When she first entered the room, Lin Mingyue went straight ahead to look at his injury and did not check how he looked like. His face was pale with some smudges of blood. As she continued to study his face, Mingyue felt a sudden sharp pain in her head. She winced to ease the pain away.
"Doctor Lin, are you alright?" Nurse Tang asked when she noticed that something was not right with the doctor's expression.
Mingyue took a deep breath. It felt that the pain she experienced earlier was nothing but in her imagination. "I'm alright," she answered. "Let's continue."
Nurse Tang nodded and stayed beside Mingyue to a.s.sist her.
The process finished in a short time. Once Mingyue finished, she instructed the others to continue their task. Her eyes fell on the man's bruised left arms as she was about to leave. By the look of how it swelled, they could guess that the man had a bone fracture.
"Nurse Tang, don't forget to give him an X-Ray."
"Um, I know," Nurse Tang nodded.
Just as Mingyue was about to leave, she felt someone grabbed her wrist. Her eyes widened in shock to see that the man had caught her hand. Mingyue peeled his hand away from her wrist and looked at his face. "Hey, you're awake? Can you tell us what your name is? Do you know where you are now?"
Just as they thought the man might be conscious, he stayed still and did not move.
Doctor Lu stepped forward to check on the patient, while Mingyue glanced at the monitor to see that everything was stable.
"Doctor Lin, you should go and have your lunch. Don't worry. We'll look after the patient," Nurse Tang said once they were sure that the patient was not in a critical situation.
Lin Mingyue nodded. She turned and left the Emergency Room. Once outside, Mingyue leaned on the wall to catch up her breath. When she looked at the man's face just now, Mingyue could feel her heart wrench. She felt sad without knowing why. Mingyue was afraid that if she had stayed longer in that room, she might start to have a panic attack.
That man. Why does she feel like he looked familiar? It was as if she had seen him before.
"Hey, Lin Mingyue. What's wrong with you? You're feeling unwell?"
She froze for a second before she turned around. Xue Yi Ming stood before her with a worried expression. "Nothing," Mingyue shook her head and forced a smile. "What is it? You have settled the bills?"
Xue Yi Ming glanced at the paper on his hands. "How is that man?"
"He's doing fine. A few wounds on his body and he probably had a fracture on his left arms. They haven't come back with a full check-up. But, there is nothing life-threatening. However, it may take some time before he wakes up." Mingyue stood up straight and noticed the bruise on the man's forehead. "You're injured as well."
"I'm fine," Xue Yi Ming touched his the plaster on his forehead. The paramedics had given him a quick treatment back in the ambulance.
"Where did you find this person?" Mingyue asked after hesitating for a while.
"I didn't find him. He appeared out of nowhere, and I crashed into him. We didn't find any identification on him. So I didn't know anything about him. This is a little troubling," Xue Yi Ming said.
"You couldn't find identification on him?"
Xue Yi Ming nodded. "I have made a police report. Hopefully, they will be able to find something." When he realized what he had said, Xue Yi Ming stared at Mingyue with a frown.
"You… Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing." Xue Yi Ming shook his head. He quickly looked away before Mingyue would notice something.
"Well if there's nothing else, I have to get going," Lin Mingyue said. "Brother Xue, you better don't think of running from responsibility. You already confessed to me that you were the one who hit him."
"Do I look like someone who had no moral principle?" Xue Yi Ming clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction. "Don't worry. I'll wait until he wakes up and takes care of him until he's healed. I am not someone irresponsible."

Mingyue laughed. She waved her hand and disappeared behind the walls.
Xue Yi Ming sighed as he watched the girl walked away. It took her two years to laugh the way she did now. Back when they first found her, Mingyue did not talk, or smile as much. She was almost like a lifeless doll. General Lin and his family members spent their time to look after Mingyue and slowly, she began to respond to others.
Xue Yi Ming frowned as something crossed his mind.
The situation was almost similar to six years ago. Back then, when he first met Mingyue, she too had appeared out of nowhere and was found without any identification on herself, just like that man. Xue Yi Ming's frown deepened as he thought about the similarities of both situations.
He snapped out of his trance when he remembered that the man's belonging was still with him.
Xue Yi Ming peeked into the small pouch. Inside, there were two small daggers, dried food, a bamboo water flask. He paused and did a double-take at the water flask. Because of the accident, the flask cracked, and the water inside was drained.
But, who on earth used this type of bamboo water flask in this time and age?
He decided to ignore the flask in his hand and reached the small pouch at the bottom. Xue Yi Ming untied the bag and peeked inside. Instantly, he felt as if he was about to be blinded by the amount of gold and jewelry.
"Holy," Xue Yi Ming gasped. The words he wanted to say did not leave his lips. Swiftly, he stashed the pouch into the bag. "The gold and jewelry couldn't be real, right?" he whispered to himself. "Who is this man? He couldn't be a thief, right?"
