He had always thought that his sword skills were pathetic and it was even more apparent in this fight. Compared to his poor performance of basically stabbing and waving around, the others were so graceful and refined in their swings and counterattacks. Even Feng Ci, the one so pathetic that he wasn't able to slay one wolf most of the fight, was still able to unleash a cool sword flash after a burst of courage.
He had [Sword Mastery (Entry)] but it did not mean he was skilled in the sword. He was proficient enough to make his body react the way he wanted with the sword but he did not understand the intrinsicalities of the sword and it would be hard to progress more than his current level.
It was like a kick, after a few practices, you will be able to kick when you will so but kicking has its technique like when to kick, which way to kick, how to kick with the correct strength distribution. All of that makes a master in street fighting.
Not to mention, Nangong Xinyue who displayed exceptional performance in the battle, killing five wolves alone. Her graceful steps made her dodge all of the attacks and with each strike being fatal. She was the only one who was unscathed after the battle.
However, it would not be today that he would be able to train since it was almost the end of the day and it was time to return to his world.
...
After a good night of rest, Tang Ling finally woke up.
"Even after a few days, I am still not used to this strange sensation..." Tang Ling muttered.
One moment, he was active and running around fighting some monsters and the other, he felt a little sluggish but refreshed at the same time. It just feels weird. Not to mention that sleep is supposed to 'rest' to recover energy but all this time, he was too active. Even if it was somehow a dream, he should have not been so refreshed...
It only took a few seconds before the strange feeling pressing on his head disappeared and now, he was ready for another day.
After eating breakfast, he asked Tang f.u.xi to do the grocery and gave her twenty credits to do so.
"Hm?" his sister frowned as she looked at the pile of coins on the table, "Hey! That's too much, did you make the wrong calculation? I can't buy that much produce; it would rot the next week! Keep the ten credits, it's enough for now."
Tang Ling took a look at her and knew she was angry.
"I've got a harvest yesterday and got extra money to spend. 'Better spend it to get better food for us."
Tang f.u.xi gritted her teeth, "It's not how it works! The excess money should be spent on quality of life improvement and investment... Argghhh! Whatever! I'll do it!!!"
She angrily pocketed the money and sprinted to the door, opening and closing rapidly.
Tang Ling peeked his head to the side and shouted: "Don't forget to send my greetings to Boss Amin in my place!"
Bang!
"..." No response. Did she hear it or not?
Tang Ling shrugged. Whatever.
It was now time to get equipment!
There was two gathering equipment he had to get before going underneath. First, a pickaxe would be useful in extracting ores and a tempered and sterilized steel sickle which would enable him to harvest herbs without damaging it.
He should also be able to get a night vision goggle.
Tang Ling ate more quickly and finished his cereals under one minute.
After finis.h.i.+ng his breakfast, Tang Ling soon wore the Starry Eight-Dimension Traveller Cloth and went outside, directly going to the retrieval room next to the Hunter's a.s.sociation's building.
Inside, Tang Ling saw a pile of rubbish with plenty of rusty pickaxes and clumps of aluminum piling on each other. It seemed like the Ben George a.s.sociation was not doing their jobs but it worked in Tang Ling's way. It meant that he had a wider range to pick from.
Time to dive in!
...
...
After half an hour, Tang finally left the room with the items he found satisfactory: a rusty pickaxe and oxidized sickle.
[Rusty Steel Pickaxe (Trash)
Damage: 5 (x3 to ore)
Description: An ordinary steel pickaxe used extensively in a rough manner to dig ores. Still usable but can break at any time.]
[Ol' Sickle (Trash)
Damage: 3
Description: A sickle used to instantly cut plants and herbs without damaging them. Sadly, the sickle has been tainted with signs of oxidation which has begun to form...
Effect: Oxyded, can contaminate the herb.]
Tang Ling had to say; dumpster diving is really rewarding! The pickaxe was still quite good and was only halfway towards its life and the sickle was only slightly oxidized, a result of being unused for many years. A normal herb gathering sickle cost 300 credits thanks to herb gathering unions controlling the prices and so, gaining a sickle with only the tip being rusty for free is simply a bargain.
Then, he needed night goggles but he simply couldn't trust the ones found in the trash pile. Everything here was defective and even if a goggle in good condition was thrown here, it would be crushed since the parts composing it are delicate.
If he dropped the goggles to the ground, there was a 30-70 chance that it would be damaged.
So, he could only go to a general store to buy this night vision goggle for 100 credits.
As soon as his hands touch his new purchase, he immediately knew why it was so fragile.
"..."
It was basically made of plastic!
The infrared gla.s.ses were exposed, loosely attached to the main part of the equipment, and were made of cheap materials, making his vision a little blurrier than normal. Hunters who goes underground would need to put an extra care to protect lest it being damaged. He wouldn't be surprised if hunters went with two at a time, being so fragile that it was expendable...
Tang Ling sighed, feeling a little scammed. If possible, it would be cool to create his own 'home-made' goggles with more st.u.r.dy materials. However, that would only be possible if he had the time to study how night vision works and the required materials needed for this.
Tang Ling put everything in his [Inventory], a lesson that he paid dearly after carrying the Uruvian Bear's corpse like an idiot. and went outside to go to the small abode to cut down this Pauli's Root. This root would be an excellent ingredient after an indefinite amount of time but needed to be harvested right now!
Pauli's Root may be proven useless in the long run but he couldn't let any beasts eat it since its effects could be immediately digested after being consumed raw by beasts. This would make it evolve and become one of the focal points in the next Invasion!
