The weather was great and there was little traffic; it was such a good day.
Yet, Hyuk's mood could not be worse.
He glared at the guard who was skittishly watching over him, flinching at every move he made. It was fun to tease the idiot, but he didn't dare to push his luck since the guy was armed to the teeth. Stun guns, batons, handguns, bulletproof vest—he came with the whole repertoire.
It was somewhat obvious that he was a new recruit judging by how scared he was of Hyuk. How could he not be scared? He was just a simple officer who was sent to escort a criminal to the facility. But there were two problems—one, he was inexperienced in handling prisoners. Two, the criminal he was escorting was a f*cking murderer!
The guard could not help but shake his legs in fear. Pity him for being the only officer available for duty on a public holiday.
Yes, that was right.
While everybody else were busy celebrating Seollal, he was stuck escorting a new prisoner.
The new guy looked extremely unfriendly, his glare looking as if it could kill anyone with a single blink.
"W-we're here," the officer cleared his throat just as the truck stopped.
Hyuk was pushed out, his hands cuffed to prevent him from escaping easily.
The man held him closely, making sure he wouldn't suddenly try to run away while being transferred to the checkpoint.
After pa.s.sing him off to the registration officers, the guard quickly washed his hands off of Hyuk and ran away as if a dog was chasing him, causing the registration officers as well as the criminals waiting in the area to laugh and jeer at him.
Hyuk patiently waited for his turn. Inwardly, though, he was like a bomb waiting to explode. He looked as normal as a normal Hyuk could get, but he was one nasty glare away from breaking someone's bones.
After undergoing the rather dehumanising process of checking in, Hyuk was finally changed into a prisoner's jumpsuit and carrying his necessities with him as he was led to his a.s.signed cell.
There were five people per cell and his cell already had four people. He was the last member.
"You're going to live here from now on. It doesn't matter if you don't like it; who told you to be a f*cking criminal, huh?" The security guard jeered as he unlocked Hyuk's handcuffs.
After months of constantly getting cuffed up, Hyuk's wrists had faint marks and scarring. He rubbed his sore wrists lightly, thinking that it was one less thing to worry about.
"Oi, you losers, listen up! This here is your new playmate. Take 'good' care of him, y'hear?" The security guard smirked, banging his baton on the barred window.
After the guard left, Hyuk finally had the time to relax and observe his cellmates.
Three of them looked like real crooks, and the last one looked like a treacherous businessman.
"Oi, I heard you got in here for murder?" The toughest-looking among the four asked probingly. He was also in jail for murder so he wondered how much pressure he should use to keep the boy under his thumb.
Hyuk merely glanced at him before looking away, lazily sitting up with his back leaning against the wall.
"Oi! Didn't you hear me?! I'm talking to you, you little b*tch!" The big guy stood up to his full height, intending to intimidate the young man. Delinquents like Hyuk who looked like they got on the wrong path at a young age were usually stubborn but would easily falter under intimidation.
Feeling an itch in his eardrums thanks to the dumb oaf's loud voice, Hyuk clicked his tongue, glaring at him. His anger was reaching its peak and crowded every inch of his body, making him feel extremely bloodthirsty. His fingers twitched as if he wanted to curl them up and punch the b*stard into oblivion.
He was already incredibly short-tempered and sensitive thanks to that incident, and yet this dumb*ss was trying to pick a fight? He was holding back since he didn't want to jeopardise his visitation rights, but he was a hair strand away from losing his sh*t.
"F*ck off," he spat out.
"What? What did you say? Oi, you little b*stard, what kind of eyes are you looking at me with, huh?!" The guy was instantly angered by Hyuk's glaring eyes and rude words. Unable to hold himself back, he launched himself to the newcomer first.
"Ah, there he goes again," one of the other cellmates muttered.
"His temper is so bad, I pity the new guy," the one next to him said.
However, contrary to what they thought, Hyuk easily dodged the man's attack. The man did not give up; he continued to taunt and lunge at the newcomer.
"There's a guy who's been on the news for killing his dad who slept with his sister. Was that you? Wow, that's so f*cked up! I wonder what it feels like to sleep with your own daughter—"
"F*cking—" Hyuk's face twisted lividly. After that incident, Hyuk was like a cornered beast. He had so much suppressed baleful anger that he did not know where they came from and what he should do to calm himself down. Since the man had offered himself up to be a punching bag, Hyuk did not hold back.
He punched his opponent straight at his solar plexus, causing him to widen his eyes in surprise.
"Huuk—!" The man wheezed.
Hyuk grabbed the man's lower jaw with his other hand, pus.h.i.+ng him down to the ground. With his opponent stunned and locked in place, he unhesitatingly pummelled the living sh*t out of him.
"F*cking piece of sh*t!" Hyuk cursed.
The guards heard the commotion, and soon enough, Hyuk was taken away.
On the first day of serving his sentence, Hyuk was already sent to solitary confinement.
