Chapter 8: The Author and awaited Revenge

"You are blind."

Even with all the screaming of Carter, the man, after a long time, answered with only three words.

Carter really couldn't understand this man. That man's action was equally perplexing. 'Who is he? He acts like he knows everything, yet at the same time, seems like he doesn't know anything.'

Looking at the calm, relax and pleasant voice, Carter's rage went all the way down. Carter wanted to punch this man but couldn't bring himself to it.

Imagine, two persons, talking. One gets angry all of a sudden. That angry person curses another person and his whole generation, but the other person speaks with politeness showing a gentle smile. Then how would the angry person feel? The anger he built will now crumble down. The same situation was that of Carter.

Carter, helplessly, relaxed and sat down.

Carter was now sure that this powerful and mysterious man was not one of those higher beings.

Those beings considered themselves as superior to human. They treat humans as roaches. They think that looking at humans will disgust their eyes. As for talking! Does human bother to talk to bugs? The same condition applied to those beings.

So this man who was "talking" with him (Carter) definitely can't be those beings.

At first, Carter didn't overthink about the whole situation as for why would dead man care. Then after, knowing he was not dead, the man asked him questions which filled countless thoughts in his mind, making it not possible to think clearly of the situation. Next moment, rage build up, so there was no chance to a.n.a.lyze the circ.u.mstances correctly.

But now, Carter could a.n.a.lyze the situation properly. He could "see" the man, sitting opposite to him, was powerful.

Carter calmly looked around once more. 'This looks like a separate s.p.a.ce. To create such a folded s.p.a.ce, he must have reached the legend stage. I have only heard of that stage. It was said that they were the only one who could challenge other races one on one and also could emerge victoriously.'

Remembering the past, complicated thoughts started running in his mind, 'While legends were few in numbers, they were one of the reasons which ignited the flames of hope in those dark times.'

'Maybe this man is also one of them who, to the last, fought for us.'

"Don't give up yet, Son! We've made it so far! Just a few distances away and then we can survive."

"Brother Carter, don't give up yet. You have made it so far! Just train more and then we can survive."

"Don't grieve, Kid. Even though your family died, you have to survive for them."

"You can do it, Young man. Though they seem stronger than before, we, soldiers, will also get stronger and then we can survive."

"Don't worry, Captain. Even though we got captured, we would never surrender. You have to endure to live."

"Why are you hesitating? Eat flesh when hungry, drink blood when thirsty to survive."

"Just a little more, Commander. You have to withstand those tortures. I heard we would be rescued soon. Don't lose hope. We will survive."

"Don't close your eyes, Uncle. You will be killed. We haven't finished mining. Your old bones have to endure to live."

"I am amazed, old man. You still haven't lost hope. You think we can survive."

Countless scenes flashed before Carter's eyes. Those were the scenes from his past life.

'Why did I endure? Why was I able to withstand those dark times?'

"To survive.." Carter murmured.

Looking at the man, complex thoughts filled Carter's mind. 'Is this man the reason? Did I really believe we could win?'

Carter sighed softly, 'Then why not now? Why can't I believe we could win this time?'

'I was able to hold onto the belief and hope that we could succeed in that life until the end, but now, that belief and hope seemed to have turned into despair. Was it because in the past life, even enduring for more than 60 years, no one came? So I was disappointed. The hope I held on tightly became just like the sand in the tight fist. '

Carter seemed to be in a daze, 'In that life, I had friends and family who motivated me and unknowingly made me hold onto that hope. Even at the time, when they were no more there with me, I was able to endure.'

Carter recalled the words of that man.

"You are blind," Carter muttered. He closed this eyes and repeated many times. Carter believed there was deep meaning behind this sentence just like before.

Carter opened his eyes as he seemed to understand something. 'I had no one in my past life yet was able to endure those dark times, but now, I have everyone-friends and families, yet I seemed to have lost the determination to live.'

Carter was puzzled. 'Was the despair in my heart so dense that I couldn't see things clearly? My eyes truly were blind.'

Hahahaha!

Carter couldn't help but laugh. 'I was foolish. But now I can see things clearly.'

"Yes, I was blind, but not anymore." Carter stood up. "You have helped me to open my eyes. You have shown me the light." Carter then bowed. "Thank you."

Even though there was no response from that man, Carter didn't get sad.

After that, Carter sat down with a smile. He was now calm and confident. His smile was radiant, showing he was now able to solve all the problems. It was like he was given rebirth.

"Sir, Who are you?"

Carter couldn't hold back himself from asking this question. Carter wanted to know the ident.i.ty of the person. Carter knew he could trust this guy. Maybe also can get help from him.

With the help from this powerful man, Carter believed he could be able to create a stronger force for the upcoming war.

"Author."

"Author?" Carter was confused, so he asked again.

"Yes." The man replied. "I write stories."

"Cough!" Not expecting this answer, Carter coughed. 'Even if he doesn't want to reveal his ident.i.ty, he could just say so. No need to make that silly and childish excuse.'

Clap!

"Okay." The man clapped his hands. "That's all for now."

"Let's meet later."

Somewhere underground

A dwarf was sauntering in the dark. It was difficult to see his features. It was unknown if he knew the right direction.

After a short moment, the dwarf stopped and kneeled in the ground.

There was a coffin in front of him.

The dwarf didn't try to "look" at the coffin. He kept his head down in silence.

"How long has it been?" After a moment, a dense voice full of authority came out of the coffin.

That voice excluded such a pressure that suffocated the dwarf. The dwarf almost fainted.

After the voice faded, the pressure also disappeared.

The dwarf breathed in relief and quickly answered.

"My lord, It has been more than 50 thousand years."

"Bark, I told you to wake me up after 70 thousand years." The voice with some hit of anger came. This time, the voice didn't exclude any pressure.

"Forgive me, My lord. But there have been some problems, and I need your guidance."

"Bark, you should know the consequences of disturbing my sleep. If it's not important, then your whole race will be exterminated. Now quickly speak." The dense voice commanded impatiently.

"Lord, the other three lords said they are ready, and they came for your permission." The dwarf said with fear in his voice.

"They are getting impatient. Just tell them to wait for a decade more. Go." The voice stated.

"Also, mention this to them: If they try to go out, I will exterminate their whole race." The voice later added.

"Yes, my lord."

The dwarf, while keeping his head down, turned and left.

After a while, the voice was again heard.

"After some years, there shall be no humans. Enjoy humans, for now, soon I will let you know the taste of despair. After that, I will exterminate your whole race."

"This will be my REVENGE."
