Her family members restricted her lifestyle this entire time and did not communicate anything with her properly. For so long Lyn a.s.sumed that they disliked her, she had such awful thoughts. But deep down a part of her understood already.
For the sake of the Kingdom, how much have these people sacrificed? In order to keep the Kingdom stable, what did they sacrifice? Lyn could not imagine their burden and pain. That was why she did not mind it.
It is okay if they ignore her, if they treat her like she does not exist. What hurt the most for her were those fleeting moments of kindness. What use is there treating her kindly for one time and then changing later?
It hurt more knowing that kindness was temporary or for some hidden purpose/agenda.
"Since their purpose is you, that would explain why my family aren't here."
"Was n.o.body bold enough to invite my mother?"
"Dearest Lyn, I'm sure you understand how difficult it would be if they invited the Queen here."
'I don't actually.' Lyn wanted to tell him but she kept her mouth shut there. For the next few minutes n.o.body spoke and her gaze fell on the scene before her.r. Other royals and elite members were chatting and mingling with one another. The knights were lined up in different corners of the room.
"Do you like jewelry Lyn?" Allen suddenly questioned.
Lyn blinked. "Do I look like the type who likes it?"
"I wouldn't know."
At that comment she sighed. 'Well, I guess that is true. Why would Allen know something like that?' Now that she thought about it, the two of them have never talked about themselves. So many years have pa.s.sed since they became engaged, but to think they don't even know the most simple things about each other.
"I'm not the type to wear jewelry, but I do like it. I'm not the type to get swayed if people show me expensive things either. Material possessions mean nothing to me, but there are things I like." Lyn trailed off. "Does that answer your question?"
Allen nodded. "Very well, then my present didn't go to waste."
Present?
She watched as Allen took out a medium sized box from the side. He opened it up and her eyes widened seeing a gorgeous necklace.
"I understand that you do not own anything like this. But, I believe it would suite you."
'This must be a first for him, giving me a proper gift.' She glanced down at the necklace. Material possessions never meant anything to her. That was why she didn't bother with them before. But.. Lyn grabbed hold of the necklace. "Thank you Allen."
.......
Lyn walked down the hallways exhausted. She rubbed the temple of her forehead with her fingers. 'A headache and I feel sick.' Allen made sure to watch over her so people wouldn't trick her to drink. But, she still had to drink. So this is what it feels like to have a hangover? She doesn't understand how people could drink alcohol. It tasted terrible.
She wanted to return to her quarters, but unfortunately it was already far too late. The host of the party arranged rooms for them. It was difficult navigating through a unfamiliar place but she eventually found her room. It was in a separate area of the castle.
Allen must have arranged this.
Lyn opened the door k.n.o.b and found that there was somebody in the room. Even without switching on the lights, she already knew who it was.
"Did they really just let you in here?"
Rhys lips curve to a smile. "Yeah they did. It seems like everybody here knows about us."
She removed her hair accessory causing her hair to fall past her shoulders. Her gaze didn't leave his, "Where have you been?" Lyn questioned. "I haven't seen you in a week."
"Ah, you missed me."
Lyn sighed as she went towards the curtain and slipped of the dress. She picked up the red material from the side and got changed. "I find it strange. Are you going to start avoiding me because my ident.i.ty is reveled now?"
"Relax, I won't do that."
"It doesn't seem like it." Lyn called out, as she removed her shoes.
"Would I be here if that were the case?"
She still felt that something was wrong, but Lyn heard him stand up. He walked up to the curtain. "Are you done?"
"My shoes."
Rhys pulled the curtain away and bent down. "Hmmm, why did they make you wear something like this?"
Lyn extended her hand out and she mumbled softly. "Rhys."
At that comment Rhys looked up. "Something to say?"
"I missed you."
He immediately drew her into his arms. "You've learned how to talk well Princess. But, do you miss Kazuya too?"
Lyn blinked when she heard that question. She didn't expect him to ask about Kazuya. Then again she supposes it is only normal for him to ask that question. "I missed you only."
Rhys scooped her up in his arms and brought her to the bed. He did not reply to her and loosened his robes. "Princess Lyn, you need to stop being so naive." Rhys muttered against her ear. "Or perhaps you actually enjoy me teasing you?"
Lyn extended her hand out and caressed his cheeks. "You smell like another woman, don't you know that?"
She caught his scent briefly earlier. A beautiful fragrance.
"Heh, are you jealous again?"
She shook her head. 'When was I jealous?' To her surprise Rhys suddenly let's go of her. "Somebody is at the door."
"Lyn?" A familiar voice said.
Allen!
She immediately scrambled of the bed. Rhys reached over and draped the cloak around her shoulders. "Don't make him see you like that."
"I know!" Lyn puffed her cheeks annoyed. 'Why does he treat me like a kid.' She left the bed and walked over to the door. Lyn took a deep breath before she opened it.
Allen pa.s.sed her a basket. "The host gave us this, just in case you get hungry at night. They tend to lock up the cooking areas."
"Thank you."
"You can take mine too." He pa.s.sed her another basket.
