Chapter 114 : Deceiving Uncle Sheng (11)
–
These days, a rumor was going around the academy. The person who'd been lucky enough to be doted on by the Fourth Prince and had depended on his status had been driven out of the Shenghe Manor. No one came to pick her up after cla.s.s anymore, and she had no place to stay.
Many said it was because Shu Nuan had been promiscuous behind the Fourth Prince's back and had committed an affair behind his back. But when she'd secretly bought musk, the prince had found out and thrown her out of the manor.
Naturally, many people made derisive remarks about Shu Nuan. However, she'd been concentrating on her lessons these days and had no intention to involve herself into these messy affairs.
After cla.s.s, Shu Nuan searched her bag for silver and felt gloomy.
“That day, if I were there… I would have explained the truth to the dowager. You wouldn't have been driven away by the Fourth Prince…” Wen Zhigu said upon returning to cla.s.s after two days. She hadn't expected such a matter to have happened, but she wasn't really surprised.
Those who lived high above the earth had no feelings at all, and they wouldn't listen to Shu Nuan's explanations.
Shu Nuan was surprised Wen Zhigu still remembered this matter. She shook her head casually.
“Would the result be the same?”
“The result would be the same.”
Shu Nuan lowered her head and put her books into her bag.
Wen Zhigu remained quiet for a moment before she asked, “Do you have a place to stay?”
“Yes,” Shu Nuan said, tidying up her books.
“An Inn?”
Shu Nuan pursed her lips and didn't speak.
“Are you running out of money?”
Shu Nuan was silent for a moment, and then she turned to look at her.
“Yeah, do you know a place to work?”
“What will you do?”
Shu Nuan pondered for a while, and said in a helpless manner, “Guqin, chess, calligraphy, and painting… are these counted as work?”
Wen Zhigu was pleased and mumbled, “Yes, the Moon Pavilion has been looking for a woman who knows the Guqin. You can try there.”
Shu Nuan frowned and thought for a moment.
“Will it affect my cla.s.s time?”
“You can tell the boss you work during the night and attend cla.s.ses during the day. It's just that… it'll be harder.”
“It's nothing.”
As long as there was a way for her to live, it was good.
After the two finished talking, they left the academy, Shu Nuan holding her bag. From far away, she saw Ji Xubai's carriage waiting outside. Wen Zhigu frowned a little, but, in the end, she walked over without an expression. After she got into the carriage, the driver set off.
Ji Xubai sat in the carriage with his eyes closed and his mind resting. He heard the noise and slowly opened his eyes. He took a glance at Wen Zhigu and asked, “Why are you so late?”
Wen Zhigu answered, “I was talking to my cla.s.smate.”
“Who?”
“Shu Nuan.”
Ji Xubai didn't ask more. He held out his hand, and Wen Zhigu took the initiative to approach him, preparing herself for the pain. But he lowered his head and touched her lower abdomen instead. His eyes held a gaze that indicated he was a man of deep emotion. Coaxing her like a gentle lover, he asked, “Does it still hurt?”
Wen Zhigu wasn't used to him behaving like this. She frowned and subconsciously pulled back for a moment. As a result, Ji Xubai strained her back by twisting her hand behind her, probably bruising it again. Wen Zhigu's breath was twitchy from the pain. Meanwhile, Ji Xubai looked at her coldly and didn't move. Having no other choice, Wen Zhigu bit her lip and endured the pain to once again take the initiative to approach his arms.
When she was in his arms, Ji Xubai's face looked a little relieved, and he touched her back in a soothing manner.
“How are you feeling?”
Wen Zhigu lowered her eyebrows, and said, “All right.”
Ji Xubai bit her earlobe and whispered, “Then there is no excuse for tonight.”
