It was the time of midnight and pitch-black darkness engulfed the whole s.p.a.ce. Everyone was sleeping safe and sound in their homes. Only a few crickets seemed to be awake at this moment and started chirping to their heart's content.

Everything seemed to be normal but in Malhotra household, a strange phenomenon was starting to happen. There was a strange kind of light which was peeping out through the corners of the door of Ved's room.

Inside the room, there was a mysterious light glow which was flickering on the upper part of the body of Ved. To be precise, it was in the middle of his chest, located near his heart. There was no one to witness this strange occurrence.

Ved was in deep sleep when suddenly his countenance started to turn red. His body started to sweat profusely even in the air-conditioned room.

He felt severe pain all over the upper-frontal part of his body. His heart seemed as if it would burst apart from his chest at any moment. The pain was agonizing to bear. His eyes which were shut at that moment started to open as he grabbed on to his chest tightly in pain.

While writhing in severe pain, when he opened his eyes, Ved found himself lying in an open field under the clear bright sky. Shock stirred his mind as he looked around. He was sure that last night he slept on his bed inside his room but what happened, where was he? He couldn't recognize this place.

This place was the greenest place that he had ever seen in reality. As far as his eyes could see, the green gra.s.ses, plants, and trees covered the whole ground. It looked mesmerizing to his eyes.

It felt as if it had some kind of effect on him because the pain in his chest was starting to slowly disappear.

Ved was confused. However hard he tried to remember, he couldn't recognize this place. As far as he could remember, he had never visited such kind of a place. This place didn't seem real. It seemed as if it had come out of some kind of painting.

Wherever he tried to look, only plants and trees entered his vision. Not a single living creature could be spotted in that area. It was as if this was some green desert and somehow he ended-up right in the center of it.

Ved was trying his best to control his riled up emotions. He knew that getting anxious about a situation won't yield any solution. He decided to walk until he got out of this seemingly endless green desert. He started strolling in the opposite direction of the rising sun.

Sun was at its peak when Ved decided to rest for a while. He was wandering for a long time now. He started walking in the morning and gradually noon came but he still hadn't been able to find a way out of this seemingly never-ending desert. He was exhausted.

Ved leaned himself on a nearby tree. His throat seemed dry at the moment. He was thirsty for a while now. He realized that he hadn't eaten or drunk anything since morning. His stomach started growling.

The issue of hunger could've been solved if the trees that he saw bore any fruits. But there was not a single fruit which he found on those trees. They were all just barren trees which only provided shelter in that blazing sun, nothing else.

Ved decided that he could endure being hungry for a while longer but he needed something to drink straightaway. The limit for controlling his thirst had already been crossed by him a long time ago.

To look for a water source, he climbed onto the tree that he was leaning on and started looking around.

The tree was high enough to give him a panoramic view of a much longer area. Suddenly his eyes lit up. He finally found someone living in this seemingly endless green desert.

There seemed to be a cottage made up of straws towards the north. If there was a cottage then someone must be living there. He just had to go up to that cottage and he could ask him how to get out of this place. His parents must be getting worried sick about him.

His lips curved slightly upwards as Ved climbed down the tree and started walking towards the cottage.

After a few moments, he arrived in front of that cottage. The cottage seemed to be made up of wood that had degraded over a long period of time. It felt as if it would fall right at this moment.

Ved halted his footsteps right outside the cottage and called out in a loud voice.

"Is there anyone inside?"

"h.e.l.lo….anybody home?" After getting no response at his first call, Ved tried to ask again, yet still, there was no kind of reply at all. It seemed as if there was no one inside the cottage.

Ved decided to knock on the door when suddenly a screeching sound emerged as the door opened on its own from inside. He took two steps back in surprise but in the next instant, curiosity got the better of him as he leaned a little forward and tried to look inside the room.

Ved scanned the whole area inside with his two eyes. He was hoping to find someone indoor but to his misfortune, there was no one within the house as well. The inside of the house was just as he expected it to be, a total wreck.

The ceiling had big and wide holes in them by which anyone can spot the blazing sun even from inside. The walls looked as if they'll come cras.h.i.+ng down at any moment now. The cottage was in debris.

'Who would want to live in these kinds of ruins? It must be an abandoned house.' The sliver of hope which gave him the strength to hold on was now starting to fade away. His face fell as he turned his gaze around and tried to move away from the door. But then, suddenly a gush of wind came from nowhere and pushed Ved forward.

Ved's balance was on both of his hands as he put them on the walls beside the door and was looking inside. But when he was trying to move away from the door his balance was neither on his foot nor his hands. It was somewhere in between and when the gush of the wind came cras.h.i.+ng towards his back, his balance broke and he was forced to take few steps forward in his stride.

Because of that unusually extreme flow of wind, Ved had entered inside the cottage unknowingly. He felt that it was rude to enter someone else's house without their permission even if it's abandoned so without wasting any more of his time he was going to leave this place. He still needed to search for a water source.

Ved turned himself around and was going to leave this cottage when suddenly both flaps of the door slammed into each other and the entrance was closed shut in front of him. Ved ran towards the door and tried opening it from the inside but he couldn't.

The inside of the cottage was getting darker and darker by the pa.s.sing seconds. In a few seconds, it would become pitch black and Ved would still be trapped inside.

He started throwing punches on the door as he shouted his lungs out.

"h.e.l.lo! Somebody...…here's someone trapped inside the room." "Help me!" Ved started panicking and pleading while the darkness swallowed the whole area.

He never showed any kind of reaction even when he faced those weapon-wielding thugs but whenever he found himself alone in a pitch dark situation, his heart would start racing wildly and a strange kind of nervousness would fill up his mind. The calmness disappeared from his countenance.

Ved was starting to get scared of the situation. As the seconds pa.s.sed, he would beat the flaps of the door even harder than before. He had extrordinary strength which he used often while helping others but at this moment when he needed help, it seemed as if his whole strength was no use to him. He couldn't even open a torn-up door of a d.a.m.ned rotten cottage.

He was getting restless by the pa.s.sing seconds when suddenly.

"Who dared to wake me up from my sleep?" A thunderous roar reverberated through the whole s.p.a.ce.
