Overlord - Of Sin And Sanctity 2 Chapter 2: New World

(Quick note: Much of this may seem to a repet.i.tion of the first events in the novel, however in order to build good relations (not necessarily relations.h.i.+ps) time is needed and the events here set what I believe to be a good foundation in that aspect. Also, I will not just be following events of the anime/novel forever, but it is so b.l.o.o.d.y difficult to do anything else to start with because most of the actions Momonga took were for the best, and he still has a voice so I couldn't have him absolutely mute. On with the show.)

Dabilosi: Just let me rest my brain a second, I had it working overtime just now.

-----20 seconds of awkward silence later-----

Dabilosi: I don't know anything, but I'm guessing we've transmigrated.

Momonga: That would be the most logical conclusion I guess.

Dabilosi: NO IT WOULDN'T! Not even in the slightest! There is nothing logical about this! A chocolate fireguard is more logical than our existence at this point. Anyway, since you're the ruler of Nazarick just act as you think your boss would. I should be able to get away with the more risky and dumb-sounding questions anyway.

Momonga: I don't think I'll need to be quite that perfect... Wouldn't they accept a few minor mistakes?

Dabilosi: Maybe, but better safe than sorry I guess.

Momonga: Easy for you to say, you seem to have set yourself the easy part. But, did you see the way Albedo looked at me?

Hmm, now that I think about it, was that a slight blush on her cheeks when she was looking at old skelly? Pretty sure it was now that I think about it, so that's even more confirmation that they base their personalities off their settings, but if the change to Albedo's settings affected her then---

Dabilosi: .....Momonga?

Momonga: Yes..?

Dabilosi: Did you... Change Shalltear's settings?

Momonga: Oh no.

He did. Huh.

Dabilosi: This... Is a difficult situation. One that I am not going to deal with right now. So, let's check and see if any of our other functions work eh?

Momonga: To me, Demons of the Lemegeton!

Watching those things run around when you know they're real is terrifying even if you know they won't attack you . But uh... Does the inventory still work?

Dabilosi: *reaches into the pocket s.p.a.ce* Oh that's something at least. We can still use our inventories and voice commands can activate the golems so thankfully not everything has changed.

Momonga: If we're going to test items it should be the ring of Ainz Ooal Gown, since it isn't destructive and we do need to go to the sixth floor.

Dabilosi: Skully? Did I ever tell you that you are a spoilsport?

Momonga: Only a few thousand times.

Bone daddy then disappeared so I followed suit, activating my ring by thought. My scenery immediately changed to that of a dark tunnel, at the end of which was a ma.s.sive raised portcullis. I'm pretty sure that if we had any gladiators they would come through this way, but sadly, we don't, so they don't. As I entered the arena however I almost burst into laughter. I saw the scary skele with his head tipped back looking at the sky, which in and of itself would be perfectly fine. However, his bottom jaw couldn't quite stretch as far as his top jaw, leaving him gaping at the sky in the dead center of the arena like he'd never seen it before. It didn't help that his right arm was hanging limp by his side. It was a stunning sight though, I will admit. Blue Planet really outdid himself on this project.

"Ayah!"

WhWait I --- Oh it's just Aura. He suddenly appeared in the VIP box and jumped down at so I may have gotten a little scared. Just for a second. That victory sign he makes is cute though.

Momonga: Aura, is it?

At least remember the names of the most important NPCs! d.a.m.n skeleton.

Aura: Welcome to the level I guard Lord Momonga!

Momonga: Mmm, I will be intruding for a while.

Aura: What are you saying?! You would never be intruding here Lord Momonga!

I refuse to be ignored.

Dabilosi: Hey Aura!

Aura: Welcome Lord Dabilosi!

Dabilosi: Say, isn't Mare normally with you?

Haha, payback. I should probably not be so petty though.

Aura: Eh? Aah. *Shouting* Mare! The supreme beings are here! How rude can you be not to even show your face!

Dabilosi: Ah so he's up there is he?

Aura: Yes, but he's really timid. *Shouting* Oi Mare! Jump down NOW!

Mare: I, I can't, Onee-chan...

Dabiliosi: It's okay Aura, I'll go up and get him.

Saying that I don't wait for an answer and unfurl my black wings in order to fly up to the VIP box. It was surprisingly easy, considering I hadn't even thought of flying before. It is as if the motions were ingrained into me and actually, considering how much I used them throughout YGGDRASIL, it probably would be ingrained into this body thinking on it.

Mare: L-Lord Dabilosi!

Dabilosi: Don't worry, I'm just here to help you down, so would you like me to carry you, or do you want to jump down together so it's easier for you next time?

Mare: Uh... I think... I'd like to jump down together.

Dabilosi: Ok so, come over here to the edge, and we'll jump on three ok?

Mare: Ok...

Dabilosi: On three. One. Two. Three!

As we jump I can feel him initially grabbing on tighter but once we start falling properly he relaxes again, just slightly. I'm glad he managed to do it in the end even if it was difficult.

Dabilosi: Good job, now let's hurry back.

Mare: O-Ok!

I'm much faster than Mare but I keep pace with her so she doesn't feel like any more of a hinderance, and when we get back I realize that Bones has said something to Aura. I hoped the response wasn't too important but oh well, if it is he should tell me about it.

Aura: Mare! You made Lord Dabilosi come up and get you! Come with me.

Eh? Aura grabs Mare's ear and drags her away to whisper violently in his ear, and Mare seems a bit uncomfortable... I should probably speak up for him at this point.

Dabilosi: That's enough Aura. I believe this won't happen again and I wasn't angry in the first place so there is no need to be hard on Mare. I don't believe Momonga was severely offended either.

Momonga: That is correct.

Aura seems relieved to hear that and sighs. Geez, did she expect us to dole out severe punishment or something. Actually I have something in mind if... No, why did I even think of that? Ugh! But wait, why am I getting the s.h.i.+vers? I mean yes it was a bad thought but it was only that.

Aura: Ah, sorry Lord Dabilosi!, Lord Momonga! It should be ok now, I cancelled it.

Dabilosi: Ah, right. Fear. Don't worry, it didn't affect me too badly and Momonga is immune so nevermind that. Ah yes I forgot to mention, all the floor guardians are coming here soon.

Aura: Including Shalltear?

Dabilosi: Including Shalltear.

Aura: But even just the sound of her voice annoys me!

Dabilosi: Ok that's enough of that Aura. If you want to insult someone you do it to their face.

Hold on, I just thought of something that could startle the skelly.

Dabilosi: [Message - Momonga] Skully!

Momonga: [Message - Dabilosi] Eh?! This works? Seriously? That is amazing! Oh that make everything so much easier. I was wondering, Aura is feeling bored, should I summon a {Primal Fire Elemental} for the two to fight? It would also allow us to gauge how effective the guardians are in regards to fighting.

Dabilosi: [Message - Momonga] Oh so THAT's what your miniature conversation was about! Also that sound like a brilliant idea, we should have time for it, I'll offer to summon some level 75 {Greater Fire Elementals} with control freak to make it more challenging and so Mare gets a chance to show off some of his AOE attacks.

Momonga: Aura, you said that you were bored, with no-one to fight? I will summon a {Primal Fire Elemental} and Dabilosi a number of {Greater Fire Elementals} for you to fight. Would that be satisfactory?

Aura: Oh wow! That would be great, thank you Lord Momonga! Come on Mare!

Oh no, Mare is looking at me with puppy dog eyes... Sorry skelly I'm going to throw you under the bus by giving her a helpless smile. Now she thinks you made me agree. Oh well, what you don't know can't hurt you I guess... Does this make me a horrible person?

Momonga: [Summon Primal Fire Elemental]

Dabilosi: [Control Freak - Spreading Flames] (summons 5 level 75 'Greater Fire Elementals' once every 6 hours that can each summon level 40 Lesser flame elementals)

I honestly don't know whether I would rather fight 5 level 75s or a level 90... Actually it depends so much on the situation there isn't really any way to tell...Well, I hope that was enough to take the edge of her boredom at the very least. She seems happy.

-----A little while later-----

I don't believe the two of them would have any difficulty dealing with just the primal elemental, but while dodging it's attacks Aura inevitably took a few from the greater elementals. Not any serious damage but I feel sorry for her nonetheless. She did do well enough at frontlining to prevent Mare taking a single hit, which is quite the achievement considering the enemies aren't mindless machines anymore.

After they were all defeated Aura and Mare came running straight over to us, and I thought some praise was most certainly due, but Momo seems to have that covered.

Momonga: Splendid! Absolutely brilliant work from both of you.

Dabilosi: Yes, Mare, great control, great buffs, great work all around. Aura, nice work keeping a steady amount of damage and outstanding work protecting Mare.

The ugly skeleton then proceeded to give them a gla.s.s of water each and the siblings seemed waaay too excited to get him to pour it himself. As anyone with even a small hint of enormous compet.i.tive spirit would do, I try to one-up him.

Dabilosi: Aura and Mare, for your outstanding performance I shall give you each a Summoner's Ring . It is bound to me as a one-use item, and when activated it will teleport me to your location immediately. Only use it when it is absolutely necessary, as I only have 3 more.

Aura: Lord Dabilosi! We, I, I couldn't possibly accept such a gift.

Mare: H-He's right... This is far too much...

Dabilosi: Well if you don't take it who will? Honestly, I can't teleport to myself so they'd just go to waste.

Aura: .....Thank you so much Lord Dabilosi! This is a brilliant gift!

Mare: Thank you!

Momonga: [Message - Dabilosi] Did you really just do that?

Dabilosi: [Message - Momonga] Blink and you miss it.

"Oya, am I the first to arrive? I was just so eager to see you Lord Dabilosi."

Oh no. She's here! I was hoping to at least have some of the other guardians around. What do I do?!

Aura: We were told not to use [Gate] randomly in Nazerick weren't we? Since you can walk, you should've come on foot right? And it's started to stink in here, are you sure you aren't rotting since you're undead?

(A.N: Gate is the highest form of teleportation magic)

Can I end this before it escalates?

Dabilosi: Uhm, Aura... Momonga is undead as well. Then again he's a skeleton so there isn't anything to rot but...

Now she's coming this way... Oh no... why is she right in front of me.

Shalltear: Ah Dabilosi, my lord and master...

Oh dear, she just licked her lips and gave me a hug. Oh but I would be lying if I said I wasn't the slightest bit turned on by this. No, no! This is weird, she's doing this first thing after seeing me, it's not right, no.

Aura: Get. Off. Him.

Shalltear: Ara ara, you're still here? Mare, you should leave Aura soon, you might become a weirdo otherwise.

Ok, that is too far, I push Shalltear off me carefully before speaking.

Dabilosi: Ok that is ENOUGH! I don't particularly care what you say to each other, but do not include Mare in it.

Aura: I won't, but I don't know whether fake-t.i.ts can be trusted.

Yeh, I had noticed already, thanks for mentioning the obvious. But I guess something is better than nothing when it comes to insults.

Shalltear: What are you talking about?!

So that basic line got a critical hit? I will never understand women.

Aura: With how many pads you obviously stuffed in there, it probably s.h.i.+fts while you run. That's why you took the gate isn't it, so your 'chest' doesn't fall off?

Dabilosi: Ok Aura, now you're pus.h.i.+ng it too far.

Shalltear: Shut up shorty! At least I have a chest!

Aura: I still have plenty of time to grow, you're undead so you're stuck like that.

I don't think they heard me.

"What. A. Ruckus"

Ah finally, someone has come to save us. Thank you Cocytus, I cannot properly express my grat.i.tude it is so immense. Wait I just did. Nevermind.

Cocytus: You. Stand. Before. Supreme. Beings. Control. Yourselves.

Momonga: Shalltear, Aura. Playtime is over.

It's getting a bid chilly in here. [Triplet Boost Maximise Magic: Cold Resistance]

Now I don't feel the cold at all, and because I murmured it under my breath I don't think anyone saw it.

Momonga then proceeded to hog a conversation with Cocytus to the point where I couldn't get a word in edgewise. If I didn't know any better I'd guess he didn't like my one-upmans.h.i.+p earlier and this is payback.

Cocytus: ---I. See. Demiurge. And. Albedo. Have. Arrived.

Demiurge: Forgive me for keeping everyone waiting.

(A.N: When I first read that I thought it was nothing special but note he says 'Forgive me' rather than 'I apologize'. From his very first line you can gain a glimpse into his personality)

Dabilosi: Never mind that, you are here now, and that's all that matters.

Momonga: I see everyone is here.

Cocytus: My. Allies. Have. Not. Arrived. Yet.

Eh? Albedo seemed to freeze up at that, Shalltear and Aura too, so they're likely related to the areas under one of those three's control, it's allies plural so there is more than one, and the fact that all those freezing were female means it's probably... Him. Kyouhukou of the black capsule. He isn't a floor guardian however so!

Dabilosi: I believe it would be best for the floor guardians to each relay the message to their respective area guardians.

Momonga: Agreed.

(WARNING: Copied almost directly from the light novel. I will not be so shameless as to claim this as my own work but I hadn't a clue how to change or avoid mentioning this as it leads onto something.)

Albedo: Then, everyone, let us pledge our loyalty to the Supreme One.

All the Guardians nodded as one, and before either of us could interrupt, they had lined up before us. Albedo stood at their head, while the other Guardians formed a line behind her. All the Guardians had solemn, respectful expressions. They showed no sign of playing around.

Shalltear: Shalltear Bloodfallen, Guardian of the First, Second and Third Floors, presents herself to the Masters.

She went to one knee, one hand pressed against her chest, and bowed deeply. After that, Cocytus stepped forward and said:

Cocytus: Cocytus. Guardian. Of. The. Fifth. Floor. Presents. Himself. To. The. Masters.

Much like Shalltear had, he knelt before us like a va.s.sal before a lord. Then, it was the twin dark elves' turn:

Aura: The Guardian of the Sixth Floor, Aura Bella Fiora, presents herself to the Masters.

Mare: Al-Also a Guardian of the Sixth Floor, Mare Bello Fiore, presents himself to the Masters.

They knelt respectfully and lowered their heads. Shalltear, Cocytus, Aura, and Mare all had different bodies and thus they should have each taken their steps forward differently. Yet, the way with which they knelt was identical, and they lined up neatly.

After that, Demiurge advanced in a dignified manner.

Demiurge:The Guardian of the Seventh Floor, Demiurge, presents himself to the Masters.

Following his crisp words, Demiurge went to one knee in a graceful descent, as though expressing his heart through his actions. Finally, Albedo stepped forward as well.

Albedo: The Guardian Overseer Albedo presents herself to the Masters.

She smiled to Momonga, and knelt like the other Guardians. However, Albedo continued speaking in a high and clear voice as she delivered her report.

Albedo: With the exception of the Fourth Floor Guardian Gargantua and the Eighth Floor Guardian Victim, all the Floor Guardians are gathered before you. Thus do we offer up our utmost loyalty to the Masters.

That seemed far too solemn and genuine for me to interrupt. It really touched my heart, my black, wizened heart.

Momonga: Raise your heads.

Oh? That was a pretty good line, and what's this?! He released his aura as well? He might be better at this than I believed. What to do? Ah yes let's go for [Judgment Aura]. I'll let him carry on, he seems to have this covered.

Momonga: Then… first, I thank all of you for coming here.

I made a mistake. The heck are you doing you walking piece of cartilage?! This, is not, what you should say! I repeat, NOT! But now it HAS to play out, good job, really well done.

Albedo: There is no need to thank us, we are your loyal subordinates. But my lords, it is only natural for you to doubt us, after all our abilities are miniscule in comparison to yours.

Ok, I need to correct that, preferably without ruining the atmosphere. They seem to think we're omnipotent and that will just set them up for disappointment.

Dabilosi: It is good to speak respectfully Albedo, but do not demean yourself or others. Continue.

Albedo: I will bear that in mind. However, if you or Momonga gives the order, all the Guardians will accomplish any task set to us, no matter how difficult. We hereby swear that we will never allow the Forty One Supreme Beings of Ainz Ooal Gown, our creators, to be disgraced by our actions.

Other Guardians: This we swear!

Dabilosi: Guardians. We have heard your vows. Be glad, for just as you trust us, so too will we place our faith in you and your service.

Shouldn't Sebas be here by now? [Perception Field - Ally]. Ah, he's on the second floor and moving pretty fast, he'll be here in a second.

Dabilosi: In just a second Sebas will arrive with some very important information. As Albedo may or may not have told you all, I sent him to scout the area surrounding Nazerick in order to gain a better grasp of our current situation after experience a small fluctuation in my magic power. Ah, here he is now!

Sebas proceeded to follow suit with the guardians and go on one knee.

Sebas: Please forgive my lateness.

Dabilosi: Never mind that, please report your findings to both us and the guardians.

Sebas: To begin with, the terrain surrounding Nazarick is plains for a few kilometres. However, to the west of us is a forest that seems rather vast, and to the south-west is a human village. These humans do not seem to be a threat, as the highest level I found was 10. I did not investigate any further however, as by that time I needed to return.

Dabilosi: Are there any other terrain features? And it isn't a swamp?

Sebas: That is correct Lord Dabilosi

Momonga: Guardians, increase the readiness of all floors by one level. It may be that the inhabitants of the area near the new location of Nazarick are weak, but we cannot say that for sure about other inhabitants further away. Until we get a better grasp of the world around us we must be cautious.

Good call Momo, I will trust you to speak one more time. Just don't blow it this time.

Momonga: Demiurge, Albedo. The two of you will be in charge of drawing up a more comprehensive administrative system for Nazarick. Do not include the eighth floor - in fact, I am going to undo the seal and permit direct access between the seventh and ninth floors.

That's!.. Actually quite sensible. The guardians seem a bit gobsmacked that we would let the resp.a.w.ning POP monsters onto floor nine though. Let's fix that.

Dabilosi: It's fine, since we don't know what we're up against, we need extra hands for security. But don't let just any random thing in.

In regards to concealing Nazarick, here is what I believe should happen. Mare should create mounds in the surrounding area and cover the sides of Nazarick so that we are concealed physically, and I will set up illusions to cover any remaining discrepancies. These illusions will be necessary as random mounds appearing will likely alert any major powers to the existence of 'something' in the general area. It is less obvious than not creating mounds and sitting out in the open however, as any illusions to cover the entire top of nazarick would be incredibly costly and would be easily found out by anyone if this area happens to be in between two cities. Any questions?

No-one seems to be speaking up so-

Momonga: Good, then I would like to ask you each a question. Shalltear, who are we to you, honestly and personally.

Dammit Bones! You just had to steal my thunder didn't you. I mean, that's a good question, and I didn't really know what to say next, but I would've thought of something!

Shalltear: You, Lord momonga, are a s.h.i.+ning example of perfection, and Lord Dabilosi is the incarnation of beauty itself.

Momonga: Cocytus.

Cocytus: The. Mightiest. Beings. And. The. Only. Ones. Deserving. Of. The. t.i.tle. Supreme.

Momonga: Aura, Mare.

Aura: A merciful leader with great foresight and the most just and generous being.

Mare: T-The kindest and gentlest of all.

Momonga: Demiurge.

Demiurge: Wise leaders who can make decisions and act on them immediately. Truly, the only ones worthy of the t.i.tle 'inscrutable'.

(A.N: Always loved that word.)

Momonga: Sebas.

Sebas: The lords of Nazarick with characters of the highest caliber, who did not abandon us, rather staying at our side until the end.

Momonga: And finally, Albedo.

Albedo: The man who rules over the supreme beings and whom I love deeply, along with his most loyal and trusted friend.

Time to have the last word.

Dabilosi: Very good. We have heard and understood your opinions. We trust that you will carry out your duties faithfully, and we will in turn reciprocate your efforts.

Dabilosi: [Message - Momonga] To the throne room. Let's confer.

Momonga: [Message - Dabilosi] If you say so. You practically ran that conversation.

I let skully teleport first however, as he is after all supposed to be the leader here, as much as I disagree. 'Sigh'. We really need to plan what to say next time.
