a medium sized reception desk, and behind that desk was a big window. The two rooms- Kitchen and Members were front facing the Reception room. The kitchen was on the left while the Members room was beside the kitchen. The Office room was on the right side of the Reception room.
Knock! Knock!
"What is it?" Hearing the knock on the door, Leon asked. He seemed to know who was knocking at the door.
"There's a customer." A woman's voice came. The voice contained a bit of excitement.
"I will be there shortly, Linda," Leon said indifferently, but the big smile on his face betrayed his real emotions. 'Finally, a customer. I hope it's not about those missing cat and dogs.'
Leaving the Office room, Leon walked towards the Reception room.
He saw an old man around 55 years old sitting on a purple sofa from the side. His hair and beard had some white hairs. Wrinkles were somewhat visible in his face; however, it didn't look like it was from the age, but rather from some worry.
He also noticed the left leg of the old man was shaking. It looked like an unconscious action. Clearly, some matter troubled the old man greatly which caused him to fidget.
Leon frowned as he noticed those subtle clues and actions.
'Something seems to be greatly troubling the old man. From the clues, the chances of this case being about missing cat and dogs are minimum. Finally, some real case!'
With relief, Leon frowned loosened, and unknowingly a small appeared in his face. He walked closer to the man.
The man sitting on the sofa noticed Leon. He looked at Leon only for a second before he looked away.
Leon's smile disappeared as he noticed the look of insignificance in the man's eyes when the man looked at him.
It would have been difficult for a normal person to detect that look; however, Leon was no ordinary person, and this caused him to be more sensitive to the emotions of people.
Just then the receptionist, Linda sitting at the reception desk noticed Leon. She was five years older than Rose. She was quite pretty and also very friendly.
Linda stood up and with a sweet smile, said, "Captain Leon, you came. This is Mr. Howell."
She then turned towards the man's direction and continued, ".. and Mr. Howell, this is Captain Leon, the head of this agency whom you requested to meet."
Leon nodded towards Linda.
Understanding his gesture, Linda then went to another room.
Leon turned towards Mr. Howell said, "h.e.l.lo, Mr. Howell."
However, Mr.Howell didn't reply or said anything.
Seeing the man showed no response, a thought arose inside his mind. 'A rude customer?'
Then the man's clothes attracted his eyes.
'No, that's not it.'
Leon spotted a small leaf in golden color imprinted at both the edges of man's sleeves.
'A leaf brand! Those brand clothes have a sky-reaching price. Even a simple handkerchief made by them costs a million Robi. That means this man is from Upper-cla.s.s.
Upper-cla.s.s c.u.m rude customer. I can see this case being difficult and tiresome already,' Leon concluded in his mind.
'Then he must be from Royal city. Ah! I hate to deal with those arrogant b.a.s.t.a.r.ds from Royal city. They all think they are superior and don't put anyone in their eyes.'
Leon's heart filled with dissatisfaction upon finding that the man was from the Royal city. Even so, he dared not to show his displeasure in his face.
'Wait! Something's wrong.' Leon noticed that the man was looking at Linda's seat in a trance. He noticed there was a deep resentment in his eyes.
'Don't tell me Linda did something to offend this guy.' Leon thought, but soon he rejected his guess. 'No! That can't be. Linda is a nice girl… But why is this man looking at her seat with such an intense gaze like she robbed all his money? Anyway, I will ask Linda later about this.'
All these observations took less than a second for Leon.
"Cough!" Leon coughed which woke up Mr.Howell from the trance. He looked at Leon in confusion.
"Mr.Howell, you requested to meet me," Leon said. He unwillingly set his tone to the polite 'setting.'
Mr.Howell nodded, not bothering to say anything.
'b.a.s.t.a.r.d! If you find saying h.e.l.lo to me lowering your status then why the h.e.l.l did you even come here?'
Anger bubbled up inside Leon, but he dared not to say something rude to this uppercla.s.smen. Leon knew the consequences of offending upper-cla.s.s families from the Royal city.
In the past, Leon's father had offended such a person, and then a series of misfortune started. He lost his home as his home turned out to be "illegally" constructed. Then his agency license was terminated and went to jail because someone guy reported him a fraud.
Leon even now could remember those days clearly as it happened yesterday. He couldn't forget the sad and helpless faces of his parents as they survived those days.
With a heavy heart, Leon sat down on another purple sofa facing the man. Unwilling for any round talk, he decided to go straight to the point.
But before Leon could say anything, Mr.Howell interjected him. His voice was cold and commanding.
"I want you to find my daughter. Here's her photo."
Mr.Howell said while stretching his hands forward. A hologram appeared over his palm, and it showed a picture of a beautiful girl in her late twenties.
Looking at the girl's image, Leon wanted to ask some questions; however, he didn't get any chance.
"I want you to find her within a week."
Before he could say anything, he heard that cold and plain voice of Mr.Howell.
It looked like Mr.Howell was not giving any chance for him to speak.
Mr.Howell's att.i.tude told Leon that he was the master while Leon was a servant, not qualified to speak in front of him.
His hands clenched into fists as Leon's desire to punch the man sitting in front of him reached the peak. However, painful memories flashed in front of his eyes again. Unwillingly, he freed his fists.
Suppressing his frustration, Leon again opened his mouth to say something, however, only his mouth opened and no words came as he was still for the third time was interjected by Mr.Howell.
"You don't need to worry about the money. Here's a million Robi and after you find my daughter, you will get ten times that amount."
"But, Mr.Howell!" Finally getting a chance to speak, Leon said as he unconsciously raised his voice, "I think the police are better suited to handle this case-"
"The kidnappers threatened and warned me not to contact the police.." Mr.Howell quickly interrupted him and added in an arrogant and condescending tone. "..Otherwise, they would hurt her. They also mentioned that they have their people in the department so if I tried to communicate secretly with the police, they would know."
'There's something wrong with the situation. His daughter has been kidnapped, but instead of being worried, he is angry. I could feel the resentment growing in his eyes and voice when he mentioned his daughter.
Besides even if he can't go to the police, with the power he has he can easily and quickly get any information easier than us and also there are countless better agencies better than us. This whole situation is fishy…
I don't think I should accept this case. I also don't want to get involved with the people from the Royal city. They are troublesome, and I loathe their att.i.tudes. Yes, I should decline his..'
With many thoughts running through his mind, Leon said, "We haven't taken any case related to kidnapping before. I am worried we could make some mistakes, which might harm your daughter's life."
While speaking, Leon pretended to be sad as he politely declined.
"I had done some research before I came here. Your agency has found many missing dogs and cats in a short amount of time. I think you are the most suitable for this job." Mr.Howell stated indifferently.
"But this is different. The one I need to search for is not an animal, but your daughter and she had been kidnapped, not lost. I think you should consult other agencies. They are way better than us." Leon said as he emphasized each word slowly.
"Fine. 10 million Robi.."
"I am sorry but.."
"100.."
"This is not about the money.." Leon was at a loss for words.
"Leon? Right. Why do you think I came here- to this rundown and disgusting place? To hear you say No to me? I am willing to give you a chance. Prove your worth to me, and your future will be bright. I want to hear you say yes and take this money. After you find my daughter, I will give you ten times that amount and elevate the status of this… this agency."
"Mr. Howell, let me be honest. I don't want to take your case as I currently have another case."
Saying those words in a cold tone, Leon stood up and left the Reception room.
Leon knew if he stayed behind any longer, then Mr. Howell would preach on how rich he was. Thus, Leon quickly left.
Mr.Howell was in disbelief. He was surprised by the actions of Leon.
It never came to him that a commoner could refuse his "order."
It took a while before he came to realize the situation; however, it was too late as he was the only one remaining in the hall.
Anger rose inside him; however, his daughter's picture came before his eyes.
Mr.Howell gritted his teeth and suppressed his anger. He didn't say anything then got up and left.
His silence was horrifying as if it were the calm before the storm.
