Tap
Evangeline continued to tap her stylish nails against her desk while looking out at the window, ignoring everyone's frowns and glares even ignoring the teacher's warning for her to stop tapping her nails.
But then the teacher gave up when she warned for the tenth time, and still, Evangeline ignored her.
Though Evangeline appeared bored and indifferent, her brain, however, was in jumbled, formulating reasons as to why Eric was absent today.
Could he have gotten sick?
Evangeline clicked her tongue at the thought. If only she had Eric's phone number. But the guy didn't even have a phone!
Speaking of phone, she glanced at hers and saw Daniel's name appeared, she automatically deleted the message without even opening it. Not one bit interested from the man who betrayed her trust.
Evangeline sighed as her fingers tapped impatiently. Couldn't wait for the morning cla.s.s to end.
BZT!
Evangeline brows slightly twitched when her phone vibrated once more and saw Daniel's name. She deleted it yet again and then turned off her phone.
She didn't want to admit that she still felt p.i.s.sed from what Daniel did to her. She did, after all, gave him some level of trust, and she was still a human who felt hurt no matter how good she masked it with indifference.
Daniel felt annoyed, watching Evangeline who didn't even read his messages.
Forget it. If she doesn't want my apology, then I won't give it to her.
Daniel slumped her back on the leather chair as he mumbled to himself that he wouldn't give a d.a.m.n about Evangeline's business anymore.
As far as he was concerned, the moment that Evangeline didn't as much as read his message, they were finally – over.
DIINNGG!
At the first ring of the bell, Evangeline immediately stood up and flung her designer bag on her shoulder as she walked towards the teacher.
"Teacher."
At Evangeline's voice calling for the teacher, everyone was stunned that some even stopped when they were about to went out of the room. Even the teacher was at a loss.
Seconds went by and the teacher finally reacted, arranging her gla.s.ses on the bridge of her nose.
"What is it." The teacher couldn't help but feel guarded, thinking of what might Evangeline wanted with her. This was the first time that the girl called for her.
"Eric is absent today, I want to give him a copy of today's lesson, personally. Mind if you give me his address?"
…..
…..
The onlookers were momentarily dazed as they couldn't believe their ears.
E-Evangeline…
T-the Evangeline Heart… was asking for Eric Phelps…? The school nerd. The most irrelevant character?
Even the teacher was in a dazed until Evangeline raised her brow and flashed her famous fake smile.
"Well…?"
The teacher absentmindedly pulled her record book and flipped it to Eric's information, didn't register the reason why the woman was asking about it now when there was still a cla.s.s in the afternoon.
Evangeline didn't waste any more time. She didn't even ask for the teacher's permission before she flashed her phone and snapped her camera to take a picture at Eric's private information.
Then she beamed that didn't reach her eyes and sashayed out of the room.
The moment that Evangeline was gone, the room burst into an uproar.
And poor Eric, he was drowned at the center of it all.
----?----
BlackPine Country
Inside the Cole's secluded mansion.
"Why are you still so stubborn and prideful?! Isn't it enough that Aunt Emerald died? Now you wanted for Evangeline to suffer as well?"
Upon arrival, Asher instantly snapped his thoughts every time that he faced off with his old man and grandfather. He didn't understand why Marcos Cole refused to acknowledge Evangeline as his granddaughter. If the old man did, Evangeline would automatically inherit a portion of the entire Cole's wealth which she could live like an Empress for the rest of her life without worrying about anything even if she resurrected hundreds of times.
Another thing, Asher was furious because the old man refused to punish Robert Krisnov for what he had done to both his Aunt Emerald and his cousin, Evangeline.
Alexis slightly shook his head as he covered his forehead with his palm. Here we go again.
"Asher." Alex Cole, Asher and Alexis's father, reprimanded with low yet stern voice.
But Asher didn't fear any of that.
"Why aren't we doing anything to that b.a.s.t.a.r.d?! Why are we just leaving him alone after what he had done to Evangeline?! To aunt Emerald!"
"Enough!"
The loud commanding voice reverberated in the four corners of the private study chambers of Marcos Cole.
Asher's lips were instantly pressed together. Even though he didn't like it, he still, after all, respected and feared that regal old man, sitting ramrod straight on that leather chair which look more like a throne.
The unshakable head monarch of the family, Marcos Cole.
"With your intelligence, you still don't get it? It looks like I am overestimating you." Marcos's deep azure eyes that lost it s.h.i.+ne struck fear in Asher's heart that he somewhat stopped breathing.
"Asher." Alex looked at his son in disapproval. "Do you think with the death of my only sister and mother, father won't be devastated? Your grandfather is the most devastated from all of us--"
"Shut your mouth!" Marcos snapped.
Asher and Alex slightly jolted while Alexis was so nervous that he began to bit his nails in fear for his father and brother's life.
"If we attack Robert Krisnov out of revenge, what do you think will happen to Evangeline?"
Asher glared and immediately answered. "I will take care of her for the rest of her life. Evangeline doesn't need a man like that. I can give her everything that she wanted."
"FOOL!"
All the men present jerked at the loud barked of Marcos Cole.
"Idiot grandson of mine! Even he's like that, you still can't erase the fact that he is Evangeline's father. Even if he is an a.s.shole to her, every daughter still doesn't want their parents to suffer. And what makes you so sure that Evangeline will allow you to destroy a company that she and her mother was part of? What's more, if we acknowledge Evangeline as one of us, she will no longer be free! And more importantly, her life will be in danger! How many people do you think are out there eying for our clan?! Can't you think of the consequences before you speak?!"
Marcos's angry face looked at his grandson.
And finally, he sighed in surrender when Asher looked a little ashamed and embarra.s.sed.
"Alex, give him the folder."
Alex frowned and interjected. "Father, he's just but a boy. He's so emotional at the moment--"
"Just give it to him."
Alex hesitated for a moment before he handed a folder to his second son.
"What's this?" Asher eyed the two older men suspiciously.
"Read it, and you'll know." It was Alex Cole who answered.
Asher flipped the folder while Alexis remained motionless. He was trying to hold back his curiosity to take a peek at the folder.
Asher flipped the pages and scanned through them. His face turned darker by the minute.
"Does Evangeline know?"
Asher asked after a while when he finished reading through the file.
Again, it was Alex Cole who answered.
"No. We don't have enough evidence yet. It's best that she doesn't know. Else, who knows what she'll do once she found out."
Asher breathed a mouthful of air before he closed his eyes, trying to calm himself.
"What are you going to do after gathering enough evidence." Asher glared at the two men, telling them that once he had enough evidence, he would not settle less for a fate worse than death.
Of course, the two older men knew exactly what was going on inside Asher's head based from the boy's expression.
This time, it was Marcos Cole who answered. "Make no mistake. Once we have gathered enough evidence, even Evangeline cannot save her father's corpse."
Asher smirked.
"Old man, I think it's you who doesn't understand Evangeline. Once she knows, she might as well be the one to deliver her father's corpse to you."
