Last week, even with the army camp all around the area, the Sacrificial Tree was left isolated. As per the Crown Princess order, the others did not get close to the tree. The soldiers camped around to stop anyone from getting too close or damaging the tree.
But as Princess Lingchen stepped out of the carriage, the surrounding has become livelier. It was as if there was a festivity going on around the tree. The tree was decorated with some paper talisman. A temporary place to live was built not far away from the tree.
A few members of the Nanlin Tribe had come to join the ritual, and the Yang and a few Jiang's family members had stayed to keep Yang Yun's company. Even the Princess' grandfather, Han Zhenting, had traveled from the capital to witness Chief Ye and the others open up the portal.
They have only heard stories from Chief Ye about the portal. Besides a few elders in the tribe, none of them had ever seen the portal. Naturally, they were curious.
This was why Princess Lingchen had come over as well. She wanted to witness the ritual and how the portal could appear.
"Your Highness, you're here," Fei Liu greeted. He turned to the Jiang brothers, Jiang Xiao Xian and Jiang Xiao Tian and greeted them.
The two brothers have been accompanying the Crown Princess for a few days as she went to inspect the newly constructed dam.
Princess Lingchen glanced towards the tree and then, back at Fei Liu. "Is everything going well?"
"Everything is ready," Fei Liu said. She led the Princess into a tent and said, "According to Chief Ye, they should be able to create a portal before midnight."
The Princess looked up at the sky. "We still have a few hours left. Where is Chief Ye?"
"The Chief and the tribe members are gathering in the main tent," Fei Liu reported. "I'll take you there."
Princess Lingchen nodded. She followed Fei Liu, and soon, they arrived at a large tent. Fei Liu helped to flip the curtain door open before the Princess, and the others walked in.
The atmosphere turned quiet as the three walked in. Once they noticed that it was the Crown Princess and the Jiang brothers, everyone started to clasped their hands and bowed.
"You can all be at ease," Princess Lingchen said. Once everyone was at ease, the Princess walked towards Chief Ye. "I heard from Fei Liu that everything is ready for tonight."
Chief Ye nodded. "Yes. We were just waiting for the time to arrive. We will all head out after dinner."
The Princess turned to Yang Yun. "How is it? Are you ready?"
"I am always ready."
Looking at Yang Yun, Princess Lingchen could tell that he was more than ready to walk in into the portal to look for his wife. After all, it has been almost six years since the two had been separated.
Princess Lingchen took out a small pouch from her clothing and handed it to Yang Yun. "You might need this when you arrived on the other side."
Yang Yun took the pouch and peeked at the contents. His eyes widened in surprise as he saw expensive jewelry inside. "Your Highness, I can't possibly accept all these." He tried to return the pouch but was stopped by the Princess.
"I don't know what kind of currency they are using in the other world, but I don't think it will be the same as what we use here," Princess Lingchen said. "But gold and jewelry will always be valuable. It might take you a while to find Mingyue. You should use these whenever you need."
Yang Yun thought about it for a moment. He saw Han Zhenting nodded at him and finally pulled his hands away. "Thank you, Your Highness."
Han Zhenting smiled as he walked towards his granddaughter. "We will be having dinner soon. You should join us."

Princess Lingchen nodded. She followed her grandfather out and sat with the others. In a while, dinner was served. Although the atmosphere was lively as there were many of them gathering at the same place, Princess Lingchen could tell that everyone was not in their mood to eat.
The sky was getting darker, and soon, Yang Yun will depart to a place they know nothing about. Everyone was worried about Yang Yun's safety. That night might be the last time they saw Yang Yun.
When dinner pa.s.sed, Yang Yun stayed with his mother and sister. Yang Yun's heart grew heavy as he looked at his family. He was anxious to go and look for his wife, but when he realized that he would have to leave both his mother and sister, he could not help but feel guilty.
"Brother, you don't have to worry," Yang An spoke. "I will take care of our mother. Even if you are not around, sister-in-law's family will look after us."
Yang Yun gazed at his sister and patted her hair. He did not realize when had his sister grew so much. Looking at her now, his sister should reach a marriageable soon. As his brother, he should help his mother to look at the candidates for his sister's husband. But now, he was going to leave them alone.
"Mother, please forgive your unfilial son. I will not be able to accompany you for a while," Yang Yun said as he turned to his mother. He took a few steps back to bow down and kowtow to his mother. When he got back up, his mother pulled him into her embrace.
Yang Yun could only blink in a daze as he did not know what he should do. It has been a long time since his mother had embraced him like that. Back then, when he had joined the army, he no longer allowed his mother to hug him as it was not manly enough. But soon, he wrapped his hand around her mother's shoulder and started to pat her softly on her back.
"I don't have many things to say. It is enough if you could return safely with Mingyue," Liu Qing Xin said.
Yang Yun parted with his family and joined Chief Ye and Lu Wei beside the Sacrificial Tree.
"Are you ready?" Lu Wei asked.
Yang Yun only replied to him with a nod.
"Well, this is goodbye," Lu Wei said. He slapped Yang Yun on his back once and continued. "Don't worry too much. I will help to keep my eyes on your family members. Don't be nervous. In the past, a few of the tribe members had gone and returned safely. I believe that you will return safely too."
"But we did not know for sure if he could go and return safely. This is the first time that we are attempting to create another portal," Chief Ye reminded them.
Lu Wei looked at his grandmother with displeased. "Grandmother, you should not scare him."
"It would not be good to lie to him too," Chief Ye pointed out.
Yang Yun could only smile as he looked at the grandmother and grandson duo. Ever since he got to know them, the two would always argue back and forth. In the beginning, Lu Wei would only keep his silence whenever his grandmother said something. However, he grew bold after days of spending time with his grandmother. He was no longer afraid to argue back.
Soon, another elder from the tribe went towards the chief and whispered.
Chief Ye nodded before he turned to the others. "Get ready. The time will be soon."
The others started to move towards their place to recite something. Yang Yun took a deep breath and began reciting a few words that Chief Ye had taught him. His eyes were looking straight towards the tree. Once the portal appeared, he should enter before it disappears. Once it disappeared, it will be hard for them to have the chance to create another portal again.
Soon, the sky grew darker. Then, there were whispers around them.
Yang Yun lifted his head to look at the sky and saw that something was blocking the moonlight. His lips parted in awe.
Moon eclipse!
He quickly returned his gaze at the tree. The last time Mingyue vanished, a sun eclipse had appeared. Now that a moon eclipse had appeared, Yang Yun knew that this was a sign that soon, a portal should appear.
As the moonlight dimmed, a faint blue light appeared at the tree trunk. The light continued to grow brighter, and a swirl appeared as if sucking everything that got close to it.
Slowly, Yang Yun approached the tree.
