The man’s eyes were bloodshot red as he pulled her into his arms.

“As long as I live, there will never be a new wife.”

His thumping heartbeat and his warm, dry embrace made everything real again.

An Xiaxia felt like she had just woken up from a dream. Sticking out a finger, she poked at Sheng Yize’s face.

One, two… she went on.

Sheng Yize waited patiently. On seeing her wide innocent eyes, his bleak heart felt full again.

“Enjoying yourself there?”

That pulled An Xiaxia back to reality and she cried at the top of her lungs. “It really is you?! Sheng Yize, sob … you’re finally here to save me… I – I waited for so long! I thought I’d never see you again and that the sharks would feed on my dead body…”

“Dead or alive, I had to find you. How could I not come get you?” Sheng Yize didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Caressing her visibly emaciated cheeks, he asked, “How do you feel now?”

An Xiaxia sobbed with grievance. “I’m so hungry and so thirsty…”

She looked at Sheng Yize expectantly. Sheng Yize coughed and said, “I’m not your food. Why are you looking at me?”

“Do you have food on you, then?”

“Nope.”

An Xiaxia looked disappointed. She hadn’t eaten or drunk anything in two days and she thought she was going to die of starvation.

A short distance away, an enormous yacht was sailing toward them. It had been sent by Sheng Yize.

There was a yearning look on An Xiaxia’s face. “Food…”

“Keep still! The doctor will examine you first. Your stomach can’t take a lot of food at this stage!” Sheng Yize scolded her.

An Xiaxia was too hungry to protest and she replied with teary eyes, “Oh…”

Seeing the pitiful look on her face, Sheng Yize smiled a little. “But I guess giving you some water is alright.”

An Xiaxia’s face lit up, thinking that he had some water on him. However, his thin lips pressed onto hers the next moment. His tongue pried her teeth open and he gave her a pa.s.sionate French kiss.

The yacht had brought a doctor with it. After examining An Xiaxia, he prescribed her some medicine and told her to start with a liquid diet.

An Xiaxia downed three bowls of congee in a row, until Sheng Yize couldn’t stand it anymore. “You’ve had enough!”

“I… I’ll just have one more!” Her watery eyes reminded Sheng Yize of a puppy and he almost couldn’t bring himself to say no.

However, for the sake of her health, he still made up his mind and s.n.a.t.c.hed the bowl away from her hands.

“You can’t eat too much yet.”

An Xiaxia gave him a resentful look. After her eyes darted around, she huddled in his arms and b.u.t.tered him up with her sweet, soft voice. “Hubby~”

“It won’t work.” Sheng Yize frowned and sat her down on his lap, asking, “Do you remember who did this to you?”

An Xiaxia shook her head honestly. “I was asleep… and I was here when I woke up.”

Sheng Yize narrowed his eyes, which gave him an intimidating look.

That person had to be very capable to take An Xiaxia away without alerting the bodyguards on the island.

“Did anything out of the ordinary happen recently?” Sheng Yize pressed.

Out of the ordinary? Did that mysterious call count?

An Xiaxia nibbled her fingers. “S- sort of…”

Sheng Yize asked, “What happened?”

“I can’t tell you…” An Xiaxia struggled with her words.

“Heh… I don’t need you to tell me. Did someone threaten you?”

“How did you know that?” An Xiaxia’s eyes were wide open.

Sheng Yize pointed at his own head. “Because what’s up here is different from what’s in your head.”
