"Of course," Igor answered. "I completely support this initiative. If put all those stats in the hands of a single person, we will be able to distribute them among the best ones. Thus, we will form a small elite detachment that will consist of the strongest fighters, who will be capable of doing great things."
He was right to some extent. In this world, quality was better than quant.i.ty. If you cannot pierce a creature's skin, you won't be able to beat it, no matter how many people you have with you. If Petrovich were to help his most loyal henchmen max their stats out, he would be able to make some serious progress.
"And this is where Igor," theatrically groaning like an elder, Petrovich started playing his games, "convinced me that he is worthy to become one of the best fighters. He even states that he can cope with our strongest warrior. So I decided to call you. You won't refuse shatter our guest's illusions, will you?"
I finally got it. Igor came here not to make an alliance but to sell out his detachment. I wondered how many of his former subordinates' attributes points he would ask for. Cla.s.sic thirty or more? It was not hard to guess that Petrovich expected me to put our new ally in his place. It was inappropriate for our leader to get his hands dirty. And who was one of the winners of the recent tournament and also a dangerous and violent guy? Why, me, of course.
"Well, I don't see why not," I decided to help him out. Moreover, I felt an involuntary desire to ruin Igor's plans. For some reason, people who took responsibility for others and then calmly betrayed their trust, as if it was their property, annoyed me.
"Let's do it right now and not waste time," Petrovich grinned. "Have you changed your mind?"
Our guest didn't seem to be worried. And why would he be? I didn't look dangerous, and my level five against his level nineteen wasn't impressive at all. As for him, he managed to surprise me. He waved his hand and summoned his armor, a pair boots and pair of gloves, and a helmet out of his inventory. How did he keep all that in one slot? Everything was covered with thick steel plates. More importantly, I managed to see its description before he put the armor on.
Reinforced Cursed Steel Chainmail Set
Ordinary armor (set characteristics): 100
My entire gear has only fifteen defense. What the h.e.l.l? One has a super-lance, the other super-armor and all I have is c.r.a.p. Wonderful.
"Aren't you afraid that I'll kill you and steal that beautiful armor of yours?" I couldn't resist the urge to say that. People already thought that I am a psychopath who isn't afraid of anything, so these kinds of questions only helped maintain that image.
"No," Igor replied, unmoved by my question. "You cannot kill me quickly enough while I'm wearing this, and if anything happens, I can always hide it in my inventory. You saw how I summoned it; that won't be a problem. Maybe I tell you how to hide several things in one slot after we unite."
"What a secret!" the redhead snorted. "Everyone knows that items from a set occupy only one slot. What I am wondering about is where you found such a treasure."
"Let's start!" Igor decided not to answer. A small, makes.h.i.+ft arena had already been arranged in front of Petrovich's "house", and we were already surrounded by other camp dwellers. How did everyone learn that there was going to be a fight?
"Let's start!" He was so confident in his victory. Surprising him would bring me great pleasure. Although I could understand him. He had 100 defense from armor alone and he probably invested some points into endurance. He was sure that a level five player won't be able to break through his defense. I couldn't even imagine what Petrovich was expecting of me. He might've already asked the redhead about the armor's characteristics. All I knew was that he was smiling with satisfaction.
Whatever. I had to win no matter what. Flame Flow was able to deal with heavily armored opponents as it ignored armor. Arcobaleno would hide me from unnecessary attention.
I doubted that Igor was able to collect attributes as the same way Petrovich did. He would not have asked us to form a union if that was the case. Not everyone had a lance that could s.h.i.+eld them against the wrath of heavens. I was pretty sure that he managed to get only 36 stats points by now. Investing all of that into endurance would net him 460 HP. Other than that, he had 100 HP by default, and he had gotten 360 HP for his levels. If I was right, he must've had no more 920 HP.
Arcobaleno lasted for thirty seconds. Considering the current damage of my spells, I would have to increase my intelligence to 100 in order to deal with Igor during that time. Those herbs appeared just in time.
In the meantime, Igor was slowly heading toward me, highlighting the contrast of our figures. Mine was skinny and his was enormous, wearing new armor. Making a show for the public, huh? I'll see how you'll act after the fight.
Arcobaleno.

In order to paralyze the enemy, I used endurance I got from inhaling the fumes of the Stonerose. The opponent instantly froze. What a weakling, no magic defense. Then I breathed in some Cordyceps, increased my intelligence and used Flame Flow on his face. The damage was decreasing and increasing along with the bitter inhales. His health was going down but I was running out of time, which I had to spend on recasting paralysis. I had to succeed. I got lucky and managed to deal a couple of critical magic strikes right near the end.
I wondered how the fight looked in other people's eyes. I approached him, grabbed his face with my right hand, and then we froze. Despite all his coolness and armor, my opponent fell down onto the ground in a matter of thirty seconds, not having made a single blow.
The victory was mine. The corpse of our future ally was lying at my feet. His people won't say no after this and will accept all of our conditions.
I got new armor. It was so naive of him to think that he would manage to take it off. I quickly picked up my trophy and noticed Petrovich's irritated gaze. I significantly increased my chances of being eaten by his lance.
What's he gonna do?
