On the same day, I returned to the apartment after lunch. On a whim, I wanted silver-ear mushroom soup and went into the kitchen to boil it. As soon as the soup was poured from the pressure cooker into the soup pot, the Doctor had packed all his luggage and started the was.h.i.+ng machine when the man came over.
I slowly stirred the crystal sugar: “Try it, see if it is sweet enough.” I scooped a little and fed it to him.
Then, we look at each other.
I blinked: “Your ears are red.”
The Doctor: “We shouldn't have gotten engaged the day before I went abroad.”
“Yes, I was drunk…”
“We should have gotten married before I left."
Then, I tasted the taste of silver-ear mushroom soup. It's sweet.
As soon as the two of us got on the sofa, my phone rang, and Xiao Cao's voice sounded helpless: “Ah Xiao, the defense program has been adjusted again. Would you like to ask the old man?”
I helplessly pulled the Doctor's hand out of the hem of my clothes. Alas, this is fate…
On the way back to school, the Doctor's expression was a bit subtle.
It was only then that it came to me, did he just prepare something… or that? His face was flushed.
“What are you blus.h.i.+ng about?”
I looked at him with a calm face and suddenly felt that my thoughts were too trivial. The Doctor was only a little unhappy because he hadn't seen me for a long time and the time together was interrupted. I bowed my head in shame.
He put his hand on my face and picked up the corners of his mouth: “It's a bit of a pity, but there's still a lot of time."
I really can't think of you as being so kind! >_
It was only then that I realized the meaning of ‘a bit of a pity'.
When I was at school, I corrected my papers, typed in applications, handed in data, and had to deal with spot checks on papers and panic.
Xiao Cao rushed back to the dormitory with a pile of papers in his arms: “Ah Xiao, I took a good one from Zhang Gang and found a word misspelled! I've been through it six times!! It's just a report!!!”
“Well—” I tried to comfort, “then we won't lack draft paper.”
The doctor was in the hospital, busy with reports, large and small, sorting out ma.n.u.scripts, handing over cases, and being on duty at night, just in time for the inspection.
I met Zhang Wei in the canteen at noon.
“Aren't you supposed to be at home with a pregnant woman?”
“I wish I could. I haven't finished the doc.u.ments in hand, and a surgery has been scheduled again. How long has it been since you saw your Sister Lin?”
“I guess I'm taking my wedding leave now, but no one can approve it.”
So, it would be almost a week before the two could meet again. We had dinner together, went back to the apartment and took a shower, and no one said a word. I fell into bed and didn't wake up until just over nine o'clock the next day.
“Alas, the wife sleeps comfortably in her own bed.” the Doctor buried his head in my neck and sighed. “it's better to see you in a good mood when you wake up in the morning."
I smiled with my eyes closed. “I hope you still feel that way fifty years from now.”
After lunch, the Doctor drove me back to Y City.
Mother insisted that Gu Wei didn't eat well when he went abroad that she wanted to give all the dishes to him at dinner.
At night, I still sleep in my room and the Doctor sleeps in the guest room.
The Doctor looked sadly at the newly changed sheets in the guest room: “Why are your parents so obsessed with dividing us into two rooms?”
“Because we're not married yet."
“Then let's get married."
“…” Don't take such a turn!
The next morning, the Doctor accompanied Teacher Lin to play badminton, and I chatted with San San on WeChat: [ Jin s.h.i.+ is boring, but his hands and feet are quite fast. I can be a G.o.dmother a little after a month.]
Just as she was joking, the Doctor pushed the door in. Just after the shower, my hair was wet and I threw myself on my bed, but I couldn't get up after. I couldn't help laughing.
In the past, when I woke up in the Doctor's bed, I could see him pursing the corners of his mouth and smiling like ‘you don't know anything'. I always thought my expression was too dull at that time. Now I understand that there is a man lying on my bed, who covers me in my quilt with peace of mind, resting on my pillow, and is unscrupulous in my private s.p.a.ce, which is a solid sense of satisfaction and belonging.
After lunch, we went back to X City. Before going out, my mother hugged me: “Honey, you and Gu Wei take good care of each other.” It inexplicably moved me.
At that time, I thought that Gu Wei came back home with me this time because he had been abroad for a long time and wanted to enhance his relations.h.i.+p with the two elders. Later, it turned out that I was too simple. He took my household registration certificate.
Two days later, at 10:16 Beijing time, Zhang Wei's wife gave birth to a baby girl.
Zhang Wei's wife is a cla.s.sical beauty. Doctor Zhang, who loves his wife as much as life, had the greatest dream of going out with a Xue Baochai in his arms and Lin Daiyu in her arms.
(TNote: Xue Baochai= one of the heroines in “The Dream of the Red Chamber ” she has a beautiful appearance, elegant manners and versatility. Lin Daiyu = is also one of the heroines, born with a beautiful face and skilled in poetry, and was a very spiritual cla.s.sic female figure in ancient literary works.)
When Gu Wei called to congratulate him, Doctor Zhang was so excited that his voice came out squeaking~
Gu Wei: “Zhang Wei is crazy with joy now.”
As soon as Gu Wei got off work, we went to the Maternal and Children's Hospital.
“I decided to call her Tongtong, from the ‘tong' in Sycamore Tree. How about that? Is it good to listen to?” New father Zhang Wei patted Gu Wei on the shoulder excitedly.
(Sycamore= [梧桐] Wú Tóng)
The baby, weighing 6 catty 6 liang, was too small for me to hold, but Mrs. Zhang Wei put her in my arms.
(6 catty 6 liang = around 4,2 kg or 9,2 lb.)
Tongtong gave a big yawn, then clenched her left hand into a small fist, closed her eyes and went to sleep. The skin of her fingertips is translucent! My heart is so soft that it is like a pool of spring water… I don't want to let go!
Later, when Zhang Wei fed his wife soup, Gu Wei went to the side of the cot and bent down to look at the sleeping Tongtong with me.
“Xiao Xiao."
“Hmm?”
“Let's have one, too.”
“Hmm."
When I realized what I promised, my brain instantly congested… (I am always easily turned by him.)
