HELP AND IMPATIENCE

Meanwhile, at the location of the collapsed auditorium which has now turned into pieces of rubble, Yurika cried out loudly—

「Gather any injured at the square near the school gate. There's a shelter there! And if you know anyone that might have been buried underneath, please report it to the school staffs!」

After hearing her voice, those who were escaping from the building or just recently escaped from being buried under the rubble themselves, were trembling. The sounds of the battles happening from the distance were sometimes frightening and stopped them from their tracks, but they were supported by the staffs of the Magic University so they can reach the square. The staffs already finished their evacuation plans and received information that some of the buried people were saved already.

According to the list that the staff brought, over 40 students have gathered in the auditorium. There's quite a number of magic barriers in the auditorium and one needed to sign from the list to be able to get in and out so there's no doubt about the number of students. And so, 37 of the students have been rescued from the rubble―thanks to the magic embedded and the materials on the walls which softens once they get in contact with people.

Yurika POV[1]

When I touched the rubble, I felt the soft texture. It was the light film which feels like a cus.h.i.+on that's covering the rubble. This was probably the magical effect that Mel-san embed during the construction of the building. However, this does not mean that the weight of the rubble has disappeared because the magic embedded on it doesn't wholly protects people. If the rubble were to hit a person, he would feel a shock and if it were to hit the head, he would faint. When one is buried underneath, it would be hard to get out by himself.

That is why――

「If you are conscious, please make a sound or cry for help!」

In order to find the other missing three people, I shouted towards the mountains of rubble but still, there came no answer. I have to search for them but―

(Because of this mess, I can't pick up any presence…!)

There were so many creatures around us for me to be able to detect their presence using magic, moreover, I have no such precision to exactly distinguish only those three who were buried. There're also no such Hero Cla.s.s magicians between the staff members.

(Those three students… Where are you?!)

I couldn't hear the voices of the buried students. They might be unconscious, or hurt so much that they couldn't speak.

While gritting my teeth, I pried away the rubbles. There's no way we can leave those students behind but if we stall for too long, the staffs might get in danger.

I need to go and help her immediately. I have to tell her that we are now in a situation where we can escape even if we can't defeat the magic beast. But I'm not strong enough. I thought that once I graduate from the Magic University and build the best company in the city, I could grow stronger even a little bit.

Tears flowed endlessly from my eyes but I have no time to cry. There were people around but I, too, have my hands full of searching for the students under the rubble. I couldn't even help my master. And so, with my hands on the rubble, I didn't cease from digging the rubble. However―

「Somebody, please lend us a hand!」

Those words slipped from her mouth. I uttered not weakly but with my utmost desire. It was that moment when――

「Do you need help?」

I heard a voice.

「Huh?」

When she looked back, she saw a familiar man with a staff hanging on his shoulder―it was Eisen.[3]
