Chapter 27: Abandoned Hospital (11)

Cheng Zhi Chu stared at the silver coin in his hand with a stiff expression. For a long time, he didn't speak. It was as if he had received a major blow.

The Meng sisters watching on the side didn't understand this reaction of his. They asked curiously: "This should be a weapon, right? What's wrong? Is its' property bad? What's its practical level?"

"…………It's A." Cheng Zhi Chu replied after a moment of silence.

"A?"

The two sisters exclaimed in a small voice. The eyes that looked at the silver coin had completely changed. Their own weapons were only of C level and they were both something that they had received from the beginner's package.

Level A weapons are like similar levelled abilities and cursed items and are very rare. If you didn't get it through the lottery and want to try to synthesize one using weapon fragments, it would require at least a thousand fragments or more. To collect enough weapon fragments, it would require a lot of time.

If they were to get an A levelled weapon, they would probably have a gigantic smile on their faces even while they're sleeping so they couldn't understand why Cheng Zhi Chu would have such a grim expression.

Was there something wrong with this weapon? Indeed, coin style weapons are rare. Perhaps it is something that is inconvenient to use or maybe it's because it has many restrictions……

The two sisters quietly made their guesses, but they didn't move to ask any further questions. After all, this is a private matter and outsiders shouldn't try to probe too much.

Cheng Zhi Chu looked speechlessly at the silver coin for a moment. He then decided to act as if nothing had happened and just directly throw the silver coin into his bag.

He naturally also knew about how rare and precious A levelled weapons are. Even with the help of the luck potion, it was almost impossible to synthesize one with only one hundred weapon fragments. If this had happened before he had attempted the lottery, he definitely wouldn't believe that such a thing would happen to him.

But when he got the Joker's Coin and he felt the faint hint of twisted wickedness and temptation coming from it, he came to an understanding. Only someone like him would be able to be so "lucky".

It's not because he is very lucky. It was the complete opposite. It's because he's too unlucky; the type that couldn't even be counteracted by luck potions, that he couldn't even get a normal weapon that he could use to protect himself and instead got a problematic weapon with properties similar to a cursed item.

If a normal person was to use the Joker's Coin and if they used a luck potion on top of that, they would probably have a 70 or 80 percent chance of throwing a clown's face but if he was the one to use it………he probably won't be able to see what the clown's face looks like in his entire lifetime.

And the most terrible thing about this silver coin was the fact that if you threw the devil's face, you would be riddled with misfortune. Every time you throw the coin, the chance of getting the devil's side would not simply be a 50:50 chance. The more you throw it, the greater the chance of getting the devil's face.

If you threw it obsessively, it would most likely lead to a vicious cycle. Furthermore, ten consecutive appearances of the devil's face would lead to the collapse of the instance. Although it may sound unlikely, when combined with how unlucky he is, it is something that is very likely to happen.

Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu couldn't help but shudder.

Maybe the throws won't even be throws performed by the holder themselves. It's likely that it may be because they tripped and fell, and the coin would roll onto the devil's side on its own ten times in a row.

What's more, this silver coin also had a very strange power that entices and allures the holder to throw and use it. Even if there is a risk of being doomed with misfortune, they wouldn't stop and would instead become more and more crazily obsessed to the point that they would entrust everything to the coin.

However, there wasn't any change to Cheng Zhi Chu's mood when he held this coin. Even when he stored the coin away, he continued to remain expressionless.

He was very aware of how dark his expression must be at this very moment. It was like his heart was dead and he didn't feel any temptations in his heart.

After storing the coin away, Cheng Zhi Chu and Bai Yi once again returned to the freezer cabinet. Because they were preoccupied by Xie Yuan Huai's name card earlier, they had not yet opened the cabinet and investigated it.

As for the cabinet that Ji Yun Xiao and the others were supposed to check, they had already confirmed that it was the same cabinet that the red-clothed female corpse had climbed into and the very same cabinet in which the bear had retrieved the key from.

"I'll open it."

Bai Yi gave Cheng Zhi Chu a smile and asked him to step back before he slowly pulled open the cabinet door so that there was a small gap.

Cheng Zhi Chu's heart tensed up as he feared that something would happen but fortunately nothing happened throughout the entire process of Bai Yi opening the cabinet.

"Creeaaak————-"

Bai Yi's eyes looked down inside the cabinet and he pulled at it until about half of it was revealed when his movements suddenly stopped. The fingers holding onto the handle tightened and his expression also turned dark.

"What's wrong?"

Cheng Zhi Chu and the others came over and looked inside the cabinet. When they looked in, they were all stunned. The Meng sisters looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu and saw that his face was completely pale.

[Xiao Chu.]

[Xiao Chu.]

[Xiao Chu, Xiao Chu….]

[Cheng Zhi Chu……..]

There was nothing inside, but it was covered in dark red words. Like it was written with a finger coated in fresh blood, the inside was densely covered in Cheng Zhi Chu's name.

Some of the writings were neat and clear, others were crooked and messy. There were a few that had a faint tremor in it, like it was written onto the cabinet while the writer was in extreme agony. If you looked closer, you could even see that some of them were engraved into the cabinet and there were faint nail scratches next to it.

"My G.o.d……….."

The Meng sisters felt goose b.u.mps form all over their body. It was just too scary.

"Don't look."

Bai Yi said in a low voice and then closed the cabinet. His eyes emitted icy cold light.

He looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu who appeared to be a little scared. He reached out and rubbed his head before softening his voice and saying: "Don't worry. Don't be scared."

"………..Okay."

To what extent is Xie Yuan Huai obsessed about him……

Cheng Zhi Chu's nodding gesture was a little stiff, but it wasn't completely because of the names written inside the cabinet. A part of it was also because Bai Yi's hand was on his head. It made him think back to the earlier incident when his heart started to race because of Bai Yi and he once again felt guilty.

Don't think about it. It's no big deal. He's just a little embarra.s.sed because he isn't used to being so intimate with Bai Yi. If it was someone else, he would also react the same way.

Besides, they are two very straight men. So what if he kissed his hand? Even if they kissed they…….f.u.c.k. That's not right. That's a big deal………..

These thoughts flashed through Cheng Zhi Chu's mind. He shook his head and quickly dispelled these ridiculous thoughts.

With no other significant things left in the mortuary, Cheng Zhi Chu and the others pa.s.sed through the rows and rows of freezer cabinets and walked over to the other exit of the underground pa.s.sage.

Cheng Zhi Chu had the key for this door in his possession, so he took out the key, inserted it and slowly pushed the door open.

It was very dark outside. He turned on his flashlight and carefully stuck his head out and looked around. The other end of this pa.s.sage should be the inpatient department.

The area that was illuminated by the flashlight revealed a narrow set of steps. Zhi Chu guessed that the layout of it should be similar to those of the outpatient department. After going out, they should be on the first floor of the inpatient department.

Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu held onto his flashlight and took a step out onto the smooth tiled floor. At this moment, he suddenly heard a 'pa' and the light above his head suddenly lit up illuminating his surroundings.

"This, this place is……"

Meng Ke's voice trembled a little and it could be heard coming from behind Cheng Zhi Chu.

Cheng Zhi Chu felt that something wasn't right. Earlier, the person that was closest to him should be Bai Yi and Meng Ke was a little further away but now her voice seemed to be too close, like she was standing right next to him.

He subconsciously glanced behind him, and his eyes instantly widened before he quickly turned completely around.

Meng Ke looked around her. She was originally quite uneasy and, after seeing Cheng Zhi Chu look over in her direction with a shocked expression, she couldn't help but look next to her only to see that her sister had disappeared. Even Bai Yi and Ji Yun Xiao were nowhere in sight!

"Where's Xin Xin and the others?"

Meng Ke's face was pale, and her entire body started to tremble: "Also, this place- It doesn't seem like the place we were in earlier…….."

Cheng Zhi Chu also noticed that this place wasn't the stairwell that they saw earlier. Instead, it was a long corridor.

The corridor was dimly lit and there were some beds and wheelchairs scattered about. On both sides were wards and several of the doors were open revealing its pitch-black interior. At a location further away from them was the waiting area for the elevator. Just above the elevator, was a sign that was clearly labelled "F9".

He and Meng Ke had unexpectedly entered the mysterious ninth floor of the inpatient department!

The blood in Cheng Zhi Chu's body went cold. At this moment, the ring on his finger suddenly got hotter and the bear in his pocket bared its teeth at the elevator while letting out a low snarl.

"Clack, clack…….Ding————–"

The elevators floor indicator suddenly started to move. After skipping through a few numbers, it eventually stopped at '9' before the elevator stopped. The door opened and over a dozen nurses walked out from within the elevator.

The nurses were all neatly dressed but their white nurses' gowns were stained with blood. Their faces were featureless, like smooth marble, and long chains hung from their necks. The chains dragged across the ground and connected them together such that they are all bounded as a group.

The nurse at the front pushed a small trolley with various bottles and jars filled with strange dark-red liquids as well as a tangled mess of infusion tubes.

"Why are you here? It's late, why aren't you back in your own wards?"

The nurses that didn't have any facial features rushed over to Cheng Zhi Chu and Meng Ke. Their chests reverberated a little and it let out young female voices. There however were no ups and downs to their tones and everyone's voices sounded exactly the same. It was as if they were all the same and was just replicated multiple times.

"Hiss!"

The bear hissed fiercely at them, and suddenly jumped out of Cheng Zhi Chu's pocket. It threw itself at the head nurse, but the nurse's body was like an illusion and it just directly pa.s.sed through her. It fell to the ground and tumbled around a few times.

"Let me check your names."

The head nurse was completely unaffected by the bear. She bowed her head down, opened the roster and her pale finger slid down the paper.

"Your name is…….Cheng Zhi Chu."

"Turns out, Zhi Chu is back. Welcome back to Guang Ai Hospital."

"After not seeing you for a while, you've grown up. If 'he' saw this, he would definitely be very happy."

"Murmur……murmur, murmur……"

The nurses' bodies leaned forward slightly. It was as if everyone was trying to take a look at Cheng Zhi Chu and indecipherable speech could be heard coming from their chest.

"Since you're back, I should give you back the thing that you've entrusted the hospital."

The head nurse took out a dirty medical record and gently dropped it into Cheng Zhi Chu's arms.

【Discovered a clue. You gain 50 experience points and 100 survival points.】

Cheng Zhi Chu stiffly accepted it but, before he had the chance to go through it, he saw that the head nurse had once again open the roster and was scanning through it. She seemingly a.s.sessed Meng Ke's appearance for a while before looking down at the roster again.

After a few seconds, she suddenly raised her head. With a tone that was cold and had no hint of human emotions, she asked:

"Who are you?"

"Your name is not on the roster."

"You don't belong here."

Meng Ke's expression changed slightly, and she couldn't help but take a step back. Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly had a very bad feeling. He grabbed her hand intending to run but the nurses behind the head nurse suddenly rushed over and used their chains to trip Meng Ke. They then tightened it around her ankle and directly dragged her over on the ground.

"Meng Ke!"

Cheng Zhi Chu was also being pressed down in the same place by the head nurse. He watched Meng Ke be grabbed by her ankles and dragged across to the elevator.

"Ah, no——-!"

Meng Ke was terrified. She screamed and cried desperately and scratched at the ground struggling to get out of the nurses' grasp.

Her body was pulled across little by little and her mutilated fingertips left a fresh b.l.o.o.d.y trail behind. She was completely unable to stop the nurses and, little by little, she neared the elevator.

The small bear leapt amongst the nurses, but they were all like spirits and, no matter what it did, it couldn't touch them. Again, and again, it could only fall onto the ground and snarl at the nurses.

……..No. I can't let her die like this!

At this critical moment, Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly remembered the silver coin that he had received earlier. He didn't give much of a thought to the chance of himself inflicting misfortune to himself when the coin appeared in his hand. He quickly threw it into the air and said in haste:

"Eliminate the nurses that has captured Meng Ke!"

"s.h.i.+ng———-Ding!"

The silver coin formed a silver-white arc in the air. Along with a crisp sound, it fell to the ground, spun around a few times before finally stopping in place.

It was the joker's side.

[As you wish………]

A ghostly whisper could be heard in Cheng Zhi Chu's mind.

The next minute, strange music started to play in the corridor and there was also the sound of a clown laughing out loud. With a 'pa', the bodies of the nurse that was holding onto Meng Ke's ankle suddenly started to twist and morph into a colourful ball.

"Pa!" "Pa!"

This was then followed by several consecutive sounds and the four nurses closest to Meng Ke suddenly collapsed and transformed into playing cards and colourful ribbons which slowly fell to the ground. It looked just like a curtain call after a clown's performance.

Now with five nurses fewer, the chains around the other nurses' necks also fell.

They touched their empty necks with a look of confusion. After a while, they looked over at Cheng Zhi Chu and the head nurse. Reverberations at their chest grew bigger and bigger and, filled with grief and resentment, they immediately rushed over to the head nurse while letting out sharp cries.

The head nurse froze for a moment before pus.h.i.+ng Cheng Zhi Chu away and then running away without looking back for a single moment. Those nurses didn't pay any attention to the two living humans and just continued to chase after the head nurse. Soon, they disappeared in the distance along with the fading sounds of their cries.

"Huff, huff………..wu………."

Meng Ke laid on the floor gasping for air. Her eyes were filled with tears and she still had not yet recovered from the shock from earlier.

"Are you okay?"

Cheng Zhi Chu picked up the silver coin and helped support the weak Meng Ke up over to one of the seats in the corridor. Meng Ke's shoulders shuddered as she wept. With red eyes, she spoke unsteadily: "Thank, thank you for saving me……..If it weren't for you, I would've already….."

"It's okay. Don't be scared. We will definitely leave this place alive."

Cheng Zhi Chu gently patted her head and spoke to her in a warm and comforting tone. Doing this, it reminded him of his own little sister. They are after all around the same age.

He reached into his pocket but unfortunately couldn't find anything that could be used like a napkin. He could only just say a few more words of comfort.

"Wu….."

The bear climbed up Cheng Zhi Chu's leg and revealed a regretful expression as if it was blaming itself for not being much help.

"You already did great!" Cheng Zhi Chu held up the bear and said with a grin, "When we leave this instance, I'll give you five more pieces of fried chicken and let you eat your fill!"

"Ao~" The bear was instantly elated.

Meng Ke sat on the chair with her head slightly bowed. Her sobs gradually became smaller and smaller and she eventually managed to calm back down. She clutched onto the ends of her clothes and fell silent for a moment before suddenly saying softly to Cheng Zhi Chu: "Sorry….."

"Hm?" Cheng Zhi Chu was confused for a moment. "Why are you suddenly apologising to me?"

"To tell you the truth, I didn't like you very much at first. Be-because you suddenly hugged Xiao Xiao and said those things. Although it was because you lost control of your body, I still felt a little…."

Meng Ke's voice grew smaller and smaller and she seemed extremely remorseful.

Cheng Zhi Chu heard those words and was a little at loss. In fact, Meng Ke didn't have to worry about that at all. He didn't notice her thoughts about him and, what's more, he is a rather good-tempered person so he definitely wouldn't try to make things awkward with a young girl like her.

However, Meng Ke's apology still made Cheng Zhi Chu's heart feel warm. With those words, he didn't feel like he had wasted his time and effort saving Meng Ke.

Speaking of which, it was rather fortunate that he wasn't completely filled with bad luck and that the coin had actually landed on the joker's side. If it was the devils side, they both would have probably died already……..

Something like that was just too despairing. Cheng Zhi Chu shook his head and quickly dispelled those unlucky thoughts. He then started to think about how they should go about escaping from the ninth floor.

Earlier, he had received a clue which was the medical record that the head nurse had given him.

Thinking this, Cheng Zhi Chu pulled out the medical records that he had just received and opened it.

The first three characters that appeared before his eyes were "Xie Yuan Huai".

Bai Yi's Diary (Part 27)

Where's Zhi Chu?

Why do they all want to take Zhi Chu away from me?
