She flicked the doork.n.o.b and finds the lodge unlocked. "It's not even locked... This house is creepy but curiosity keeps me going. Sorry for trespa.s.sing, I'm just trying to find out where can I pay my rent for this house.. and how much would it cost?" Ling Ai slowly opened the door and entered the house.
"Woah, I didn't expect this." When Ling Ai entered the house she was surprised that inside the house was very neat and clean.
_sft! sft! sft!
"Are they expecting someone to-" Ling Ai noticed a strange presence and quickly entered a battle stance. She swung her sword's sheath and parried three daggers that were thrown swiftly towards her.
She was so calm watching three men that threw daggers at her quickly leaving the elevated platform, they were leaping from the trees. They thought they were already out of sight from Ling Ai's radius because they didn't have the idea that Ling Ai can see and hear clearly from a very long distance. But Ling Ai still didn't catch any information except their appearance. They wore a white cloak and a white blank mask with a thin line hole for their eyes to see.
"Why are they not talking... Ling Ai carefully watched and listened to them, but she heard nothing except their breaths. "They're good." Ling Ai used Pectoral chi for her eyes but when she focused on the three fleeing men, she didn't saw any signs of cultivation. "What is going on here... They are indeed well-trained! To conceal their true ranks by diminis.h.i.+ng their whole cultivation to zero is quite impressive. They're not even talking, they're... they're just watching each other, and hand signs?!"
Ling Ai was all the way more surprised and widened her eyes as she suspected that all of it was already planned even before she came. "A smoke? They're too cautious, even fleeing that far, they still made sure that they left untracked." Ling Ai's eyes of divinity didn't catch them after they threw a smoke bomb to the ground and disappeared completely.
"I can catch them if I had my original cultivation rank, but if I released it, Martial artists near me might notice my presence and that would critically affect my mission here."
Ling Ai looked down on the floor and find a scroll attached at one of the daggers that were thrown at her. She took the white dagger that was stuck on the ground as it was very sharp and she opened the scroll that was attached to it by white yarn.
"They don't seem to like white color huh?" Ling Ai smirked while she unrolled the scroll and read what's written on it. "Get the white jar you see inside the house and place it outside near the door, put your payment there. 100 black coins for one month, you can pay in advance so it's up to you how much you'll pug in there... Ohh, so those three men were like the eunuchs a.s.signed for this lodge rental fee? Do they really need to be that repulsive?"
Ling Ai found the white jar and placed it outside near the door. She put 200 black coins to it, rental fee valid for two months stay.
"Now, to read the bottom paragraph." Ling Ai continued reading what's written in the scroll. "If you win first place in the Luban sect examinations, we will give you that house as a reward. But not only that, you will have the privilege to meet the great White mustache. We are watching? Woah... Did they saw me earlier? But I just whispered when I used the name White Mustache, how come that it appears like they knew what I've been doing.
Strange. It's not like I'm gonna do it for you, but I'm bound not to fail because this is a mission my Master gave me. Whatever, if you gave me rewards regardless who I'm serving then it's not really a problem for me. This house is quite nice too. White Mustache? It seemed like it's a renowned name to the higher-ups. Let's see about that someday then."
Ling Ai organized the things inside the house, it was s.p.a.cious but it already had a thick carpet, one indoor room, front room, a room with a latrine at the corner of the house, and a white flat table with two white square cus.h.i.+on at both sides in the front room. The house is a nice place to stay but it seemed mysterious from its appearance and decorations.

"Hmph... The design is unusual because of its constant white color, everything is white in this house. But I don't really care about it since it's good in the eyes and the lodge is commodious... I wonder maybe the White mustache is the owner of this lodge?"
Ling Ai picked up the key that was tied to the other dagger. She got out of the house for fresh air.
"It's almost high noon, gotta register now for the exams before I get delayed." Ling Ai got down the elevated platform on the wide stairs going down the town.
She saw many stores everywhere, and residences were mixed up with the stores. If someone doesn't look carefully, one might confuse that some of the houses are stores. The path is crowded as usual with commoners and some people were also wearing foreign clothes like they were some sort of businessmen in a busy market, while some were just wearing a normal tunic. Ling Ai seems to easily blend with them and made through the crowd. Her scarlet eyes gleamed as she used her eyes of divinity to help her find and know where the registration for the exam is located by watching and listening carefully to a far distance radius.
"Form in a proper line before I break your bones myself!"
"Hey, don't provoke the instructor. He looks strong."
"We are in line, we made it. We will partic.i.p.ate in the exams."
"I know right, stay focus and don't look nervous."
"Form a line properly guys."
"Hey, join in line. Who do you think you are?!"
"Yes, we've been here already even before the sun rises."
"Idiots! Continue what you're doing, I'll crush you anyway. I'm not here to register, because I'm already on the list of registered partic.i.p.ants." The large built man just walked by pa.s.sing numbers of Martial arts apprentice and the instructor just nodded at him as he entered the dojo followed by his jabbering a.s.sistant.
"Ha! Aiguo Zhang will surely top all of you Martial arts apprentices here! If I were you? Better not continue taking up the exam if you still want your bones not to be shattered... or your ribs to be pierced? Hahaha!" The jabbering a.s.sistant of Aiguo Zhang cachinnated and followed him inside.
"As far as I can remember, that person was there within my sight the day Master gave me these eyes of divinity, Aiguo Zhang of the Luban sect. He's huge and he looks strong. So much for wondering, now I know where to register. Time to go and face the world, Ling Ai!" Ling Ai walked to where the registration area for exams is held.
When she arrived, there is a very long line of more than twenty people waiting to be registered. "I guess I'll have to wait here huh. I'm used to it so it's fine with me, hmm..." Ling Ai counted the exact number of people forming a line, waiting to be interviewed by the instructor for registration. "I'm the 30th person in line, so I'll have to wait for the 29 people to be finished." Ling Ai crossed her arms and closed her eyes while waiting. But she opened her eyes immediately when she heard the instructor announced something.
"Okay! Listen up! I'll register today 30 more people, beyond that number you can get the h.e.l.l out of here. You are too late, come back again tomorrow for the last registration day." The middle-aged instructor had a loud deep voice that alarmed everyone in the area when he shouted.
"That surprised me, what a deep voice this guy has." A random young man from the line sighed.
"That was indeed loud. Is he a gorilla or something?" Ling Ai chuckled and continued closing her eyes again with her arms crossed.
Some unknown voice had been calling out Ling Ai, it was a big man with a hairy rocky body. "Hey, little girl, little boys, get out of here! We need five slots in line so that I and my four men can register this day, we heard the last registration for this day is until the 30th person so scram!" The big man and the four men behind him had an arrogant smile on their faces.
Hearing this, Ling Ai opened her eyes and raised her brow.
"Ohho... "
