Jin Xiangdong shot a glance over at Lu Jia’er, who was lying across the backseat in a coma. He then turned to Jason and said in a serious tone, “Jason, take care of Jia’er! It will take you about half an hour to drive to F University from here. I will call Miao Miao and let her meet you at the gate. If I haven’t come after half an hour don’t wait up. Bring Jia’er to Professor Chen Ming directly!”
Sitting on the driver’s seat, Jason looked at Jin Xiangdong with worry. “Will it work?”
“We have no other choice. We must try this. Later, I will drive out first! Then wait three minutes before you go. If your car is followed and you cannot shake them, drive directly to the police station.” Jin Xiangdong urged him again and again.
Jason nodded after Jin Xiangdong shared the plan. “Okay!”
Once again, Jin Xiangdong cast a glance on Lu Jia’er. Next, he got out of the car quickly. He walked to his black Maybach in powerful strides. He pulled open the door and got in.
Then, Jin Xiangdong drove away from the community. As he had expected, as soon as he came out, two cars began to follow him.
What happened next was like in the movies. Jin Xiangdong demonstrated driving skills he had never shown before. He had had wine at dinner, and he was not in a suitable condition to drive. However, given the circ.u.mstances, there was no other choice, like he said.
Jason did as Jin Xiangdong planned. He drove out after five minutes. Fortunately, he was not tailed. He raced the car to F University. However, later on, things changed. Maybe, Jin Xiangdong had been compromised. Jason noticed someone was following him.
It was the first time that Jason had experienced such things. Somehow, he felt like he was a hero in a blockbuster. Jason was driving better than before, perhaps because of drinking. In order to shake off the tails, he made several turns. When he was waiting at the red light at a crossroad, Jason happened to see an empty taxi by the side. In the spirit of in for a penny and in for a pound, he parked his car by the road, opened the backseat door and carried Lu Jia’er to that taxi and dashed forward.
He parked his car by the road randomly and he raced around in circles. There would be news about him tomorrow. However, compared to Lu Jia’er’s secret, this was just a drop in the bucket.
Seeing Lu Jia’er in this state, Jason became more worried about Su Han. Many messy thoughts were spinning around in his mind.
Where was she? Was she called back? Was she kidnapped? Or… upgraded?
The taxi soon arrived at the gate of F University. When Yuan Miaomiao saw Jason lowering the window, she asked, completely baffled, “Jason, what is happening?”
Jason did not explain. He asked, instead, “Can the taxi go into the campus?”
“No!” Yuan Miaomiao shook her head.
Jason asked another question. “Do you have cash?”
Yuan Miaomiao, while puzzled, said, “Yes, I do!”
“Pay the check for me!” Then, Jason carried Jia’er off the car.
Yuan Miaomiao was confused to see Lu Jia’er in a coma. “What has happened to Professor Lu””
“Settle the check, now!” Jason was anxious.
Yuan Miaomiao took out a bill of 50 to the driver. Before the driver got him the change, Jason shouted, “Keep the change! Miaomiao, bring us to your lab, will you?”
This was another point Yuan Miaomiao was confused about what was happening. Why would they drag her to the lab in the dead of the night?
But all visitors must register with the guard before they were allowed in. “I will help you register!” Yuan Miaomiao said.
Right at that moment, Professor Chen Ming happened to arrive in his car. He parked in front of Jason. “Mr. Yan!”
Jason met with Professor Chen Ming when they signed the contract. When Jason heard his name, he carried Lu Jia’er to Professor Chen Ming’s car without further ado. “Professor Chen, thank you!” Then, Jason shouted to Yuan Miaomiao. “Miaomiao, get in the car!”
While completely in the dark, Yuan Miaomiao reacted quickly and got into the car. Chen Ming turned around the car and drove back into the campus.
Jason was sweating through his forehead. “Professor Chen, did Jin Xiangdong contact you just now?”
“Yes!” Professor Chen Ming answered in a low voice.
“Good!” Jason was relieved.
Yuan Miaomiao, who had no idea of what had happened, could not tie down the urge to ask. “What is going on?”
“Miaomiao, let me tell you later!” Still, Jason did not give an answer. Then, he turned to Professor Chen Ming. “Professor Chen, thank you!”
Yuan Miaomiao felt as though her head was in the clouds. She was disturbed to see Jason like this and Lu Jia’er in a coma.
“Where is Xiangdong?” Yuan Miaomiao asked.
Reminded by her, Jason said in a hurry. “Give me your cell phone!”
Yuan Miaomiao did so. Jason called Jin Xiangdong directly. “How is it going over there!”
“I may not get there in time. You may have to sign an agreement for me at Professor Chen’s request!” Jin Xiangdong said.
Hearing this, Jason’s eyes flickered. “Signing for you? Ace, this is not a joke!”
“I know but time is running out. It has to be you signing for me!” Jin Xiangdong, who was driving, insisted.
While Jason was still conflicted, he had to agree given the urgency. “Okay. Got it!” He said and hung up.
Professor Chen Ming asked, “Will Mr. Jin arrive soon?”
“He is driving over.” Jason answered.
Professor Chen Ming’s expression changed a bit. Soon, they arrived at the lab.
Jason opened the door and carried Lu Jia’er in. Seeing this, Professor Chen Ming began to hesitate.
Noticing that Professor Chen Ming had not gotten out of the car, Jason pressed him. “Professor Chen Ming, hurry up, please!”
Professor Chen Ming had to get out and Yuan Miaomiao did as well.
“Mr. Yan, in principle, this is against the rules!” Chen Ming walked to Jason.
“I understand. Professor Chen, but this is an emergency. Please make an exception for me!” Jason begged him.
Chen Ming looked at Jason and the girl he carried in his arms. Half an hour ago, Jin Xiangdong called him and told him about this unreasonable request. At first, Professor Chen Ming did not agree. They were cooperating but they had not worked together for long. However, Jin Xiangdong said something to him that made Chen Ming, who was unable to decide, make up his mind.
Yuan Miaomiao had no clue what was going on. She noticed that Professor Chen Ming was having second thoughts, that Jason was anxious and that Lu Jia’er was in a coma. An idea came to her mind. Was it… Lu Jia’er that lost her memory?
Yuan Miaomiao remembered what Lu Jia’er said to her over dinner. Instantly, Yuan Miaomiao believed her speculation about this was right.
However… Lu Jia’er did not appear to be someone suffering from memory loss at all.
“Professor Chen!” Jason urged him again. “Professor Chen, this is an emergency!”
Professor Chen Ming looked at Lu Jia’er in Jason’s arms and was still undecided. “Is this against the law?”
“I will sign the agreement. I will take responsibility for everything!” Jason said.
Professor Chen Ming ended up nodding. “Okay!”
So, Professor Chen Ming brought Jason and the group through several levels of screening and entered the lab, the one with the highest level of security at the biology department of F University.
Inside the lab, Professor Chen Ming instructed Jason, “Put her here!”
Per his instructions, Jason put Lu Jia’er on a bed that was similar to a s.p.a.ce-capsule shaped bed used for CT scans.
Then, Professor Chen Ming took a doc.u.ment over to Jason. “Sign this agreement. Miaomiao, I’ll need you as my a.s.sistant!”
Yuan Miaomiao, who was staring at Lu Jia’er on the s.p.a.ce capsule bed, came back to her senses. “Yes, Professor!”
Jason signed his name on the agreement. While fully aware that this was urgent, he was disturbed, nonetheless.
Chen Ming took over the agreement and said, “Leave it to us.”
Jason would be of no help here. He had to step out of the lab.
Chen Ming put the agreement on the side and said to Yuan Miaomiao. “Miaomiao, help me record the date later.”
“Yes.” Yuan Miaomiao nodded.
The next second, Professor Chen Ming asked in a frown. “Have you been drinking?”
Yuan Miaomiao felt a bit awkward. She summoned up the courage and said, “Yes, a little bit.”
Chen Ming turned over to her, his expressions serious, “It should be more than a little bit!”
“Professor, you have a good nose. But the level of enzyme in me is high. My ability to dispel the effects of alcohol is strong. Currently, I am quite conscious!” Yuan Miaomiao rea.s.sured him.
Professor Chen Ming was wavering again. “I really should not have said yes to Jin Xiangdong!”
Looking at Chen Ming, to be honest, Yuan Miaomiao found it hard to understand how come Professor Chen Ming would grant Jin Xiangdong’s request.
“Professor, what happened to you?” Yuan Miaomiao asked with curiosity.
Chen Ming looked at Yuan Miaomiao and said, “Jin Xiangdong has untoward goals to strike this cooperation with us!”
Hearing this, Yuan Miaomiao blinked. “Untoward goals? Well… Professor, given Brother Xiangdong’s moral quality, I guarantee you that he is clean! Our family and his family know each other through and through!”
Yuan Miaomiao defended Jin Xiangdong at once. Professor Chen Ming threw her another look and heaved a sigh. ” The day has eyes; the night has ears!”
Yuan Miaomiao felt she must blame drinking for the fact that she could not understand anyone’s words.
“Professor!” Yuan Miaomiao looked at Chen Ming with confusion.
Chen Ming said nothing more than three words, “Let us begin.”
