They were all guided to the inner palace where their accommodations were arranged but Xing thought it would be better to leave now since she felt something wrong and Chenglei agreed with her too.

During the commotion in getting out of the hall , they had lost Prince Kang and Su Yunxi and Chenglei held her hands and lead her out sneakily.

As they were about to get our of the inner palace, they were blocked by a sly looking man in his thirties. He hadn't even changed his blood splattered robes but he stood in front of them politely.

"Lady and Lord Li... Please...", the Crown Prince pointed his fan making a beautiful arch towards the inner palace.

"Please accept our hospitality! Otherwise we will be offended. Our Emperor has already arranged for an audience for you in the Imperial Court tomorrow morning", he gave a smile that concealed a lot of emotions.

What a cunning fox! Xing thought looking at him. He is threatening he won't let us leave and also that they won't listen to our demands if we leave now.

As Chenglei was talking with the Crown Prince trying to wiggle out of there, Xing noticed Prince Kang and Su Yunxi trying to sneak out.

The crown prince stopped them too.

"Uncle, why are you leaving too? You know it is ominous to get home after the ceremony for the G.o.d of Fire. Why don't you accompany our nation's guests in the Charming Bliss courtyard?"

His tone had many underlying meanings to it and none of them were stupid enough to believe that was a request.

Xing on the other hand just complied to the Crown Prince's order/request. She didn't want to put her supposed brother's family at risk.

The prince saw the leaving back of the four and had a content smile in his face. His father wanted something and he will help him get it. And in turn he will get the throne!

In the big courtyard arranged for them they had two buildings connected with a common room.

Xing and Chenglei who didn't talk to each other much ever since they came here were sitting silently and they were joined by Prince Kang and Su Yunxi after they had washed up.

Yunxi looked tired but since it is customary for them to stay awake the entire night, they started to play GO as they had a board there.

Xing was beating Yunxi rather easily and she soon got bored and noticing Prince Kang keeping his distance from his wife fearing the place they were in, Xing took care of Yunxi. She knew the incidents tonight must have scared Yunxi and she didn't bring any of that since it is necessary for an expectant mother to be stress free.

Chenglei and Prince Kang were silently sipping tea when Prince Kang noticed Chenglei deeply disturbed and out of sorts. He too heard what his sister told him about the blood of the Princess Consort and her unborn child on him.

How stupid of her? Didn't he protect her? How hard is it for her to accept it?

"Aren't you going to apologize to your husband?", Prince Kang looked at Xing. "And why aren't you brewing tea?"

Xing's eyebrows twitched by his questions, "I'm not your maid!", she gritted her teeth. She didn't want to address the issue with Chenglei.

I know I could have saved that family! They loved each other and they should have raised their child together! How cruel is it to let a expecting mother die out of fear? And that too by her own family, a place she should have felt safe became a nightmare for her!

And... She was carrying a child! Something I won't be able to do... Ever! And she died right in front of me!

Xing somehow personalised that incident.

Everytime she saw someone pregnant, she would be happy but she won't be lying if she said happiness is all she felt. There would be this indescribable pain in her lower abdomen, the same pain she felt that day when she knew she cannot have children.

She became more sensitive towards pregnant women and that's why when Chu Weiye threatened her children she was enraged and that's one of the main reasons why she let Kei Takano live. And to see a pregnant woman kill herself when she could have prevented it.... She was really disappointed at Chenglei.

But she knew it was not Chenglei's fault even a least bit and it is entirely the fault of the lecher on the throne!

"Your Husband, tried to protect you and you are faulting him for it?", Prince Kang spoke in a rebuking tone.

This girl must have been pampered a lot and she became too stupid!

"Who is my husband?", Xing furrowed her brows.

Since when did I need protection against these things?

"Mingxia... How could you?", Su Yunxi opened her mouth wide and covered with her hand as if what Xing said was blasphemy.

Chenglei on the other hand was entirely squashed to the ground by her question.

She Really hates me too much!

"What?", Xing pouted, "He really is not my husband.... He is my uncle! "

"How..."

"I'm not lying! My father is his cousin and that makes him my uncle. We can't be married. Ask him! ", Xing who was peeved was left to defend herself.

"JiaXing!", Chenglei's dangerous voice made Xing feel cold for a second.

This woman!

"What?", she curled her lips.

"Stop messing around Mingxia! You are not that closely related and watch your words. Even the walls have ears", Yunxi whispered.

"Wait..."

Xing shooed everyone to silence and that's when she sensed something weird.

There were no guards around their courtyard. Where are they?

Suddenly Xing felt a bunch of men travelling fast through the trees and reaching their courtyard with weapons in their hand.

All of a sudden there were a bunch of arrows incoming and Xing in her urgency to protect Yunxi, pulled her behind her and a bunch of arrows came in through the window.

Prince Kang realised the danger and ran towards his wife.

Yunxi was behind Xing and Xing was still checking her back for a.s.sa.s.sins but she found none.

As she turned, she saw Chenglei screaming at her and she saw an arrow coming towards her and using her ability to control wind, she stopped it and it fell on the floor.

As she was concentrating taking a deep breath to put up a barrier, she sensed an arrow coming towards her from the back and she pulled Yunxi to safety.

Just in that split second before the barrier was pulled up a single arrow that was targeted towards Chenglei just missed the barrier and made its way inside.

Xing sensed it, "Chenglei!", she screamed and she pointed her hand to snap that arrow but before she could stop the arrow, it plunged into Chenglei right in his heart.
