An hour and a half later, the woman again dialed the secretary's phone to confirm the return of his boss, but at that moment when the phone rang, the man materialized in the air right in front of her with a girl whom Lucia had never seen before.
"What happened?" Marcus looked worried. As soon as they got off the ramp, the secretary told him about Lucia's call and her request. She never asked him anything, so Marcus immediately realized that the situation was serious.
"Amelia... she..."
Hearing the name of the child, Marcus quickly walked toward the girl's bedroom. He opened the door and saw a child sleeping on the bed, but the girl's pose was a bit strange. "What is with her?"
"She had a fever for several days," Lucia began to explain, "And then the temperature went away literally in five minutes, but she fell asleep and I can't wake her up from last night," the woman's hands were trembling, she did not understand what was happening to her child,
"Pulse and breathing are normal, the pupils react to light, but she doesn't come to her senses. I did not go to the clinic, as I am afraid that they might do something with her. This is not a standard reaction, especially for a child."
Marcus took Amelia in his arms and hugged her, he saw how the energy pulsed smoothly in her body, but this energy was too much for her age. "Do you see this?" he turned to the girl who arrived with him.
"Yes, she has the amount of energy that several adults have. I've never encountered anything like it," the girl shook her head, she did not know how to comment on what was happening.
"Is it dangerous? What does it mean?" Lucia asked the guest.
If Marcus brought her with him, that means she was a person close to him. This was the first time that her friend brought someone, especially a woman.
"Lucia, please meet Polina. I want to ask you to look after her, but more on that later, while I need to deal with this," Marcus put his hand in the center of Amelia's chest and began to carefully absorb the excess energy from the girl's body.
This energy was so powerful that the man felt a force that he had not felt before. Since the birth of Amelia, something happened to his body, as if the girl had become a missing puzzle in his broken soul.
He no longer felt the urge to absorb the energy of other people in order to drown out the constant feeling of pain and emptiness that had haunted Marcus since his rebirth. He could live like an ordinary person, Amelia became his air. One meeting with her or a light touch was enough for him to restrain his thirst for several weeks or even months.
He met many different people over his long life. But Marcus was sure that this fragile girl was the only person on the planet who could give him peace and a sense of real life. She was the one who filled his monotonous life with meaning.
Amelia flinched and opened her eyes, her eyes were a little lost. The girl shook her head, trying to understand where she was and looked up. Marcus's warm smile instantly rea.s.sured Amelia, and her tense body relaxed in his strong arms.
"Already woke up, my princess?" the man said gently, the girl nodded and with a return smile on her face buried herself in his chest.
"You came? I thought you left me," she whispered softly that only Marcus heard her words.
"Amelia, baby, how are you feeling? Does it hurt anywhere? Can you drink some water?" Lucia sat on the edge of the bed and offered her daughter a gla.s.s of water.
The girl raised her hand to take water, but at that moment she noticed that another person was standing next to them, the person who was unfamiliar to her.
Amelia pulled her hand back, grabbed Marcus by the s.h.i.+rt, looked intently at the man, and then at the beautiful girl standing behind him. "I want to talk with Marcus. Only me and him," the girl said in a serious voice, not taking her eyes off Polina.
The man was surprised at such a sharp change in the mood of the child. Usually Amelia was obedient, but if she decided to do something, then arguing with her was useless. Both Marcus and Lucia were well aware of this.
"Polina, let's go, let's eat first, you have just returned from a long flight, you should be hungry. As you finish your conversation, join us," Lucia led Lina out of the room, leaving Marcus and Amelia alone.
"And what was it now? Your tone was very rude, do you know about that?" Marcus asked sternly.
The man did not expect such a reaction from Amelia to a meeting with Polina, because he wanted to leave her to live with Lucia since she and Martin were the only people to whom he could entrust the care of his old friend.
Amelia got off Marcus's knees and hid under the covers on the bed, "Is that why you didn't come for my birthday? You were with her, huh? I saw that you met in some kind of gray castle and you hugged her," the girl chuckled displeasedly, refusing to look towards the man.
Marcus was speechless when he heard her words.
He really was absent for several months and missed the girl's birthday because he needed to find Polina and help her adapt to new life realities. One of the guards of the Wewelsburg castle told him that they had a girl from out of nowhere, as if out of thin air, who did not understand what was happening and was scared like a little kitten.
