The first page was blank. But just as Rick was about to reach the edge of the page to flip, letters began to appear on it.
[Please standby,
Alternate System detected
Name- Lesser G.o.d's Miracle System
Incorporating Lessor G.o.d's Miracle System into the Lemegeton…
Please wait…]
Rick tried to see if he can flip the book to the next page and realized he couldn't.
Realizing that he could not do anything, he decided to wait it out and inspect the ring- Signet, in the meanwhile.
Rubbing his hand on the Signet, all Rick could make out was that it was made out of some sort of metal. And that too was a guess on his part. On the top of the Signet is a six-sided hexagram star. He inspected it from all directions but got no reaction out of it.
Having inspected all he could, Rick quickly changed his clothes and took a quick bath. By the time he returned back to the table, thirty minutes later, he noticed that on the bottom of the first page of the Lemegeton grimoire, a new line of text appeared.
[Synchronization Completed]
With a smile on his face, Rick sat back down and turned the book to the next page.
"Please be a heaven defying treasure that can remove this one-year deadline" Rick prayed.
Rick could not forget Sol's warning. Rick had one year to be able to summon at least one of the four Kings. Failure meant Rick's death.
Immediately after, two notifications buzzed.
[The Lemegeton has acknowledged its new Owner]
[The inferior Lesser G.o.d's Miracle has been incorporated into the Lemegeton system].
Rick read this two notification which had pop up. He then looked back at the Lemegeton
As Rick turned to the next page, he sighed with relief that it had text in it.
The first line of the grimoire read-
[The Owner of the Lemegeton is destined for greatness and has the obligation to lead humanity]
In a flash, Rick felt I wave of information enter his brain.
"No thanks. I like to keep away from trouble anyway. I don't want to be a hero", Rick mumbled.
He then went through the information that he just received and was suddenly struck by how quickly with a single glance he could lap up the entirety of the page. Rick now had a brief idea of the use of the book.
'This must be one of Lemegeton's powers' Rick mused, 'If I only had this before the world went to doom, I would ace every exam'
The book had three abilities.
It could be used to summon. It could summon anything the user had arranged for summoning. The Lemegeton along with the Signet allowed the user to command demons. The grimoire helped summon the demons, the Signet Ring was allowed the summoner to command over them.
The second use of the grimoire Lemegeton was that it was a repository of information. It could catalogue anything the Owner wanted information about. And not just any sort of cataloguing, it could a.n.a.lyse and provide information to the Owner in real time. All the owner had to do was point out mentally what information the Owner wanted.
And the third and most obvious use of the Lemegeton was that it was a spell book. It had a record of spells and information on how to create spells and other magical objects.
Looking at the abilities of the Lemegeton, Rick realized that the Lemegeton was, in fact, a heaven-defying treasure for him. Rick immediately understood that no one could be allowed to know that he had the grimoire.
The only problem was the last line which came up next
[You will only find information here, not knowledge. The Lemegeton will only unveil the information if the Owner can comprehend it.]
"Even the book knows I don't know anything." Rick hung his head depressed.
Rick flipped through the book but realized that all the pages are blank. He suddenly panicked. 'What the h.e.l.l! Is the book trolling?'
Rick was excited that he could perhaps find information about the Four Kings and how he could summon them, but his face became white with fear. Rick had one year to become strong enough to summon at least one of the kings.
Suddenly text appeared in the page.
[The Four Demon Kings of h.e.l.l
Aaymon, the King in the East;
Corson, the King in the West;
Zinmar the King in the North; and
Gaap the King in the East
The Four Kings together command the entirety of the demon kingdom and its numerous n.o.bility…]
There wasn't just text, the book also had vivid images of the four Kings such that Rick could immediately recognize the next time. Although there was a lot of information available, there was a lot of information missing in between as well. Those were information that the grimoire had a.s.sumed Rick to not be capable of understanding.
As the flood of information entered Rick's brain, it immediately imprinted itself into his memory and he could now recall any crucial details about the Kings at any moment.
Rick again directed his will into the grimoire with the thought, "How do I summon a Demon King?"
The pages turned on its own to another page.
The text on it read [The owner is unable to comprehend. Learn to summon something inanimate first.]
Reading this, Rick felt like grabbing a fist full of hair and ripping it off his head with frustration.
'Fine, fine!' Rick consoled his bruised ego.
"How do I summon an inanimate object?" Rick questioned
The book replied [The Owner needs to increase the overall Stats.]
"And how do I increase my overall stats?" Rick was starting to feel annoyed.
This time, Rick received some useful information-
[The optimal method would be by clearing Dungeons.]
"Let's keep that as a backup plan for now. What are the other options?" Rick was in no hurry to get into another dungeon for his experience in the library earlier in the day.
[
The second method- Consume Enhancement Pills]
"Great, that sounds doable", Rick replied, "What pills? And where do I get them?"
[The owner is unable to comprehend.]
"What the…!" Rick was p.i.s.sed now. If looks could kill and books could die, the grimoire would have been dead considering the look Rick was making, "If I can't use it, why are you even suggesting it?"
[The results of the search are based on the optimal method] the book replied to Rick's question without any hesitation.
Rick took a moment to compose himself.
"Please tell me the easiest way I can increase my stats." Rick asked with a forced smile.
[The easiest way would be through combat practice.]
'Now, at last, I get something useful.' Rick reasoned.
Rick picked up the Lemegeton grimoire and tucked it under his jacket. Another handy think about the Lemegeton was that despite its voluminous look, it weighed almost nothing.
Rick rushed out from the room to the dining room.
"Hey sister, you know what I was thinking. Since all this doomsday stuff is going down, I should learn how to fight a little, what do you say?" Rick asked Samira
Samira looked back from the kitchen.
"Sure, it's a great idea. But I won't go easy, you know that right?" Samira replied with a smile.
Rick nodded.
The reason Rick was so pleased with this plan suggested by the Lemegeton was that Samira was expert and a junior champion at the 'Kallari martial arts'. As such Samira was quite an expert in both hand to hand combat as well as sword fights.
"Let's start right now." Rick said and rushed to the backyard.
Amused by Rick's sudden enthusiasm, Samira followed Rick for a quick spar. Rick had always been disinclined towards sport and always stayed cooped indoors. And Rick's enthusiasm piqued Samira's interest in sparring.
---
An hour later Rick was on the living room sofa, groaning in pain.
"d.a.m.n you didn't go easy at all!" Rick complained.
"This was fun! We should do this more often." Samira screamed from the kitchen.
Rick refused to answer that. He knew he probably had to agree to be beaten death by his sister. That was the only way he knew how he could increase his stats and live on beyond one year.
Rick quickly called up his Status Screen
[RICK HANIQUE
Strength: 12
Stamina: 9.1
Perception: 2]
Noticing this Rick rolled his eyes. The only improvement after the thras.h.i.+ng he received was a 0.1 increase in Stamina.
Rick felt tears well up in his eyes as he thought 'I have to go to a dungeon again!'
