"Honey, take some rest. There are not so many dishes, and I am glad that, finally, I can use the dishwasher. We didn't sit together like that for a long time. We haven't touched this dishwasher for months," David's mom sighed.
Elena understood perfectly well what the woman meant. She and her father also hardly ever use the dishwasher at home, considering that there are only two of them and it is easier to wash the dishes in the sink.
Dina looked out into the living room, where the men were discussing something with each other lively. She closed the door so that they wouldn't disturb her and Elena.
"My girl, I want to apologize to you that I was cold when we talked on the phone last time. I hope you won't be mad at Daniel and me? As a mother, I thought I was doing the right thing, but on the contrary, I brought upon myself the wrath of my younger son."
"Common, all is well. We have already settled all misunderstandings, so no need to apologize to me," Elena hurried to rea.s.sure the woman. In the end, this whole situation allowed her to recall the past and recall the person who was important to her.
Mrs. Anderson smiled, "Thank you. You are a good child, I am glad that you have each other." The woman could not express her feelings in words. She knew well how much effort David put in to find this girl.
She will never forget that terrible year when David, in the process of searching, discovered that the girl died while still a child. He fell into a deep depression and practically did not eat anything, his health was melting before her eyes, and the mother began to fear for the life of her son seriously. Only by chance, it turned out that it was a mistake. And only then further searches led him to America.
If it were not for the girl standing opposite her, she could lose both sons.
"Elena, what I will tell you now, n.o.body else knows, but me. Neither David nor William know about it. Even Daniel remembers this vaguely, I think." Mrs. Anderson glanced at the closed door to make sure no one would disturb them.
"When I was pregnant with David, one day there was an accident. Daniel suddenly fainted and fell into a coma. My husband was on a business trip in j.a.pan at that time and could not return home asap," pain was reflected in the woman's eyes. At that time it was the worst day in her life.
"When Daniel was brought to the hospital, it turned out that he had a fast-growing tumor in his head. His condition worsened with each pa.s.sing hour, the doctors gave no guarantees and told to prepare for the worst." Dina took a few sips of water from the gla.s.s in her hand, "I don't wish anyone to be in a situation where your child is dying before your eyes, and you can't do anything about it."
"But now everything is all right, isn't it?" Elena could not even imagine that this happened to the carefree and always cheerful Daniel.
The woman hurried to rea.s.sure the girl, "Yes, thank G.o.d, now everything is fine," she smiled and continued her story, "I was sitting on my son's bed, and suddenly David started to kick my abdomen in all directions. To divert the attention of the eldest son from his condition, I took his hand and put it on my belly. And then the strangest thing happened. The child in my abdomen has calmed down, and Daniel seemed to fall into a trance.
I was frightened at first, but then I noticed that his breathing and pulse stabilized. The doctors were shocked because, in the next couple of days, Daniel's condition was improving with every pa.s.sing hour. A week later, we were told to go home because my son's tests showed that he was completely healthy."
Elena's eyes widened in surprise, "It sounds like a miracle."
Dina affirmatively nodded her head, "You know, I didn't tell anyone about this, because I was afraid to jinx it and didn't want to ask too many questions, but it seems to me that David did it. Because after this incident, Daniel had these abilities. I'm not sure, but it seems to me that David shared his powers with his elder brother and thus saved his life. Do you think this is possible? I can't ask this from David since he finds it suspicious. But you may know the answer because you too...," the woman fell silent because she did not know whether she had the right to raise this topic. What she knew already caused her deep sense of pain towards these children. Even if it was so many years ago.
Elena thoughtfully scratched her head, "Hmm, honestly, I don't know. But I think this is quite likely. David and I have not yet discussed this issue in detail. I myself still do not fully understand whether these abilities have any limit."
"It's clear that the most important thing is that you are healthy and that everything is fine with you," Dina patted Elena on the head, "I think his thirst for life saved his older brother. And since David in his whole life has not thought about anyone but you, this is also your merit. So take care of him, please. This boy does not know when to stop, and can mess things up."
Mrs. Anderson smiled warmly and hugged Elena, "And yes, don't wait too long with our future grandchildren, ok?"
Elena's cheeks immediately flashed fire. Lord, what kind of family is this? Did they learn somewhere how to make people blush professionally?
The kitchen door creaked, and David looked inside. His mother was smiling slyly, and Elena was red as a tomato. The young man looked at them suspiciously, "And what are you secretly talking about here without me?"
"My G.o.d, son, can you not leave Elena even for fifteen minutes? You think I'll eat her?" his mother answered with irony.
David grinned, "Who knows, who knows," he walked over to Elena and took her hand, "Come, I need to show you something."
David's room was neat and s.p.a.cious. Light gray tones of the walls, dark blue closet, light desk, and a huge bed.
"And what did you want to show me? Your doll?" The girl giggled and looked at the young man playfully.
David cast a protesting glance at the girl, "And you are there too?!" He rolled his eyes, went to the closet and took out a doll from there. Daniel was right, she was exactly where he said. David handed the toy to Elena, "Here you go, you can laugh as much as you want." He defiantly pouted his lips like an offended child.
"Ahaha, you're so cute," she wrapped her arms around his neck and gently kissed his cheek.
The man smirked, grabbed the girl by the waist and threw her on the bed, "Are you sure that the definition of "cute" suits me, eh? Can I show you my other sides that you can appreciate too?" David looked at the girl with a look full of desire, and she felt something hard began to press against her.
"Is that what you wanted to show me?" Elena squinted her eyes and responded to his seductive look.
David's lips spread into a contented smile, he leaned over and kissed her tender neck, "You have no idea how much I want to do with you," he whispered in her ear, and then smacked her little nose, "But now I'm about to do something else."
David picked up the girl and sat her on his lap, took the folder from the bedside table and handed it to Elena.
"What is it?"
"This is what Daniel arranged all of that farce with my non-existent engagement for. More precisely, this is one of the consequences. Well, see for yourself," David replied, and prepared to watch the girl's reaction.
Elena opened the folder and froze. On the first page of the doc.u.ment, she just froze, on the second page of the doc.u.ment, her eyes widened in shock from the information she had read, on the third page her jaw practically fell to the floor.
"Is that... is it true?" She turned to David, unable to believe in what she had just seen.
"Hmm, it's necessary to do a retest, but I think it is as it is written here," he replied.
"G.o.d d.a.m.n it..." The information contained in this folder shocked the girl even more than her returning memories. "David, where is my phone?"
"There, in the drawer of my desk. Charged and ready for use."
Elena got the phone and dialed her father. She was tapping her fingers on the table nervously, listening to the monotonous beeps in response. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach the mobile and home number, she felt an increasing alarm in her chest.
This never happened so that her father would not answer her call. And considering that she was far on the other side of the ocean and left so quickly, he certainly would not have parted with the phone, waiting for her to call.
"Um, David, what do you think when we can go back to America?"
"We can go to the airport right now if you want it," he answered.
Elena thought, maybe her feelings are wrong, and everything is all right. She began to walk from corner to corner, lost in thought. The young man watched her for a couple of minutes, got out of bed, opened the closet and began collecting his things in silence.
Whatever worried her, he would prefer to get rid of it as soon as possible. And the information contained in the folder was more than weighty.
. . .
The young man parked the bike a hundred meters from the designated target. He was wearing a black tracksuit and a cap. He took out his mobile phone and looked at the screen, as if waiting for some sign above, telling him what to do.
At that moment, an unknown number appeared on his phone. Yun flinched from surprise and dropped the call. Following the call came an incoming message. Its part was highlighted on display,
[Yun, h.e.l.lo. This is Elena Lee. Look at the attachment I sent you, and then call me back.]
Under the message, the [Open attachment] b.u.t.ton was highlighted.
The young man was just about to press the b.u.t.ton, as received the second incoming call.
"h.e.l.lo."
"Did you complete the mission?"
"Not yet. I am near the object's home," Yun replied.
"Don't tell me you decided to back down?" Alan asked in a cold voice. "You yourself have long wanted to take revenge on this man. Master gave you this chance. Right now."
"Did he confirm his order?"
"Do you need his second confirmation? Don't you take too much upon yourself?" Alan replied sharply. He could not admit to this boy that after the last conversation with Rick, he could not get in touch with him. The master ignored all his calls. "Finish everything quickly and return to the base. This is an order," he commanded and hung up.
Yun closed his eyes and took a deep breath. On the phone display, the b.u.t.ton offering to read the attached file was still blinking. He looked at this b.u.t.ton and instead turned off the phone completely.
The young man took a pistol from his bag and went to his destination. There was a light in one of the windows, and the owner of the house was at home. Yun pulled a black mask over his face and took a step forward. This was Elena's home.
