After a handful of minutes, we reached the top of the stairs and continued to walk until they stopped us.

Almost immediately, chills went down my spine and all the hairs on my body stood on end.

I was shoved to the ground by a werewolf behind me.

And at the sudden force, my left shoulder slammed painfully onto the floor when I fell forward without the use of my arms to catch myself.

Blindly, I raised my head only to have a heavy foot step onto the back of my neck and push me back down.

My jaw ground against the wooden flooring and I had to grit my teeth hard at the bout of pain that inflicted half of my face.

Tears threatened to spill but I swallowed it down with a choked grunt.

Fury built in my chest, heated and bitter.

I bit down hard on my tongue to keep myself from las.h.i.+ng out in rage.

If I did anything stupid, I would be the one hurting in the end.

It's not worth it, I told myself with shaky intakes of breath.

I hated the feeling of bowing in such a degrading manner in front of their Alpha.

It was upsetting and made me want to fight back until I couldn't anymore.

Yet the logical side of me, that valued life, knew how useless it was and how it would put me in an even worse position.

The next words they exchanged sounded muggy to me, drowned out by my own blinding anger and resent.

Tears of frustration wet my cheeks and the blindfold when the foot on my neck finally disappeared, leaving p.r.i.c.ks of pain still lingering behind.

"Kill them," a deep and masculine voice said, full of dominance and command. "Kill them the same way they killed Lucas."

From his authoritative demeanor and cold finality, I could only a.s.sume that this was their Alpha.

Only he would be able to decide our fate.

"Gladly, my Alpha," said Kent with a dark chuckle bubbling from his throat.

I cowered closer to the ground, wis.h.i.+ng there was someone to save us from this terribly cruel nightmare.

But I knew that there would be no savior.

There was never going to be a savior.

My legs were no longer capable of holding me up at hearing the news.

I felt like breaking down and crying like a baby but I knew that it was useless.

Both Amy and Asuka started to sob brokenly, their hiccups and silent wailing made me tear up from the hopelessness of the situation.

And all I could hear was white noise when they dragged us out by our hair.

No matter how numb I thought I was, I was still human.

We will die.

I will die.

Tears dripped down my face in rivulets when the blindfold was roughly yanked off of my head.

A light breeze tossed my bangs around and stuck to the sweat and tears on my face.

I opened my eyes.

The afternoon sun burned against my flesh and made me squint but I could the wide green forest before me.

We were outside.

And if I wasn't heading to my execution, I would have complimented on the beautiful scenery before me.

But sadly, this isn't a vacation of any kind.

Before I turn my head to look behind me, the scary slice of claws ran down my hands, completely cutting the lines that tied my numb wrists together.

I was rather thankful that he didn't cut my wrists open.

"Please just let us go!" Asuka pleaded.

Her face was bright red and her tears made her cheeks s.h.i.+ny and blotchy in an ethereal way.

I found myself just watching her entirely piteous wailing as if in a trance.

"Don't you plead so prettily? Did my brother also do the same when you experimented on him? When you killed him?" Kent snarled out the words, vicious and so very feral in all of his animalistic glory.

I was frozen in fear now.

My tears stopped a while ago with the rest of my sanity.

"Unlike what you did to my brother, I will give you the chance to run in the next 5 minutes. If you make it, you live. But, if I catch you, I will tear you limb from limb, devour your flesh and swallow your bones," Kent said.

His sharp canines glinted brightly from the sun while a wild smirk decorated his lips.

It was true that wolves liked to play with their food.

They enjoyed the chase and basked in the prey's suffering.

In the end, when the prey collapses from exhaustion, the wolves will bite and tear them apart in the most painful and gruesome of ways.

And, in this case, we are the prey.

The wolves are going to chase us, catch us, and then kill us.
