Brianna walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and admired the night view of Seattle.
In the reflection on the gla.s.s, she saw that Quentin is approaching her from behind and his hands are in a position to hug her.
"How many girls did you bring into this apartment before me?", Brianna asked Quentin.
She saw that he froze, and his hands fell limply to his sides before she turned to face him.
Quentin arched an eyebrow while trying to understand why is Bri asking about the girls before her. He realized that there is still a wall around her heart, and it's a thick one.
"You are the first one.", he responded.
Bri can tell that he is not lying, but… "That means you have a different place for your hookups."
Quentin's eyes s.h.i.+fted. There is no way he will tell her that he and Max have separate apartments for hookups and a schedule which determines when they can use them. Both of them value their privacy, and they don't want to bring random girls into their personal s.p.a.ce.
Bri understood based on Quentin's silence that her a.s.sumption is correct. It adds up to what Kendra said, that she is doing this 'service' in Quentin's apartment for the first time.
Bri forced a smile. "Don't worry about it. I'm not holding it against you. I should probably be honored that you brought me here."
Bri was not sure why she said that at loud. Maybe she wants to remind herself that he is a player, but she knows that. Or maybe she wants to remind him that she knows who he is and that she has no expectations for anything more than what is happening right now... and she wants him to stop the act of being sweet and caring which creates an illusion that this is more than what it is: just fun.
"Why are you doing this?", distress in Quentin's voice was apparent.
Bri shook her head, refusing to answer. "Don't spoil the mood. Bring me a drink. Something strong."
Quentin walked to the kitchen with a heavy heart while thinking about her words. She mentioned more than once in one way or another that he is a player with many girls behind him and… she is right. But that does not mean that he does not want more than a night, or a weekend, with Brianna. She is amazing and he never thought that a girl will walk into his life and make him want to stop fooling around.
Quentin knows that he needs to prove to Brianna that she means much more to him than any girl he met before.
He rubbed his chin while pondering: how can he prove to Brianna that she is special without making her think that it's all an act?
…
While waiting for Quentin to bring drinks, Bri admired her reflection in the floor to ceiling window. She looks amazing. The dress is perfect for her, and it confirms that Quentin has a great eye for fas.h.i.+on.
Brianna remembered that Kendra said how the dress was featured in the last edition of US Glam and her attention was drawn to the floating shelf with magazines stacked on it.
Bri reached and pulled the corresponding magazine and flipped through it and… there it was: in the middle is a two-page photo of a young woman wearing the same dress. She is much skinnier than Brianna, which is typical of models… she has a long red hair cascading over her shoulders, almost the same hue as Brianna's, and what got Brianna's attention is a ten-digit number scribbled with a black marker. A phone number? She noticed that the corner of the page is folded, like a bookmark. Looking at the magazine, there are two more pages with folded corners. Brianna flipped the magazine to those pages, one is with a model with a short blonde hair and a phone number… other page is with two female models and two phone numbers… it looks like it's the same marker, different handwriting.
Bri flipped back to the two-page photo of a woman with red hair who is wearing the same dress she is and then the realization hit her: those are phone numbers of models who are on the photos. Quentin slipped the previous night how his job is allowing him to approach all these models easily.

Kendra's words rang in her mind: the dress is one of a kind.
Brianna's mood dropped at the thought how that means that this redhead model wore this exact same dress… and based on everything she knows about Quentin and this phone number scribbled with a black marker: he slept with her.
'Great, just great…', Brianna scowled.
Tonight, Quentin was amazing. The dress, the styling, the Seattle's symphony, private dinner on the rooftop terrace, the way Quentin looked at her like she is the only woman in the world… Everything was perfect.
It was perfect the point of Brianna thinking that she might get used to it. And even though she told Quentin that she will not fall for him, she knows that she was lying. Why else would her heart race whenever he is close? Why else would she get so dazed when he kisses her? Why else would she be upset at the thought that this dress was worn by one of his previous hookups?
All the special treatment, and the fact that he brought her here, made her think that for him she is different from other girls. But she knows that it's only wishful thinking. She reminded herself over and over again not to take him as anything more than a weekend fun because he is a player. She repeated to herself that all his kindness is just a game, the one he played many times before.
But it's worse than what she thought. Looking at the two-paged photo of a girl in the same dress, she is… disgusted. He got her to wear the same dress as one of his previous hookups… And that girl has about the same hair… Is that the type of girls he chases after?
How naïve, she scolded herself.
Yes, she didn't see him as a boyfriend material, or at least that is what she told herself… but to be treated as a generic replacement? She can't allow herself to go so low, no matter how good of a kisser and a sweet talker he is… or how much she likes him.
Brianna repeated to herself many times over the evening that this is fun but now that she thinks about it… she is NOT having fun.
Brianna dropped the magazine and headed to the guest bedroom where her clothes are.
She was relieved that the panties she washed in the sink earlier are dry. Now she can wear her clothes and leave everything he gave her behind. She does not need anything… she does not WANT anything to remind her of this evening or Quentin. Her only hope is that she can forget this quickly and put all these useless emotions behind and resume her life how it used to be.
Her hands were shaky while she undid the braid Kendra made for her as part of the styling.
Brianna remembered Kendra's indifferent gaze. Yeah… Kendra saw who knows how many girls getting ready for their date with Quentin.
Brianna scolded herself for a fleeting thought that she is not one of many. Why would she think that? Stupid. And what is even more stupid is that she allowed all this to get to her. She reminded herself to hurry up. She needs to do this swiftly, before her will wavers and she stays for the night and ends up tangled up in pathetic emotions which she does not want.
