Chapter 25: Abandoned Hospital (9)
Cheng Zhi Chu held the bear and watched it cling onto his finger while softly calling him "mummy". His expression was like he was thunderstruck and for a long time he couldn't speak.
"You………"
After a while, he managed to find his voice but there was still a hint of a tremble in it: "You can talk?"
And it had also called him "mummy" ………. That itself is not a problem but why is it calling Bai Yi "daddy"?! This can easily lead to misunderstandings okay……?!
The bear blinked a few times and let out a soft whine. It nodded its head but this time it didn't speak. It seems like it couldn't speak very fluently. It may even have some sort of restrictions to it only allowing it to speak in special circ.u.mstances.
"Ah……..That's great. You're so clever."
Cheng Zhi Chu awkwardly praised it. He looked up and saw the small smile on Bai Yi's face. He looked seemingly pleased by the bear. Seeing that smile, he couldn't help but feel his face warm up.
Fortunately, Bai Yi isn't angry……. Anyway, even if he hates gays, he wasn't someone that would go out of his way to get angry at a clueless bear. But it's still so awkward……. This won't do. He must quickly correct Pinecone. He can't let it continue calling them those names.
"You can call me by my name or "master". If you really can't then you can call me "daddy."" Cheng Zhi Chu cleared his throat and spoke to the bear seriously. "As for that person, you can call him "Uncle Bai"."
"………" The bear looked at them for a moment like it seemingly understood his words and then it quickly turned over to Cheng Zhi Chu and called out, "Mummy!"
Cheng Zhi Chu: "…….."
Cheng Zhi Chu: "……..No. Call me daddy."
Bear: "Mummy! Mummy!"
Cheng Zhi Chu: "Pinecone, listen to me. Call me daddy!"
Bear: "Mummy~"
Cheng Zhi Chu: "……." Why does it sound more and more wrong the more it says it??
He threatened the bear: "No. It's daddy, not mummy. If you continue to say the wrong thing daddy will…..daddy won't buy you fried chicken!"
The bear immediately looked over at Bai Yi with teary eyes. It pleaded: "Daddy, I want to eat fried chicken……."
Cheng Zhi Chu: "………." f.u.c.k. Why won't it correct itself? They didn't mention anything like this in the side effects!
"Be good. You'll get them."
The handsome man raised the corner of his lips and smiled at the bear and Cheng Zhi Chu. It was warm and gentle like the spring breeze, completely opposite to his previously cold and dark look.
"……..Forget it. Let's just leave it."
Cheng Zhi Chu supported his forehead and gave up correcting the bear.
Seeing that it couldn't be corrected now, it looks like he would need to wait until later. Anyway, as long as Bai Yi isn't angered, nothing else mattered.
However, he couldn't help but find it strange. The bear seemed to be somewhat afraid of Bai Yi. He suddenly recalled the bear telling Bai Yi to "not kill it". Why would it think that Bai Yi would want to kill it?
He couldn't help but ask the bear: "Are you afraid of Bai Yi? Why? Is he very scary?"
"Wu………."
The bear trembled and it quietly glanced over at Bai Yi. Bai Yi responded to it with a smile. It suddenly shook its tail and thought for a while before explaining weakly.
"Earlier scared……be-because it is said that fathers are strict, and mothers are kind so I thought that daddy would be very fierce………"
Cheng Zhi Chu: "………." Ok, he understands. He shouldn't have asked that question.
Ji Yun Xiao pursed his lips and watched the scene unfold before him. After a moment, he wordlessly walked over to the incomplete corpse of the man-eating monster and picked up the key from one of its limbs.
Da Gao's body laid to one side of it. His blood had cooled down and it had dried into a dark red stain. Ji Yun Xiao looked at it for a while with red eyes and a few drops of tears fell silently. With his fingers trembling slightly, he reached out to take off Da Gao's b.l.o.o.d.y tie and he silently stored it away.
"Xiao Xiao…."
The Meng sisters watched on in distress, but they didn't know what they should do to comfort him. Cheng Zhi Chu's mood also became heavy. Ji Yun Xiao quickly wiped away his tears and stood back up again.
He gave Da Gao one final look and gave him a deep bow. He then turned around and gave the others a faint smile. With a low voice that was a little hoa.r.s.e he said: "……….Let's go."
The Meng sisters and Cheng Zhi Chu were all a little depressed and sad. Only Bai Yi remained calm. There was even a small hint of darkness in his eyes as his gaze briefly swept over Ji Yun Xiao before he moved to walk out the room.
The others restored their moods and similarly left the bathroom after him. They headed over to the mortuary that was pointed out by the clues which, at the same time, lead them to the underground pa.s.sage joining the outpatient and inpatient departments.
The bear climbed into Cheng Zhi Chu's s.h.i.+rt pocket and only revealed its small head. With its small round eyes, it glanced around as they walked while smacking its lips seemingly like it had not eaten its fill yet and was looking around for more food.
Cheng Zhi Chu still faintly remembered the way to the mortuary. They returned to the first floor and found the door leading underground. The entrance to the underground pa.s.sage was very concealed and required taking two turns down the staircase to find it. Perhaps it was deliberately done so to avoid others from finding it and getting scared.
After going down about a floor's depth, a hard and thick steel door stood before them. The silver stainless steel plate reflected the light from their flashlights causing a pale white reflection. From the door you could feel a faint chill emanating.
"This place………seems a bit cold."
Meng Xin rubbed her arms and felt a little chilly. Perhaps it was because it is underground, so the temperature was a bit lower but in this eerily dark environment, it felt particularly cold.
Before Ji Yun Xiao inserted the key, Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly remembered the ghost stories that he had heard before. His expression changed slightly, and he spoke up to remind them.
"Be careful after you go in. There might be something here………the 'red clothed female corpse'."
Cheng Zhi Chu did his best to recall the information that the system had given him and said:
"When I was hospitalised, I heard about some ghost stories that was circulating around the hospital. The one earlier was the 'man-eating monster in the sewer' and there was another two which was the 'red clothed female corpse in the mortuary' and 'the invisible ninth floor of the inpatient department'."
The two sisters heard this and nodded nervously while tightening their grips around the weapons in their hands. Bai Yi stood behind them a.s.sessing the door. Not knowing what came across his mind, he revealed a small smile that had a hint of coldness within.
Ji Yun Xiao inserted the key and turned the lock. With a bit of strength, he pulled open the thick and heavy door and it let out a loud dull sound.
"Groan………"
Strange air surged out from the inside. A cold and musky air that had a strange smell to it rushed out. It was like the smell of something slowly decaying causing many of them to retch in disgust.
"Pa———-pa, pa………"
The moment the door opened, something very strange happened.
The lights in the underground pa.s.sage lit up one after another. In the narrow pa.s.sage, darkness gradually disappeared and pale light reflected off the smooth concrete floor as well as the cabinets on both sides.
Sitting on both sides of the walls were rows of freezer cabinets used to store dead bodies. The cabinets reflected a cold metallic l.u.s.tre, and most of the doors were closed. Several of them were opened and the cabinets were half pulled out and suspended in mid-air.
This kind of setting made Cheng Zhi Chu feel uncomfortable. He looked over at the rows of cabinets and couldn't help but feel like there was something hiding inside waiting to jump out the moment they approached it.
If he could. Cheng Zhi Chu really didn't want to get close to those freezers, but he also knows that it was impossible to avoid it.
If he wanted to go out through the other door in the mortuary, he would need to find the other key. They didn't manage to find any clues about it earlier so the key must be hidden somewhere in the mortuary.
Meng Xin's face was also faintly pale. She and Cheng Zhi Chu looked at each other and they both activated their clue prompt skill. There was a total of three lights and, unsurprisingly, two of them came from within the freezer cabinets and one came from an old public telephone hanging from the wall.
"Then, since it's like this………."
Cheng Zhi Chu thought for a moment and said: "Meng Ke and Meng Xin can form a team with Yun Xiao. I will be a team with Bai Yi. We will separate and look for clues but be careful of those cabinets."
The two sisters bit onto the lips and nodded. Together with Ji Yun Xiao, they walked over to a cabinet on one side and Cheng Zhi Chu and Bai Yi went to the other.
Fortunately, the cabinet that had emitted light was located at the very end. After confirming that there wasn't anything dangerous next to the cabinet, Cheng Zhi Chu knelt down and began to examine it.
The first thing that he noticed was the card that was in the card slot on the cabinet door. The words on it were still legible and it recorded the name of the person who had pa.s.sed away.
【Xie Yuan Huai, Male, 23 years old.】
This name……..
Cheng Zhi Chu's eyes widened slightly. For some reason, he felt that the name seemed a little familiar but when he looked at the time when the body was stored, he saw that it was from more than a decade ago. He was also certain that he didn't see a name like this in the list of the fatalities from the elevator accident.
During his stay at the hospital, he had never been to the mortuary and he didn't remember anyone mentioning this name so why does it sound so familiar……….?
At this moment, Cheng Zhi Chu seemed to hear the voice that had been constantly calling out to him in his mind. This time he heard it even more clearly. The voice seemed to be closer to him and he could clearly tell that the voice belonged to a young man. The sound rang next to his ear and it called out his name with a voice filled with deep attachment and gentle like a soft dream-like whisper. Several degrees of shock flitted through Cheng Zhi Chu's eyes. He couldn't help but reach over to pull the card out of the slot and hold it tightly in his hands. At this moment, a bunch of illusions appeared before his eyes. Fragmented scenes flitted through along with a mixture of strange sounds, colours, light and shadows. It converged then separated and the remaining parts mixed together and overlapped to form a faint figure of a person. Under the bright sun, that figure stood against the light so you couldn't see his true appearance. You could only see that he was wearing a white and loose patient gown and vaguely the lower half of his face. His jawline was soft and beautiful, and his neck was pale and clear to the point that it looked slightly transparent. The pale lips opened slightly, and it called out his name with a hint of a smile. "Yuan……." Cheng Zhi Chu's eyes widened. He subconsciously called out. "…….Brother Yuan Huai." "RIIING———–" The s.h.i.+ll ring from the telephone sounded abruptly, breaking the dead silence in the mortuary and surprising the Meng sisters and Ji Yun Xiao. The three of them looked over at the public telephone on the wall with dread. "Wu…….!" The moment the phone rang, the bear in Cheng Zhi Chu's pocket suddenly shrank itself and started to tremble. It looked extremely scared. It plunged its head into the depths of his pocket and only revealed its fluffy backside and its trembling tail. "Zhi Chu." Bai Yi's eyes were deep and dark, and his expression was as cold as ice. He reached out to Cheng Zhi Chu's shoulder and gently called out to him, but Cheng Zhi Chu continued to remain in daze while softly mumbling something. "Ring————ring—————-" The phone continued to ring. It was as if it would continue to ring if no one picked it up. Bai Yi sneered a little. He lifted Cheng Zhi Chu up and brought him over to the phone. He then picked up the phone, but he didn't bring it over to his ear and just held it in the air. "Zi……..Zizi……………" After the phone was picked up, there was a faint sound of electricity coming from inside the phone. Bai Yi held the phone and listened on without speaking a word. After a while, the sound of electricity weakened and something else could be heard from within. "………..Xiao Chu." "My Xiao Chu………." "You're finally……….back." "You're finally……….back to see me." "Are you done?" Bai Yi sneered. With a look of disgust, he returned to phone back to the hook and hung up the phone. He looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu next to him. That lovely and cute face of his continued to maintain a look of confusion. It was as if he was immersed inside some kind of memory and he continued to grip tightly onto Xie Yuan Huai's name card in his hand. Bai Yi stretched his hand over and gently pried away his fingers from the card. The card fell to the ground, but Bai Yi didn't go to pick it up. The handsome man lowered his eyes and his eyelashes obscured his dark pupils. With his thumb, he rubbed the centre of Cheng Zhi Chu's palm. At the beginning, it was very gentle, but it gradually become stronger and stronger until the centre of his palm had turned a soft pink. But he still didn't have any hint of a smile on his face. His eyes became more and more oppressive. He eventually lifted Cheng Zhi Chu's hand and dropped a soft kiss onto Cheng Zhi Chu's palm. "Be good." The man gently kissed as dark aura emanated from his body. From between his thin lips, a faint whisper was heard. "Don't touch those dirty things." Bai Yi's Diary (Part 25) Don'ttouchhim, don'ttouchhim, don'ttouchhim————- No matter who you are, no one can touch him. Don't get close to him. Don't even think about him. He's mine only.
