Chapter 134

The flash of color James had seen underneath the bridge, was indeed, a mob. Or, to be more precise, what appeared to be a boss mob. That was all it could be, considering the ma.s.sive size of the thing, and the effectiveness with which it was taking on James's adventurers.

As the adventurers reached the middle of the bridge, eight gummy tentacles seemed to unfurl from underneath the bridge. They struck the top of the bridge, las.h.i.+ng out at the adventurers, even as the chocolate dripped ominously off of the color appendages. Out of habit, James attempted to pull up the information on the mob. However, all he was able to pull up, frustratingly, was its name, level, and type. It seemed he was not going to be able to glean all of the information from the mob as he had hoped. Ah well.

Tier 1 Boss Mob

Sourpus

Type: Sour Gummy Octopus

"Sour…pus?" The name, actually caught James off guard. BLANK came off as cold, calculating, cruel. Did they really put in a pun as their creature name? He knew they wouldn't have choices over their regular mobs, but the fact they had given the octopus that name definitely threw him off.

"Eh, I'll give them a B for effort." Rue said as she took a bite out of, fittingly, a sour gummy creature. It seemed she had changed her bag from gummy worms, to octopus, to fit the fight.

"Like, I could think of at least five more names that would be much better than that."

"I'm sure you could." James commented, though he was struggling to come up with a good one. Speaking of struggling, James watched as his adventures scrambled about. The boss had definitely caught them off guard, and James realized BLANK had likely layered their entire first floor with the chocolaty river, to allow their boss free roam of the floor.

It was similar to how James had structured his own floor, though they had gone with a hybrid design. Their first level definitely still seemed like a dungeon, with its different paths and rooms, but that chocolaty river meant you could never be safe from the boss mob. James had to wonder how many players had gone to the chocolaty river for a taste, and been pulled in. The thought was rather terrifying.

"Get away from the river." The warlock called out, running across the bridge as he did. A gummy tentacle crashed down right where he had been standing a moment before, and James watched as little sparkling bits flew off of the tentacle. The sparkling bits, which on the candy would have been the sour pieces, flew through the air for a moment, before they burst apart in small explosions.

"What the h.e.l.l?" James exclaimed even as the adventurers cried out in surprise and fear. One of the adventurers, the warrior, who had been near one of the exploding sour pieces, stared blankly ahead, his hands searching about the air. It seemed the sour explosions temporarily blinded the poor man.

"Carl." The warlock called, and even as a tentacle flew toward the stunned warrior, the devil rushed towards him. The devil crashed into the warrior, sending him stumbling off the bridge, back onto the dry candyland. Unfortunately for the devil, that meant he was now in the tentacles path. The tentacle made contact with the demon, and swiftly pulled him off the bridge, and into the chocolatey depths.

"Nooo." The warlock cried in distress, his eyes scanning the chocolatey surface for his pet. Warlock pets were unique in DCO. You had to summon them as level one imps, and then as they fought alongside you, they gained experience and leveled up. It seemed the warlock's pet, Carl, had to at least be level 10, to become a devil. Meaning the warlock was going to have to start over again with a level 1 imp, if the devil died.

Of course, saving the warrior had been the better play, if they were to defeat a boss mob. But James felt a tinge of pain for his adventurer. Losing a level 10 pet, especially when you were only level 16, had to be upsetting.

Chocolate swirled around where the tentacle had pulled the devil down, and a moment later, James watched in horror as the devil was lifted back out of the water, along with the sour octopus's entire head. The octopus dipped its bulbous candy head back, revealing a very hard and deadly looking beak. Slowly, it dropped the devil towards its mouth, which seemed to grow unnaturally wide.

"Oh no, Carl." James whispered, feeling for not only the warlock, but the devil in that instance. The poor devil was trying, unsuccessfully, to break free of the gummy grasp, and even as the warlock began casting a spell, was swallowed whole by the octopus. The devil was sucked into the candied bulbous ma.s.s, and James could just make out his struggling shape within the gummy insides of the boss. That was terrifying.

"That was unexpected." Rue commented. As terrifying as the scene was, there was something comedic about the whole fight. After all, five adventurers are clad in a mismatch of demonic gear and farm related clothing, were battling a giant gummy octopus that was swimming around in a river of chocolate. And, that octopus had just eaten a devil.

"I'll save you Carl." Rue added, and she took a bite out of the head of the gummy octopus she was holding in her hand. Cla.s.sic Rue.

"I don't think that's going to help." James commented, even as he stifled a laugh of his own. While this battle, and all of the others ongoing were extremely important with regards to how much dungeon essence he would be gaining in preparation of the third day of the dungeon wars, he couldn't help but be amused. Not only that, he was thoroughly excited to continue watching as the battles unfolded across his and BLANKs dungeon. Part of the fun, and sometimes pain for him, as a dungeon was seeing the different types of mobs he ended up with. Therefore, it was really exciting to see what strange and unique mobs BLANK had come up with, even if he was certain they had upgraded the mobs to the point of being ridiculously op.

Case in point, the Octopus, having consumed its devil meal and taken note of all the adventurers now off of the bridge, and starring at it in horror, reared up out of the water, and launched a thick chocolatey substance directly at them. Four of them scrambled back in time to avoid getting splashed. The warlock however, stood in horror, as his mind tried to process his mob had just gotten eaten. As such, the black fluid splashed over him, completely covering him from head to toe. A split second later, it seemed to harden, creating a chocolatey statute from the warlock. Yeah, that boss seemed totally balanced.
