"Little girl, can you answer them?"
Remaining silent, Xi Rin thought over those questions. But as time pa.s.ses, Xi Rin still hasn't spoken a word.
And it grew impatient. "Little girl, even if your answer is wrong, your life can still be wagered. But it will end now if you don't answer!"
Going with what she truly believed, she opened her mouth to speak.
-------------------------------------------------------
"How do you define Right? How do you define Wrong? Somebody just killed your lover and you took revenge by killing them back. So was it right to avenge your lover? Or was it wrong to kill for revenge? Which one is it?
You cannot judge without knowing everything first. What seems so wrong could be justice doing itself. What seems so right could be an unnecessary and useless help. What seems evil might just be a facade. What seems innocent, could be the most black-hearted of all. A person cannot be born evil or good. It is life that changes them."
Why be kind when the world treats you cruelly? How can you still be kind? How can you?
This principle, she knows it all too well. Her past life's witch of a mother, would abuse her, drank alcohol, neglected her to starve. Call her trash. Demon. Good for nothing. Useless. Worthless. Evil. And she would wonder if she what sins she has committed. Why did she have to suffer like this? Was she a mistake G.o.d made?
"In a world like this, even black could be twisted into white. But no matter what path you take, there is always a sacrifice. Everything has a price. Will it be a life? Will it be your morals? Your dignity? Your heart?"
At this, her lips raised in sorrow. She has already lost too much. She was called heartless, but her heart has been long shattered. How can she still have a heart left? Her tears, she can cry no longer. They have run out long ago. Her pride, her dignity, they have been long crushed by her mother.
"So in the end, when you look back, is this the life you wanted?"
If she could, she wished to be born into a better family. Born with a better mother and father. She wished she has stood up to her wretched mother. She wished to have live longer. To grow up to take things into her own hand. To move away from her abusive mother. To see daylight one more time.
But its too late for any of them now. But she never once regret losing her life for him. Only Kai, only that boy has ever shown her kindness. He was naive and foolish. He was silly and weird. But he was her friend. And that's one of her greatest regrets. Leaving him behind.
But before she could drown in her sorrows and regret, a chuckle was heard laughing in the dark. And from the dark, a figure slowly revealed itself. It was an elegant man, one full of pride and arrogance. Imposing and proud he stood, but his hair has long turned white. Signs of age was evident on his face, but it did nothing to deter the handsomeness of his youth. Although his mouth is smiling and he looked so gentle, his eyes were not. Sweeping coldness and mockery filled his eyes.
"Pretty words they are! But are they true?" , the old man spoke in an overbearing tone. And before Xi Rin could ponder over the meaning of his words, a white light blinded her.
Slowly, the white light cleared up to reveal something that was not the darkness. But instead of feeling relieved, she turned white at the sight.
Raging seas and thundering lightning filled her sight. But what made her paled the most was the sight of the familiar boy in front of her. Desperately swimming against the currents, his clothes stuck to his lean body while his arms kept increasingly swinging up and down in an attempt to swim faster. His hair, s.h.a.ggy and wet, stuck to his face, but he paid no mind as he tries to catch his breath. But the boy's face was all too familiar. It was young but nonetheless handsome. He was what people would call a "shota". Too innocent looking, he was short for his age and still has yet to hit p.u.b.erty.
Ah... Late bloomers...
But it is this very exact shota that chocked her to the core. Seeing him swim so persistently, although the waves would keep pus.h.i.+ng him back, it made her heart breaks. All of a sudden, the boy turned his head back and looked straight at her.
Calling out to her in urgency, "Rin! What are you doing?! Swimmmmmm!!!!! C'mon, I see land! Just a bit more! Swim, Rin! Swim!"
His voice bought her out of her shock, but then she began to tremble in realization. This scene was not any scene. It was her very own death scene.
From nowhere, the voice of the old man from before rang out again. "As an award for your answer, Little girl, I'm giving you the chance to change the past. One move is all it takes. And you can go back to living there again."
Ah, Little girl, what will you do?
