Arima looked at them "Then let's go" He said and opened the door. After he entered, Lanya pa.s.sed first, followed by all the students.
This time, everyone came with a notebook, to write everything Arima would say. The latter sat on the table like last time and observed everyone taking their seats.
"Well, let's begin" Arima said "First, I see that there's some here that didn't come yesterday but since you're here, I supposed you saw my last lecture. So, I won't repeat it, what I said yesterday was the base of the base, to prepare you all" He announced and everyone nodded.
"Okay, today, I won't teach you how to become stronger, not now, this lecture will be about, let's say, morality" Arima smiled and said.
Everyone listening to him widened their eyes "Don't be fooled by the name, it's like my previous one, it's really important if you want, not only to become stronger, but also to survive by avoiding making stupid choices" Arima said. His sigil glowed and the room became warped in darkness. The students raised their voices but Arima calmed them. But now, they couldn't write anything due to the darkness.
He one more time activated his sigil and a light gathered in midair to create the projection of a human figure, that looked like the average mercenary, sword and armor.
"For now, view yourself as this figure" Arima said and everyone nodded although the students couldn't see each other, Arima could still see them "It'll be a succession of old tests that comes from where I come from. Then, first question" Arima said, he conjured two other lights, and projected something else.
Now, in front of the mercenary, there were two different situations. On one side, a group of young newbies were being attacked by a monster and were being defeated, and on the other, there was single merc, that was slowly dying against another monster.
"In that situation, who would you save?" Arima suddenly asked and the students were pulled back to reality by his voice, they were shocked and admirative toward Arima's projection that really looked vivid and real.
Then they started thinking about it. In the end, everyone chose the first option, saving the group.
Arima smiled "Of course, that's the correct answer. But now, let me ask you, why did you choose that option?" He asked
This time the students were a bit surprised "Well, because it's better to save a group than one individual" Ofia answered.
"Yes, but there is one more reason" Arima said "In this circ.u.mstance, you didn't think of what would happen to yourself, right?" Arima smirked and said and everyone was taken aback.
"There was actually a hidden option, flee. If you flee, you don't have to make the choice and you save your life at the same time. But if you want to absolutely save someone, you should always go toward the biggest group, because like that, you'll be able to save more people, and also have more chances of surviving" Arima explained, and his students started thinking.
Arima smiled and resumed the projection, the mercenary rushed to help the group and he saved them, at the sacrifice of one of them. He then made a reset of the projection and made the mercenary help the sole guy, in the end they died together.
"What I said could sound like something unrealistic, most people don't think that far when they want to save the greater number. But that's how people should think, before they try to save someone, they should always a.n.a.lyze their chances of survival" Arima said sternly "You can't save someone if you can't care of your own life. You can let them die and regret it, but you also can save more lives if you stay alive"
Arima waved his hand and the projection returned to what it was at the beginning, the simple figure of the mercenary.
"Now, next" Arima didn't wait to know if the students had recovered or not from the first one. This time, a similar situation appeared. But, there were two different groups being attacked and on the brink of defeat. Each group had the same number of members and same for the monsters they were fighting, there was, at first glance, no difference.
"Now, what would you choose?" Arima smiled and asked. This time, the cla.s.s was put into a dilemma. They tried to think hard about it, and the first ones to give an answer chose to flee, while the rest kept thinking.
At some moment, the eyes of the dull student from yesterday flashed "I'll choose the second option" He suddenly said and Arima smiled at him without any comment.
"What's your name?" Arima then asked him.
"Ares Grion" He answered and Arima nodded. At the same time, the five others, of the group of six, also chose the second option. They were followed by few others and the rest chose to flee.
"Good, seems like everyone chose" Arima said and put a lollipop in his mouth "The correct answer was the second one, but that's only for the ones who wanted to save them. Fleeing was also an option, and it's not wrong" He said.
"Now, as for why the second option was correct, it's the group in itself" Arima waved his hand. The two projections of the fight became bigger and were put beside each other "One of these groups has something that the other doesn't" Arima said.
The students were surprised and tried to look closely at each scene. The more time they pa.s.sed looking at it, the more students started realizing the difference.
"That's right, one of these two are actually a lot more coordinated than the other" Two minutes later, Arima gave away the answer.
Ultimately, everyone was still surprised, Arima could actually project something so detailed to the point of even imitating martial arts.
"What this question is teaching you is how to observe and make decisions on what you see and comprehend. This test requires a minimum of real concentration and thought. The ones who chose to flee are not wrong, but you are not made to be some allies of justice. Among you, those who didn't find out but still tried to think about it, are either stubborn or kind. And finally, the ones who realized it are either really caring for the lives of others, an observer or someone really pragmatic" Arima glanced at Ares when he said that.
Arima clapped his hands and the projection returned to what it was before one more time "This will be the last one in this lecture" He said.
This time, the projection was depicting a really important and wealthy figure and not far from him, a group of innocent people was being attacked by an orc.
"Now, you're in a situation where you need to choose between an important figure who is begging you to save him and a group of innocent people. If you try to save the innocents, in every case, the n.o.ble will die, but you will be able to save all of the innocents. In this choice, there's no need to worry about your survival, we just suppose just that you can only do one at once" Arima said and smirked "Now, who do you choose?" And asked one more time the fatal question.
After a moment of thought, everyone answered, this time the opinions were a bit more varied. Around 70% of the cla.s.s chose to save the innocents while the rest chose to save the n.o.ble.
Also, Ares raised his hand to talk "I'd like to add something" He said and Arima smiled before allowing him to do so "There's a condition in my opinion, if the n.o.ble is worth saving then I choose him, after all he could maybe help others in another circ.u.mstance, but if that n.o.ble isn't worth that, I'll chose to save the group. That's all" He said and Lanya nodded at the same time, she totally was of the same opinion.
Arima laughed lightly "That's full score for you Ares" He said and every other student looked at him in jealousy "You're completely right, let's not take that n.o.bles being sc.u.ms is a stereotype, if the n.o.ble is worth saving, then yeah it's better to do so. On the other hand, if he isn't, then let him die, it's not like someone will blame you if there's no witness" Arima said and smiled. His last sentence made s.h.i.+ver his students.
"The thing you need to remember is also very simple" Arima paused "As long as you can remember it of course" He smiled and commented "It's stupid to say that each person has the same value, because we all know that it's wrong. Although people can shout equality, there's always someone that is worth more than others in people's minds. But, there's one thing that should never been taken into consideration when deciding about one's value. And it is social status" Arima explained, he snapped his fingers and the light re-illuminated the room.
"That's three of the most important things you need to know when you live a life of combat and blood. Survival, observation and judging" Arima said "The rest comes with experience" He added and clapped "It's time, the hour has pa.s.sed. Leave the place, only the six I mentioned before and you two can stay as you want" Arima pointed at two more students besides the six and said "Today, I'll keep doing this type of lecture, and tomorrow, I will teach you how to fight" Arima ended the cla.s.s with this.
Everyone nodded and started leaving the cla.s.sroom except the eight he had chosen. While they were leaving and the next people were entering. Arima glanced at Ares "{So, your motive?}" He asked with telepathy and Night perked up his ears.
Ares smiled wryly "{There's not really a motive, I was just curious, and your lectures seem to be interesting}" He responded.
Arima nodded "{Your true name?}"
"{I'm Arister Zeola, I'm the inheritor of Ares, and a Z rank}" Arister answered
"{I see}" Arima nodded "{What's your actual age, don't tell me you're an old man because it would be unfair for all these kids}" He smiled and asked.
Arister smiled "{Don't worry, I'm still twenty, shouldn't be that huge of a difference}" He said the truth.
Arima's eyes widened a bit when he heard that, he was actually surprised "{Impressive, you're already at the first sky with that age, even with an inheritance, it's still surprising}" He said
"{First sky?}" Arister tilted his head "{What is that?}" He asked.
Arima smiled to him "{I'll explain it to you after the cla.s.s}" He said.
The rest of that day, Arima continued to perform the 'light show' with different situations all the time. He then told to Arister the location of the Inn he was staying in.
