The sun looked radiantly pleasing as its rays spread into the vastness of the fields, covering the entire place in its warm glow. Enticed by the natural beauty of the horizon, w.a.n.g Reiji ordered Rentao to open the car windows so she can bathe in the sunlight and inhale the fresh breeze.
Soon after the car windows opened, w.a.n.g Reiji found herself enjoying the cool wind that bl.u.s.tered and tousled her hair. Compared to the city, the air in the suburbs had more warmth. And the endless expanse of luscious green had more hues in them. The cheerful singing of birds was calming in the mind as well.
"Boss, we'll be reaching the city soon." Rentao, her a.s.sistant, reminded w.a.n.g Reiji.
"Hmm... I see. You can close the windows now." w.a.n.g Reiji replied as she averted her gaze from the unspoiled view outside.
After almost an hour of nonstop driving, they were finally back in the busy city road.
"Just help me unload the boxes. I want to go inside alone." w.a.n.g Reiji spoke when she saw that they almost reached their destination.
"Are you sure, boss? The couturier was really mad yesterday. There's a high chance that she'll get back at you." Rentao's voice was full of worry.
w.a.n.g Reiji let out a low chuckle before she said, "Are you really worried about me or are you worried that I lose my temper and do something as stupid as to hurt Lady Tong?"
"Now that you said that, I think I really need to accompany you, boss." Rentao said as he pulled the car over, parking it on a shady side of the area.
"Nonsense! I think Lady Tong is a good person, she was just carried away by her emotions." w.a.n.g Reiji said as she stepped down the car and walked toward the shop's entrance.
Seeing that his boss had already decided on things, Rentao can only protest silently as he took the boxes out and carried them inside the shop.
"Good morning, a.s.sistant Yu! I am here to return the gowns." w.a.n.g Reiji politely greeted the person, thinking that she was a.s.sistant Yu.
"Good morning, Madame! Please call me a.s.sistant Fu." The person then turned around to greet her, much to w.a.n.g Reiji's surprise.
"Oops! Sorry, I thought you were a.s.sistant Yu. Anyway, can you please call her here? I think it would be easier if she'll a.s.sist me today as well."
"That can't do, Madame. She's on vacation. So, please let me a.s.sist you."
"She's on a vacation? Really? Why so sudden?" w.a.n.g Reiji asked as her suspicion ebbed. Was the poor a.s.sistant fired because of what happened yesterday?
"Is Lady Tong here? Please tell her that CEO w.a.n.g wants to speak with her." w.a.n.g Reiji added as she exchanged glances with Rentao.
"Okay, Madame. Kindly wait here for a while." The a.s.sistant then quickly ascended upstairs to notify Lady Tong."
"I think that the woman who came to our office yesterday was that a.s.sistant," Rentao murmured.
"I think you better get out. It's not good for her to see someone who witnessed her humiliation first hand."
"But in her head, you're the cause of that humiliation, boss," Rentao said while lowering his head down.
"Tss! I know! That's why she better not see you or she'll just recall the humiliation even more."
Rentao scratched his head in bewilderment. His boss words were on point and he couldn't agree any less.
After Rentao carefully put the boxes down the table, he immediately left the shop just like what his boss had wanted him to do.
Soon after Rentao had walked out of the door, w.a.n.g Reiji heard a clattering noise coming down the stairs.
Judging from the sound of the approaching footsteps, w.a.n.g Reiji was pretty sure that they were Lady Tong's. Thinking that way, she began to condition her mind and wore her brightest smile.
"Good day, Lady Tong." w.a.n.g Reiji warmly greeted the older woman. But the older woman ignored her and walked past her as if she wasn't standing there.
"a.s.sistant Fu! Where's the CEO of Oriental Europa?" Lady Tong asked with her right eyebrow slightly raised upward.
The a.s.sistant who just descended the stairs turned her gaze to w.a.n.g Reiji and said, "This madame is CEO w.a.n.g."
Lady Tong's eyes bulged in disbelief however the moment she recovered from the shock, she let out a cruel mocking laugh.
"Hahaha! Your desperation is baffling! Yesterday you were a starlet and now you are telling me that you are CEO w.a.n.g? Are you really that desperate? " Lady Tong's voice roared like thunder.
"I know it's very hard for you to believe, but please hear me out first." w.a.n.g Reiji remained calm despite Lady Tong's negative reaction.
"Why should I listen to a con artist like you?"
"I am no con artist, Lady Tong. I have my reasons. If you just, please listen to me."
"No! You listen to me. Whether you are the petty celebrity or really CEO w.a.n.g, I don't care anymore. Just leave the gowns and I will return the payment!" Though the tone of Lady Tong's voice had some finality to it, her heart was in silent protest. It was as if a part of her was telling her to calm down and hear the woman out.
"Show this woman her way out!" Lady Tong ordered the a.s.sistant as she turned her back away from them.
"Madame, this way please." The new a.s.sistant stretched her arm, pointing to the door of the shop.
w.a.n.g Reiji didn't even move a muscle, she stood firm as guilt sat on her chest. For something trifling as bringing the gowns into a different place, was firing a person necessary?
"You know what's really baffling, Lady Tong? The idea that despite your rudeness, someone believed in you! I hope that friend can still look at you with pride rather than disappointment and regret!"
"You even fired a.s.sistant Yu because you think she humiliated you? Well, guess what! I have news for you, you're the one who humiliated yourself so stop blaming other people for your misfortunes!" Fueled by guilt, w.a.n.g Reiji didn't hold back her words.
"You! How dare you insult me in my own territory?!" Lady Tong yelled at the top of her lungs as her anger erupted because of w.a.n.g Reiji's words.
"Insult? No, Lady Tong. That's called a taste of your own medicine." w.a.n.g Reiji grinned at the older woman before marching her way out the Queen's Wardrobe.
