"Yes. I got the contract. It smoothly went than I imagined." Alvaro chuckled while his father softly laughed.
"Good work. Your grandfather will be pleased. Are you returning now?"
Alvaro didn't answer as his eyes darted off towards the horizon.
"No… I might visit Evangeline first."
"….."
"….."
"I see… well, it's a good time since you managed to free up most of your schedule from finis.h.i.+ng the deal early."
"Mm…" Alvaro didn't reply and just hummed, apparently in a good mood until his mood deflated.
"Dad, I'll call you later. Maxine is on the line."
"Oh… alright…"
"…."
"…."
"Alvaro."
"Yeah?"
"*ahem… do send me pictures of Evangeline."
"…."
"Of course…" Not.
Then Alvaro ended the call and picked his other phone reserved for people outside his family.
The moment Alvaro picked up his phone and pressed the accept call b.u.t.ton, a melodious gentle voice of a woman resounded.
"Alvaro…, are you still in Frizkiel?"
Alvaro was baffled as to why Maxine would call him at this time, knowing that this was his working hour. Still, he answered in a polite, gentlemanly tone.
"Not anymore."
"Oh… does that mean that your business deal is already over?"
"Yes."
"…."
"…."
Alvaro waited for the woman to finish her words. He got the feeling that Maxine was a bit hesitant and shy, so he patiently waited for her.
After a moment the gentle voice resounded once more.
"I'm sorry… I don't want to bother you…" Maxine could feel that Alvaro was in no mood to talk right now.
Alvaro inwardly sighed. Gradually, his countenance turned soft.
If it were any other women, he wouldn't bother. But since it was Maxine Celestine, the granddaughter of his grandfather's friend and the only daughter of the president of BlackPine Country, he had to give her some face. Not only that, everyone expected him to marry Maxine in the future.
He had no qualms with the idea since Maxine was perfect, in every sense of the word. She was groomed from birth to be a proper lady. Had womanly virtues and skills. Very pretty and gentle and gave off that innocent housewife vibe.
And… Maxine had like him for as long he could remember.
He was not a believer of love. He believed that marriage was all about timing. When a man was ready to settle, any woman that happened to be by his side would do.
And since he already accepted the fact that Maxine was going to be his wife in the future since the woman was very adamant to wait for him no matter how long it would take, so of course, he would treat her more different than the rest.
Alvaro adjusted his voice, lowering it a few octaves, making it softer to urge the woman to continue. "No, it's fine… tell me what's on your mind."
Maxine's voice turned somewhat high pitch and excited, signaling that she was very happy.
"I didn't want to bother you, but I got so thrilled. Remember that I had visited Burberry country a month ago?"
Even from the other side, Alvaro could feel the excitement oozing from the girl, so he continued to listen while flipping some of the doc.u.ments in his hands.
"Yes."
"And I told you that I had met with a girl there and we became friends."
"Mm…." Alvaro continued to respond though his mind was silently reading the papers in his hand.
"It turned out that she is the niece of Robert Krisnov, the one and only owner of one of my favorite brand, FROZEN."
!!!!
Evangeline's father?
That got Alvaro's full attention, and he inquired more.
"And?"
Maxine giggled, her voice excited. "And, she sent me an invitation letter to attend to her twentieth birthday next week!"
"Hmmm…" Alvaro rubbed his chin as if in thought.
Now I know the reason why she suddenly asked me where I am.
"Thus…, I'm... I'm wondering if you want to come with me to her birthday party?" Maxine's voice turned faster with a tint of bashfulness.
Alvaro could imagine the pretty doll-faced woman blushed a rosy pink.
He smiled and answered honestly. "Sure, why don't we meet in Burberry next week?"
This is perfect! I can use this as an excuse to stay with Evangeline a bit longer.
Maxine didn't reply right away, but Alvaro could hear that soft squeals and giggles.
He sighed silently.
Girls will be girls.
Albeit Maxine was already twenty-two years old and acted nothing but a proper lady, when it came to him, she regressed to being a typical teenager.
"Thank you… I'll see you next week then…"
Alvaro didn't give it much thought that Maxine's voice turned softer and somewhat alluring as he went back to reading the files on his hands.
"Mmm… bye…"
"…. Goodbye…."
Alvaro ended the call and leaned on the chair and immediately typed on his laptop.
Momentary later, he saw various news and announcement in different media and entertainment site that Angel Lin, rising star and sweetheart of Sparkle entertainment industry, niece to Cherry Lin Krisnov who is the new wife of Robert Krisnov was going to have a grandiose party in one of Burberry's world cla.s.s hotel, celebrating her twentieth birthday.
Heh… Celebrating others people's birthday, but forgot your own daughter's.
Alvaro turned off his laptop as his mood worsened. His eyes glint menacingly as his gentleman face turned darker and sinister.
What a useless man.
