Everybody has faced departures with their lovers. Sometimes, the separation was saving a position for a better one to come.
After the game, Zhang Hao was pushed forward by his team to apologize to us. Monkey was still interested in saying some harsh words, but he was stopped by Lu Li.
Ou Yang came to me privately and said, “I’m sorry that I dragged you into this mess.”
I was incredibly overwhelmed by her apology, so I waved my hand to put her at ease. “Don’t worry about it. My cla.s.smates have bad tempers, too. It is I who should say sorry to you.”
Ou Yang laughed when she heard my explanation. “They’re all your cla.s.smates? Then, you’re still in high school?”
I nodded. “Yesss . . . for now. But I finished the College Entrance Exam. I will be a college student in a few days.”
Ou yang looked at me with interest and asked, “Which college?”
As for my college, it was really a famous one—at least famous in my city. But I was the only one in my cla.s.s who chose it. Most of my cla.s.smates had chosen colleges outside the city. Monkey, Wei Zhang . . . etc.
I rubbed the back of my head and replied, “The Eastern University of Science and Engineering.”
“Huh. . . ” Ou Yang was astonished to hear the name of the school; she covered her mouth with her hand.
Zhao Chen, who had heard this, ran over to us and asked, “Did you just say you will be a student at The Eastern University of Science and Engineering?”
My eyes met Zhao Chen’s. There was an expectant look in them, which I didn’t understand at all. Then, I nodded, and an impossible idea took root in my heart.
Could it be that Ou Yang would also be a student of this college?
When I looked back at her with inquiring eyes, Ou Yang laughed as she nodded. “Yes, I am also a student at that university.”
“Not only that, but . . . the rest of them, too. We will be your school brothers and sisters.”
Before I could react to this surprising twist, Monkey jumped in. “Gos.h.!.+ Is this true? You’re all going to be his brothers and sisters?”
Ou Yang still kept her attractive smile and nodded.
It was another moment of drama beyond my wildest expectations. Ou Yang was going to be my sister. Not only her, but, Zhang Hao and Zhao Chen would be my brothers as well. . .
My heart skipped a beat.
“Gook luck!” Monkey pa.s.sed by me, his hand patting my shoulder pa.s.sionately, and left the internet cafe.
“Gook luck!” Wei Zhang also pa.s.sed by, clapping me on the shoulder lightly as he followed suit.
“Gook luck!” Xu Ning did the same thing.
Finally, came Lu Li.
She approached me, and tried to say something. But in the end, she chose the same action of patting my shoulder. “That’s great! What can I say? Other than, good luck!”
Hey, guys? Why are you all abandoning me? We’re teammates!
However, at the moment when all of them had left the internet cafe, Zhang Hao and Zhao Chen both were staring at me coldly. Today was a hot summer day, but I felt a chill.
Zhang Hao walked toward me with his hand covering the swelling on his face. He seemed to want to say something to me, but he simply flipped me off without saying a word.
Zhao Chen hadn’t been beaten by Wei Zhang. But he lost the game, so he embarra.s.sed. He came over to me and gave me a thin smile. “So, younger brother, let’s meet on campus.”
I don’t know why, but I would’ve preferred another middle finger to that smile.
Ou Yang’s cla.s.smates pa.s.sed me one by one. The girl who had some quarrels with us now showed some curiosity about me. She was the only one aside from Ou Yang who showed kindness.
After a little while, all of the audience left, except for me and Ou Yang, who were still staying in the area.
“I would never have guessed that I’ll be your sister.” Ou Yang’s smile was the same, attractive and warm.
I guessed I had only one movement I was skilled in, which was rubbing my head. “I didn’t expect that.”
“So . . . I remember the freshmen should be onboard half a month before us, right? You should have military training,” she said after careful thought.
In truth, I didn’t care about those issues, but she reminded me of the truth anyway. “Yes, I . . . I think so.”
She took out her cell phone to check the calendar. “Today is July 29th. So, you have only a dozen days before the new semester.”
It was already July 29tht? Why didn’t I realize that? So . . . where had the time gone?
