Death had waved me over to the free spot next to him War and the bench before our house banner. I dumped myself down between my brothers and stared excitedly at the food wonder before me.
My heart raced with desire to savour the mouth watering food pile high on serving plates, which crowded the entire surface of the long dining table. My eyes l.u.s.ted over a plate of fried tofu patties giving off a savoury herb aroma. The tantalizing aroma was complimented with orange and apple scents from the fruit salad artistically piled on plates around it.
Death slapped my hand away from a premature grab of a patty. He signed that we had to wait for an order to eat.

I moaned and sat on my hands with a deep pout, hoping Keiran's order was quick as I was starving.
Keiran and the teachers filed into the hall through the teacher's podium door, and a.s.sumed their seats at the head table.
He stood before us and waffled on about school matters, pausing for silence when there was too much impatient shuffling to interrupt his spiel. There was a constant reminder about keeping still and silent or let the food go cold. Everyone obviously sat upright and were quiet with hopes that their headmaster's address would be over quick, so they could eat.
Keiran finished his boring waffle and ordered us to bow our heads for a prayer.
I clicked my tongue, struggling against my hunger as I lowered my head and listened to the man's mumbled prayer to the city's G.o.d, Christ. It was the first time realising this. Then again, aside from Buddha, G.o.ds and mythology didn't interest me and none of the knights paid homage to deities.
My hands instinctively reached for the tofu patties when Keiran gave us the order to eat. I was so enthralled with my food that I failed to notice the chuckles and stares from my cla.s.smates.
"Famisto, Alina says yah eat like a glut." War commented in my mind.
"A glut?"
"Those fat pigs in the Tempra Highlands." War answered and showed me a picture of what one looked like in my mind.
It was a fat, happy and pinkish pig with a cute twirly tail and big snout sniffing about sandy soil.
I shrugged my shoulders and continued to shovel food into my mouth, relis.h.i.+ng the tasty morsels.
This stirred more chuckles from my cla.s.smates.
I was on my third bowl of jelly and ice cream when the doors of the school hall swung wide.
Colin, and his squad of knights, stormed down the aisle; moving at a strange pace like they were searching for something.
He approached me and asked me a weird question with a serious expression.
"Hi Famine. Have you been in contact with a Yuri Von Klutz?"
Who? My expression was contorted with this answer, which made Colin relax and expression ease. He patted my shoulder and moved on, questioning others at our bench.
"Knights." Keiran greeted Colin and his squad who had gathered to his table.
Keiran left the dining hall with Colin and the knights.
"What was that about?" I signed.
"Who knows?" Death answered and suggested I finish off what food I could stomach as our next cla.s.s was going to be tough on my body.
