Though the glow of the moon streamed through the windows of the car, w.a.n.g Reiji's mind was clouded and her sight blurry because of her tears.

Her emotions became unstable as they whirled from hatred to love. That despite the brewing anger in her heart, there was this tiny voice, it was telling her that she was not the only one who suffered, she was not the sole person who went through agony. That she must realize that Zhang Chenric and her were both victims and that the real culprit was still out there and was yet to be punished. And what if the mastermind behind all their sufferings real intention was to destroy them? So if she killed Zhang Chenric now, would she be helping the bad person reach the goal?

w.a.n.g Reiji then found herself caught between wanting to get rid of Zhang Chenric and wanting to believe in his explanation, her heart and mind were now surging bafflement.

Noticing that the woman's killing intent had started to dwindle, Zhang Chenric took the opportunity to s.n.a.t.c.h the knife away from w.a.n.g Reiji's hand. He then tossed it to the front pa.s.senger seat of the car before he pulled the woman closer to him, kissed her swollen knuckle and wrapped his arms around her trembling body.

"You can cry first and kill me later. I won't run away from you. My life is only for you to take." Zhang Chenric sounded gentler as he ran his fingers through her hair and enclosed her in his embrace.

Right at Zhang Chenric's embrace, the heaviness in w.a.n.g Reiji's heart slowly faded as she sunk into the warmth of the man's body. It seemed like the scent and presence of the man carried soothing qualities, his strong arms and soft chest appeared to be very protective. Even the sound of his beating heart was like music to her ears.

But within seconds of what may look like a perfect gesture of affection, w.a.n.g Reiji pulled herself away, not letting her mind be engulfed by the fleeting ecstasy caused by the very same person who brought her immense pain.

"Get out. Please, get out of my car. I want to be alone." She said in almost a murmur as she turned her gaze away from Zhang Chenric.

"It's getting late. I might as well take you home instead. Don't worry, if you don't want our daughter to meet me, I won't introduce myself until you say so." Zhang Chenric spoke as he planted a quick kiss to w.a.n.g Reiji's hair.

"Get out. I can drive myself home. Also, if you want me to let our daughter acknowledge you as her father, you have to bring me the mastermind behind the fire that destroyed a certain village five years ago." w.a.n.g Reiji replied as she tried to hold back the stream of tears that were already building up inside her tear ducts.

"Anything for you and our daughter, Yin. I understand that you are still mad at me and I also know that it is not easy to believe in every word that I said. But I will work hard to win your heart and our family back. And when all of this is over, I will marry you." Zhang Chenric's last words before he stepped down the car.

Soon after setting foot on the side of the road, a car stopped in front of him. Zhang Chenric then opened the door of the backseat and pulled Rentao out. He then removed the handcuffs on the guy's wrist using the key he took out from his coat's pocket.

"Take her home safely." Zhang Chenric said as he gave Rentao a gentle pat on the shoulder before he got inside the car.

"Back to the hotel, Lee." After hearing his master's order, Lee Qingya wasted no time and maneuvered the car back to the hotel Zhang Chenric was currently staying at.

Rentao did not wait for the other car to disappear from his sight as he quickly stepped inside the car's driver's seat. But before he ignited the engine, Rentao took effort to apologize and as well as check out his lady boss' condition.

"Apologies, boss. The kung-fu skills of Prosecutor Zhang's a.s.sistant was out of my league. I lost against him. Please forgive the incompetence of this subordinate." Rentao lowered his head down as he showed his sincerest apology.

"Let's not talk about what happened tonight. Please take me home. I am not just physically tired, I am mentally and emotionally exhausted as well. I just want to rest." w.a.n.g Reiji's voice sounded really weak.

"Understood, boss. I shall now take you back to the villa."

Under the gleam of a moonlit night, the car where w.a.n.g Reiji was in, silently traveled down the road.
