Chapter 41

"It's them." James had instantly enlarged the screen that was flas.h.i.+ng, and after pulling up the players' information, he knew without a doubt, it was Dwight and his friends.

"It's who?" Rue glanced from James to the group, and he realized he hadn't mentioned why he wanted to set up a mimic in that specific location. It seemed while the strange voice had known, his pixie did not.

"Ah. Some bullies from school." James glanced sheepishly at Rue, before he turned his attention back to the group. The bullies were all FPS and sports game gamers, they weren't used to MMOs. That was evident immediately in their team composition. Four of the five players were orc warriors, with three armed heavily with ma.s.sive swords, and the forth sporting a s.h.i.+eld. Likely that fourth was their designated tank, the one that Dwight had been yelling at during school.

They had literally gone with the largest, most brutish cla.s.s and character type they could find. Their fifth, wasn't much better. While most teams tried for the tried and true method of a tank, healer, and three dps, it seemed Dwight's team had gone for 4 melee DPS/Tank hybrids, and a, James couldn't believe his eyes, an orc bard? James had a slight suspicion whoever of that group of muscle bound bullies had chosen bard, had thought it was barbarian.

"So, you set up this mimic just to get revenge on them?" James could see from the corner of his eye Rue was watching him carefully. Was she going to scold him? He knew it was petty, but he finally had the power to get back at them, he wasn't going to let this opportunity pa.s.s him by.

"I know Rue, I should be better than-" He stopped as Rue rose her hand, a devilish grin crossing the pixie's face.

"Oh no. I'm totally okay with this." She hovered over to his...o...b..and leaned on top of him, watching the group. "I would have been disappointed in you if you didn't use the powers you have for instances like this as well." She traced a finger lightly along his tentacles. "It's nice to know you've got a," she paused as her finger lightly traveled back up. "a bad side."

For a moment, James had no idea what to do. His mind was literally blank. She had just broken his teenage loner mind. Movement on the screen brought him back to his senses, as the character that James was certain was Dwight, given his username was D-Man, moved closer to the chest.

"You sure about this D?" The bard, username Rick-Roll'd, was glancing at the chest, and the leader. Judging by the name that had to be Rick. James was certain that the senior had grabbed Bard thinking it was a barbarian. Oh this was going to be good.

"Hey man, the chest is here, just like Specs said." Dwight motioned towards the chest, and the others all nodded. "He said it had a gold coin in it. We can get that coin, and rule the freaking town. No more need coming into this dungeon and fighting these stupid mobs."

"I was actually starting to enjoy-" The tank stopped talking as Dwight shot him a glare.

"We each still have our building tokens. If we combine them, we can create a ma.s.sive building. Then, with the gold coin, we can hire a few adventurers to go into the dungeon for us, and bring back a bunch of materials. Meanwhile, we set up a fight club, and a brothel. Bam, easy money." Dwight's eyes were glowing with excitement.

"Oh, he is such a tool." Rue looked down at James, and offered him a sad smile. "You really have to deal with this guy daily?"

"Sadly, yes." James couldn't wait for Dwight and his friends to graduate. However, the school year had just started, so his dream wouldn't happen for a long time. However, now that he knew their usernames, he could at least do his best to pay them back for the real world, whenever they stepped foot in his dungeon.

"I'm so going to help you get some revenge." Rue's eyes held her dangerous, mischievous look to them. Sometimes, his pixie's intensity scared him. Right now, he was all for it.

"Well, let's see what happens here first." Dwight's group members were all level 6, meaning they had done okay the first night of immersion, and could probably take on small packs of level 10 mobs. However, if they had been smart, they would have stayed outside of the dungeon, and fought the new mobs the developers had added in, until they were level 10. Even then, they wouldn't have been ready for the mimic. It was level 20 after all.

"Alright, well here's to b.o.o.bs and booze and the good life." Dwight's group cheered as he said the words, and he reached his ma.s.sive orc hand towards the chest. James held his breath as he watched the bully slowly begin to lift the lid.

"Here it comes." Rue's voice was giddy with excitement, and just as the chest began to open, all h.e.l.l broke loose. From within the chest two arms shot out, wrapping instantly around Dwight. Even as the bully screamed, a high pitched squeal that James would never forget, the bully was pulled into the dark abyss of the mimic's mouth. Legs unfurled from beneath the chest, and the monstrous treasure chest rose, standing nearly 7 feet, Dwight's body kicking and screaming while half consumed in the mimics mouth. A second later, Dwight's form turned into a ball of light, and James grinned as he gained some experience.

"What the he-" The tank was grabbed before he could finish, his sentence turning into a scream of terror as the mimic lifted the orc's body with ease, and flung him back towards the group. Bodies smashed against bodies, and James watched as the group's life bars sunk down below half. The mimic opened its mouth wide, a tongue flopping comically from the dark abyss, and let out an eerie cackle. Mimics in DCO were terrifying.

"Let's avenge Dwight." Rick seemed to be the only to have regained his composure, and James nearly lost it as the bard pulled out his instrument. Watching an orc, staring fearfully at a giant mimic, holding a lute awkwardly in his ma.s.sive hands, was just too much. James also figured Rick and his group had no idea how terrifying mimics really were, and that they should simply be running away. Good ol bullies, never knowing when to back down.

"Easiest party wipe, ever." James grinned, and sure enough, the battle was over in less than 30 seconds. Even as Rick plucked the first string of his lute, the mimic's arm shot out, elongating and growing unnaturally, to wrap around the musical instrument. It ripped the lute from Rick's hands, and then smashed the musical instrument against the bard's head, causing him to flash away into a ball of light. Then, as the rest of the group turned to run, the mimic's tongue shot out, wrapping around the tank again, smas.h.i.+ng him into the others, and literally beating the remaining members to death with their tank. It was slightly ironic.

Achievement Unlocked- Everybody Loves Large Chests- Wipe a party of adventurers with a single mimic

Reward: 2000xp 1000 resources, 1 dungeon token, 1 upgrade point to mimics

"I can upgrade mimics?" James was grinning after he read the achievement and turned towards Rue, his chest walking slowly back to where it had originally been set up, before it resumed its harmless appearance. He had known mimics were formidable, but he had no idea he would be able to upgrade them like normal mobs.

"Mhmm. You have the ability to upgrade all your special loot mobs, just like regular mobs. The spiffy thing with them though, is their upgrades will carry over across every floor." James focused on his mimic, pulling up its information, and his grin widened even more. There weren't nearly as many skills available for his mimic as there were other mobs, and James figured that was because the only way he knew of to get the upgrade points for these special mobs, was by achievements. That being said, the options he could choose, were all nearly impossible to resist.

Calming himself, James selected the option he felt was the most fitting for his current stage as a dungeon. The skill Mischievous Mimic gave his mimics the ability to randomly swap spots with a regular chest. That meant, every treasure chest on his floors now, had the potential to randomly become a mimic. That would keep adventurers on their toes. Oh how he loved being a dungeon core. James silently hoped Z's group would come across a mimic. If any group could fell one of these monsters, it was them, and James was really curious what the mob would drop. On the other hand, if Z's group fell, well, James wouldn't mind the extra experience. James was hoping he could hit Tier 2 Rank 2 by the end of the day, after all.
