No one moved. They were all momentarily shocked. By her sudden burst of scream.

She turned to glare at Tan, who has now resting at the kitchen entrance grinning. "What... What did you add to my food?"

"Chili! Pepper... Whatever you wish to call it. You also helped by cooling it down with a wine." She indicated at the jar, Ruqin was still holding.

Slowly, Ruqin raised the jar and put it close to her nose. In an instant she threw it away. The ceramic jar shattering into pieces.

Zeng scoffed as Weidong laughed heartily.

People from Yan village wasn't good at eating saucy foods! Nor drinking wine!

"What do you have against me, old hag?"

"Nothing, Milady!" Tan started laughing and went back into the kitchen.

Leaving a stunned Ruqin.

And then the camera was paused.

The chairman clapped his hands. "Good, good. Director Ye I must commend you for your intelligence, Producer Fang you're doing a great job too. Not forgetting, Bai Xueyan you're one good talented actress! Y'all are doing good," he then quickly turned to the president. "Right President?" He wasn't going to give the old man time to codemn anything. It only gave the director and producer more stress.

President Yuchi cleared his throat and made a single sound to acknowledge, "Hmm,"

"Hahaha!" The chairman laughed joyously! Who said everyone didn't have their cards to display. He had one and it was to shut the president up.

"We'll take a break! Go retouch your make up and have a look at your scripts for the second time... We'll continue later. Also fill your stomach." Producer Fang announced.

Xueyan made a turn headed to the back with Mei Han as she dialled a number. "Hi mom,"

"Darling Xue, how are you?" The woman excited voice came through.

Xueyan smiled. "Fine, and you? How are you fairing? What about father?"

"Uhmm. We're doing good. Just worrying about you staying away from home. How's the weather there? I hope they don't starve you because you're still new? You shouldn't forget to dress properly during the evening. Remember you're out there in the cold, so please protect yourself all the time!" Mrs Bai lectured.

Xueyan nodded her head continuously as if her mother was right in front of her. "Yes, yes. I will do just as you say." She heard her mother sigh. "I'm also being treated well here! Everyone here's kind."

"Really?" The woman asked, surprised. "They are really nice to you? I made Yuxi do some research, they are not usually kind to the newcomers."

"You have nothing to worry about mom."

"You know you can always tell us! We're your family and you should hide nothing from us!"

"I will keep that in mind. Thank you ma,"

Another sigh of relief from her mother, Xueyan sighed. She hadn't contacted her parents since she came, but she wanted them to know she was safe and fine.

"Our little princess isn't back from school yet. The other day, she came back with a tablet... Or so I think. She said your friend gifted it to her. Yuxi also confirmed it. Did you know about it?"

"Yes," Xueyan chuckled so her mom wouldn't suspect. "I'm fully aware."

"Ok, will you come back during the weekend?" Mrs Bai worried that her daughter being out for too long wouldn't be good. "I will cook something very good."

"I... Maybe yes."

"Take care," they both chanted and started laughing.

Mei Han had a light smile on her face. She heard everything the woman had said, because it was eerily quiet at the back. Xueyan had a sweet and loving family. She wondered what it would be like to have one. And then her lips curved down.

Xueyan hung up and saw the look Mei Han was wearing. "Is everything okay?"

"Yes. But you see? I'm not the only one worrying about you. You're so fragile..."

"Am I?" Xueyan frowned upon the last word.

"Hehehe. No, you're not." Mei Han denied immediately. She then pa.s.sed Xueyan a pack of chips. "This chips is from the state, it was five only and I took two. So enjoy it," she said, raising and dropping her eyebrows.

Xueyan could only smile.

"It's very hard to find it here within the country..."

"So this is what you two do? Sneak chips and run to the back to eat them." A voice ahead interrupted. Mei Han was momentarily shocked.

They turned, it was Yin Anhao with her arms akimbo. She then s.h.i.+fted to the side and her two other companions came out.

Deng Yue had that "I don't care" look as always.

While Fangxi was showing her fangs ready to grab her share of the meat.

"Don't you have any better thing to do, than follow us around?" Mei Han angrily asked.

"Shut up, you orphaned girl!" Yin Anhao fired. "We both are not in the same cla.s.s! I have my parents with me! And I would never think of harming them."

Mei Han's eyes easily misted up. And it only made Xueyan angry. She tried ignoring this fools but now they were aiming for Mei Han's heart.

"Yin Anhao, I dare you to say one more word!" The anger could be detected in Xueyan's voice.

Yin Anhao opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. Xueyan was shooting daggers at her, as if spiritually holding onto Anhao's throat.

"You can direct your anger at me. You're mad at me, so talk to me instead of directing it to an innocent person."

"Then teach her how to keep her mouth shut!" Deng Yue said immediately Xueyan finished.

Xueyan pressed her lips together. "So?"

"Bai. Xue. Yan." It was Fangxi that spoke up. "You think you're so smart right? Don't worry, soon enough I will tear that mask off your face!"

"Does it bother you that much?" Xueyan smirked. "You're putting a lot of effort into trying to paint me bad!"

Fangxi scoffed. "No. You're wrong about me putting a lot of effort, remember you were once easily gotten rid off when you tried to override your shadows. You couldn't even go to college. It's very easy to do away with a n.o.body like you and that orphaned girl you call your secretary."

Mei Han turned to look at Xueyan, what did they mean by easily got rid of her? She totally forgot they called her an orphan. But Xueyan didn't react. She didn't even bat an eye. 

"You will have to try harder this time! I won't easily give up! And you won't easily win like before. You will have to watch me steal what makes you happy." Xueyan sauntered out of the backyard, brus.h.i.+ng shoulders with an unprepared Fangxi, she almost knocked her down if not for the help of Deng Yue who supported her.

"Xueyan!" Fangxi screamed but by then Xueyan was long gone. "That stupid girl! Ahh!" She straightened up, her heart rose and fell in anger or maybe fear, she didn't know.

"Are you alright?" Yin Anhao asked.

"No. No!! No!!! I'm not! I thought it would be easy to do away with that s.l.u.t... But who knew she had something planned out." Fangxi seethed. Xueyan didn't do much, but that expressionless face annoyed her. How can she act unaffected by everything they were doing? Just how?

"I don't think she has though." The silent Deng Yue spoke up. Fangxi tried to breath in and out as she was running out of breath.

"Why?"

"Xueyan doesn't have anything. No family who's strong enough to support her. No connection. Nothing. Her support back then is long gone. She just built up a tall fence for defence, which will come tumbling down with just a little poke."

"I agree with Yue," Anhao supported. "Seriously Fangxi, think about it. She's just pretending to be strong. We all know she isn't. She wasn't and will never be."

Fangxi shrugged. "Maybe you're right. It's must all be a pretence."

Yin Anhao smiled triumphantly. "Yes Xi,"

They quickly vacated the place, and didn't see a black figure emerge from the woods.

Xueyan was chewing on the chips when she saw the three girls coming to where she was sitting from her mirror.

They each took a table, "I would like to start shooting my parts," Fangxi sudden announcement surprised the makeup artists around.

Xueyan took out her phone and started playing a game. She didn't want to have anything to do with those three ladies. So turning a blind eye to everything they do would do her much good.

She would be able to protect herself, but then she prayed silently that G.o.d gives Mei Han the strength to fight them off too. She had seen as one single statement was able to make Mei Han's eyes mist up. Xueyan then smiled bitterly. 'That fool. She said she could protect me. She can't even protect her heart from shattering.' 

Who does that? You want to protect others but can't protect your own self.
