Mimi blinked her eyes blankly, not understanding the reason for his sudden retreat. Before she had the chance to ask what was wrong, the man lowered his head and cleared his throat.
His voice was a little hoa.r.s.e, "I will."
Mimi raised her head to look at Tobias and chuckled, disregarding his previous movements.
"Good." She patted his arm, unaware of the sudden stiffness in his body.
Tobias cleared his throat again, "You should attend your meeting."
Being reminded of this, Mimi sighed heavily. "Hmm… Fine. But I meant what I said before. I do have plans later, so you don't have to bother with driving me home."
About to open his mouth to retort, Tobias recalled the girl's previous words and immediately shut his mouth.
"…All right."
The hearty smile on Mimi's lips grew slightly lighter as she stared at Tobias's clouded expression, appearing to be thinking about something.
"Well then, want to walk me out?"
After the words fell, there was an unprecedented shock reflected on Tobias's cold face. Once again, an indiscernible feeling came over him and his black eyes softened. He couldn't help but reach out to gently touch the girl's head.
"Okay," Tobias smiled gently.
Mimi nodded and the two left her office. Upon exiting, Mimi cast a glance to the side and saw Jean sitting with her head still bowed down, averting her gaze. Noting the woman's obedient appearance, the corner of her mouth curled up.
"Jeanie, is everything prepared for today's meeting?"
When Jean heard the girl's crisp, smiling voice, she raised her head and glanced over at Mimi.
"Yes, Mr. Andras," Jean said in all seriousness.
"Mm, then let's go."
"Yes, sir."
Mimi flashed the woman with a faint smile. At that moment, the tense nerves in Jean's body melted. She stood up from her seat, collecting the folders on her desk and hurried to walk behind the two.
Looking at their backs and Mimi's laughter while looking up at the towering, attractive man beside her, Jean's heartfelt at ease.
That's good, she seemed to be back to normal again. Though risky, Jean felt she made the right decision giving Tobias Mimi's schedule information. She didn't seem too mad either.
Arriving in front of the elevator, Jean walked over and pressed the b.u.t.ton. Mimi turned to look at Tobias and grinned.
"Well then, this is where we part."
"En."
"The journey ends here."
"En."
"We may never see one another again after this you know."
Her words unknowingly plucked at the man's deep-rooted heartstrings.
"That won't ever happen." Tobias's expression was exceptionally serious, his unwavering gaze never leaving her figure.
Mimi was slightly surprised, but her face quickly reverted to a giddy smile.
"Hehe, very true."
With the way this man clung on to her, the chances of them separating were practically impossible. Looking up at the clock on the wall, Mimi sighed.
"All right, I'll see you tomorrow, Toby!"
Mimi waved at him and walked into the elevator with Jean. Tobias smiled while waving back until the elevator doors closed. When the girl's figure was no longer in sight, the smile on the man's face vanished.
A shadow pa.s.sed over Tobias's eyes.
…
It was now late afternoon.
Finis.h.i.+ng her meeting with the board members, Mimi left the company and phoned for a cab. The car drove for forty minutes before arriving in front of a worn-out warehouse.
She exited the car and stepped toward the building. Though the expression on her face was emotionless, the chilling rage in her eyes could not be concealed.
Mimi pushed open the door and saw Shen Jue using his computer, his hair meticulously combed back, revealing an angular handsome, unsmiling face, and a pair of slightly narrowed, beautiful peach eyes - he looked thoroughly engrossed.
However, Mimi didn't care about that. Upon identifying the man's face, all the emotions she suppresses when around Tobias, her brother, and Jean came forth.
Shen Jue detected the girl's presence and looked up; a look of joy crossed his eyes. He set his computer down on the table.
"Ah, little one, how unexpected to see---"
Shen Jue hadn't had the chance to finish his words when a small figure rushed toward him and a pointed dagger was at his throat. He looked up calmly and saw a pair of eyes filled with cold, murderous intent staring back at him.
As if there wasn't a blade pointed to his throat, he looked at her with a lascivious grin, not a trace of anger could be seen.
Truthfully, he was a little surprised by her abrupt actions and the joy in his eyes faded away.
"Oh? I have to say, you were quite skilled when you pulled that dagger out just now. Since when did the little one learn how to use one?"
Mimi didn't respond and continued to stare at him icily. Shen Jue's face bore a faint smile, the faintest flicker of amus.e.m.e.nt hidden within.
"Perhaps it was during your testing period at the Hirogori's. I wouldn't have expected you to learn anything after fainting that day."
As soon as the words left his mouth, without warning, the cold steel held to his chin sank deeper against his skin on his throat, but it didn't pierce. If he leaned in even the slightest, he would be pierced.
Despite all of this, the man's eyes had not a revealed trace of panic in them.
Those fragmented memories had been squeezed into her mind and without a hint- had he not mentioned it, she would have never tried to recall it.
All she remembered was the cold, empty darkness.
It was suffocating.
Mimi felt herself become disordered, unable to s.h.i.+ft back into a calm state as she tried to pull back her emotions.
Shen Jue glanced down and detected the faint tremor in the girl's hand. Tilting his head, he met with Mimi's eyes that glared with animosity. There was no softness in her gaze. It was a look that conveyed a fueling hatred. Disgust, perhaps.
Looking closer, Shen Jue could detect another familiar emotion. Small, fragmented pieces in the girl's heart-shattering once more.
The amus.e.m.e.nt evaporated from his eyes, but his calm smile remained. Noting his relaxed appearance, a sinister smile suddenly resurfaced upon Mimi's face.

"Shen Jue, I should just kill you right now."
An eyebrow lifted on Shen Jue's face. "What's stopping you then?"
The man looked wonderfully calm, even his tone revealed indifference. Mimi was silent, her eyes still staring at Shen Jue, trying to decipher the emotions on his smiling face. Not minding her silence, Shen Jue's smiles grew.
"If you want to kill me then go ahead, I won't mind. If it's by your hands, I don't mind dying. Maybe then, I can finally be with your sister once more."
Something snapped in Mimi's head. Her fists clenched tightly, turning them white, her figure exuded an animosity that was like acid.
A vicious sneer crept across her face, and she flashed a mocking look at Shen Jue. "I'm surprised you can say something like that. After all the sins you've committed, what makes you think you'll end up in the same place as my sister?"
Shen Jue crooked his mouth and said, "Who said I planned to go to heaven?"
