This year, after the Spring LpL compet.i.tion ended, the mighty YYg team, that'd only achieved third place, was almost always under the awkward status of angering their own fans.
Technically speaking, getting third place shouldn't be too bad. But considering what happened before the compet.i.tion, when YYg had ambitiously created a Galaxy Battles.h.i.+p and convinced all their fans that they were going to be in first place this time, then that third place might actually be that bad. After all, during the compet.i.tion last summer, YYg had been in second place. If you look at it, then in a way, after creating the Galaxy Battles.h.i.+p, they became worse.
But this was not the main reason why the YYg club had angered their own fans. The real reason why the fans were angry was because of their employee operation before the compet.i.tion - they had sold Song Chu, the oldest and most prestigious captain in the YYg team.
Song Chu had been the jungler for the YYg team ever since the YYg team was created. Time flew by fast. It'd already been 5 years since he'd been playing. In terms of age, he was indeed a veteran that should be “renewed.”
TL Note: A jungler is a role in the League of Legends
However, the fans were still so outraged that they would've liked nothing more than to sit at the entrance of the team base to threaten them. This wasn't only because in the eyes of most YYg fans, Song Chu was the soul of this team, but also because there were no subst.i.tutes on the team that could be a jungler, and the team did not seem to have any intentions in buying another player.
"Actually, I'm just a bit curious. Lin ge said not to worry, but the transfer window is going to close soon! How are we going to play in the summer compet.i.tion? Are we really going to take that average jungle player in the second team? Oh G.o.d, I'm really going to be autistic now."
TL Note: “Ge” means brother in Chinese, but when they say Lin ge, it's kind of like a way of saying dude or bro in Chinese. In this case, ge isn't actually a part of a person's real name. Lin is the dude's real name.
At this moment, in the YYg base, the support player, Yin Yuanxia, while sitting down in front of his computer, was starting to spit out worries about his team like a machine gun.
When the Spring Compet.i.tion just concluded, the atmosphere in the team had been extremely bad. Although he tried to comfort everyone at first, after Song Chu got sold, everyone was extremely confused. He was the first one who couldn't hold it back anymore and went to find their leader, Lin Lin. After comforting everybody, Lin Lin told him not to worry. He said that the management ranks must've had other plans in mind, otherwise, they wouldn't have done this.
But as the day when the closing of the transfer window close got closer and closer, even the positive Yin Yuanxia started to worry.
TL Note: I think the transfer window is a period of time where League of Legends teams begin to make changes to their teams by “selling” and “buying” players.
"Lin Lin left the base two days ago," Yin Yuanxia still didn't turn his computer on. "I thought he was going to other teams to see if he could buy a jungler from them. But after I dug around a little last night, a few teams that were thinking about selling their jungler all told me that Lin Lin didn't come. So where in the world did Lin Lin go?"
Yet n.o.body answered him.
Or to be more accurate, there was n.o.body there but another team member, who was paying all of his attention to a game that he was playing.
Fortunately, Yin Yuanxia had been long accustomed to the silence of his own ADc. After holding his phone and rambling on for a few more moments, he also turned his computer on and logged onto the game.
TL Note: ADc = Attack Damage carry (I think it's a person with low health but deals a lot of damage in League of Legends)
Although Yin Yuanxia was a support player, when he played regular games with the ranking mode on, he rarely played as a support. According to his words, if you play more and different positions on a team on a regular basis, then it would be helpful for better cooperation in a real compet.i.tion.
These days, he always thought about how there would be no jungler player in the summer compet.i.tion. And so, his frequency of playing as a jungler had skyrocketed.
"Oh! Looks like we're going to be playing against each other, Xie ge," Yin Yuanxia saw the familiar ID in the opposite team and instantly turned around to look at the teammate sitting beside him.
Yes, this round he got in the same server with his ADc teammate, Xie Yi. But in the Korean server high-end bureau, these kinds of situations were not rare. After all, there weren't too many people who were at this rank in the game. And those who logged on this early in the day were even less.
Yin Yuanxia clicked his tongue dramatically, deciding to still play as a jungler.
Around this time, Xie Yi suddenly spoke up: "I've got Yuzhou in my team."
"Oh, Yuzhou. Nice." Yin Yuanxia replied, but then suddenly realized what Xie Yi said. "Wait what? You mean the Yuzhou, the fifth-best in the Korean server?!"
"Mhm." Xie Yi nodded. It was rare for him to respond to others with more than one sentence. "Are you still going to play as a jungler, now?"
Yin Yuanxia: "…"
It was as if he instantly changed his mind. He decided to play as support this round and was going to use his best kindred.
It was no wonder why he was suddenly so persuaded. The name of Yuzhou was extremely famous throughout the entire server. It was said that Yuzhou had the highest winning rate in the ranking, making many professional players bite their tongue and freeze whenever they heard the name.
As someone who could play any position in a regular game with ranking mode on, Yin Yuanxia went to Yuzhou's live-stream room to observe and learn. He had only one thought after watching and reflecting — this person is really talented. Instead of live-streaming to get a bit of money, Yuzhou could actually play as a professional.
So right now, after knowing that Yuzhou was on the other team and was about to play against him, Yin Yuanxia certainly couldn't play the jungle position and humiliate himself. To be defeated so overwhelmingly as a professional player, even in his opinion, would be very shameful.
"Oh G.o.d, I really have to ban this kindred." Yin Yuanxia said, controlling his character as he rambled on and on. "Wow, Xie ge, you really are lucky today. Not only did you get Yuzhou on your team this round, but you also got ranked to Mid SF!"
TL Note: kindred = hero character
Xie Yi…… Xie Yi stopped replying to him again.
This round, Ying Yuanxia 's luck was horrible. In order to avoid being defeated too overwhelmingly, he had decided to play as a support. As a result, his teammate, a jungler, played even more terribly than he did. He walked in the wild area throughout the game. Not only could he not help his teammates, but in the end, he failed to develop and was always killed.
Because of the fact that he had to carry such a teammate while they were being played four members to five members, the end result was obvious. So, after the round, Ying Yuanxia couldn't help but curse under his breath.
"But Yuzhou is actually really good! Why would a jungler with this kind of skill not play as a professional gamer? I really can't figure this one out." After Ying Yuanxia finished complaining about his bad luck, he started admiring how well Yuzhou could play.
"Too little." Unexpectedly, Xie Yi actually responded to him.
"What?! But playing as a professional would earn you much more money than live-streaming, right?"
"Too young," Xie Yi told him.
If it weren't because Yin Yuanxia had been working with Xie Yi for such a long time, then he wouldn't have been able to figure out what Xie Yi meant.
What he meant, was that Yuzhou wasn't old enough to play in a LpL compet.i.tion. But if he went to the teams with lower levels, he probably wouldn't earn as much as he could earn in live-streaming.
TL Note: I think that what this meant was that lower-level teams probably allowed younger players, it's just that the players in those didn't make as much as live-streamers.
"Oh. So that's why." Yin Yuanxia understood but instantly had a new question. “How do you know, Xie ge?”
"Asked him," Xie Yi's answers were still, unsurprisingly, concise.
Yin Yuanxia: "…" Of course, I know that! What I wanted to ask is how you even have a personal connection with him!
If it was any other professional player that had a personal connection with this number one player and knew so much, Yin Yuanxia wouldn't be that surprised. But Xie Yi was famous for being extremely anti-social and uncaring.
"Uh, Xie ge, are you familiar with Yuzhou?" Yin Yuanxia couldn't help but ask.
"We played two-players ranking together a few times, " Xie Yi paused for a moment.
Yin Yuanxia: "…" This was indeed Xie ge.
Just as he wondered whether he could gossip a bit more, he saw Xie Yi raise his eyebrow, as if looking at something surprising. Yin Yuanxia automatically looked at what could interest Xie Yi.
"What is it, Xie ge?"
"Yuzhou." Xie Yi's tone was smooth, as always, yet now it s.h.i.+fted a little, "said that he's coming here."
“What? ” Yin Yuanxia was startled and ignored the fact that his team's ADc didn't like close distance with people and immediately looked over at his ADc's computer screen. There, at the chat section of the game page, was a message from Yuzhou.
【i am going 2 join ur team】
Yin Yuanxia: "What the f.u.c.k! He's joking, right?"
Yin Yuanxia didn't even wait for a reaction from Xie Yi. He immediately contradicted himself again: "Well, if Lin knows that it's you, he wouldn't trash talk about things then. Oh my G.o.d. So the secret that Lin ge held back for several months was this??"
Xie Yi didn't respond. He typed out a message and sent it to Yuzhou.
【Are you sure?】
Yuzhou, on the other side, replied:【Ofc】
"Oh my G.o.d! Oh my G.o.d!" Yin Yuanxia couldn't contain his excitement anymore. "We're going to have the number one kindred on the Korean server?! When is he going to come? I'm going to tell everyone else about this. Let's have a huge celebration party or something!"
Xie Yi: "…"
In reality, he was delighted, so he asked again and again and got a reply that he was going on today's afternoon flight and that was probably going to reach Shanghai tonight.
"…I'm going to wake Han and the others up right now!" Yin Yuanxia stood up in an instant and then dashed upstairs like a maniac.
Xie Yi, who stayed in his chair, looked at the chat on the screen and sighed in relief. Although he didn't partic.i.p.ate in the discussions over the empty position of jungler at all that occurred after Song Chu was sold, he indeed had been worrying about it too. Therefore, he can now finally relax after knowing that they had finally found a new jungler.
The following afternoon, the entire YYg team almost couldn't discuss anything else but the new jungler.
"But to be honest, I still can't believe that Yuzhou mei is going to be a part of our team. I've watched his live stream pretty often, and he's really good. Not only does he play with kindreds well, but he also often used Huanzi, Zhao Xin, and Mang Sen like no one has ever used before. “
TL Note: I think that they call Yuzhou, “Yuzhou mei” because it's his nickname. Mei actually means dude, but like in a feminine way. In this case, although they think Yuzhou is a boy, they still call him in “mei” anyway. I also think that Huanzi, Zhao Xin, and Mang Sen are like types of kindred in League of Legends.
"It's just that he has a really girly voice. The last time I watched his live stream and heard him complaining about an idiot teammate, oh G.o.d, it sounded as if he were being coquettish."
"Of course! Or else, why would we call him Yuzhou mei? Not gonna lie to you, but when I first watched his live stream and heard his voice, I thought he was a female."
"Coming back to the topic, Yuzhou doesn't film his face. We don't even know what he looks like."
"What he looks like doesn't matter. If his gaming skills are good then that's enough since we already have Xie ge as our handsome guy of the team.”
"My G.o.d, Han, you really are getting daring these days. You even dare to talk about Xie ge like that."
"But today we've gotten really good news. Xie ge won't get mad at me. Right, Xie ge?"
Nearby, the seriously gaming Xie Yi: "…" My teammates are all stupid idiots.
Anyway, after the team waited for a long time, it was finally evening. However, they were told that the airplane carrying Lin Lin and Yuzhou was delayed. Even with this new piece of news, the team still didn't give up - being a professional gamer meant that sometimes you'd sleep late. It didn't matter to them anyway.
At about 11:30, there were noises coming from downstairs of the base. Lin Lin, the team's leader, who'd been gone for a few days, had finally returned along with the new player.
And so, the group of people immediately ran out from their training room to welcome them. Yin Yuanxia even brought some of their snacks along so as to welcome Yuzhou and allow their relations.h.i.+ps to progress faster.
However, n.o.body expected that ten seconds later, the person that entered the base along with Lin Lin was actually a slender and young girl!
The girl was wearing casual clothing. A pure black T-s.h.i.+rt and a pair of dark green pants. She was also wearing a pair of athletic shoes with a cap on her head. She looked very young. If someone looked at her from a distance, then she could've even been mistaken for as a middle schooler.
When the YYg team members saw this, they almost turned to stones. Even the usually unspeaking Xie Yi froze.
But Lin Lin didn't give them any time to slowly digest the information and immediately introduced her. "This is our new jungler, Zhou Tian. Her ID is Yuzhou. You should've heard of her."
Silence.
Zhou Tian didn't feel awkward and said: "h.e.l.lo everyone, I'm Zhou Tian. We will be teammates from now on."
The girly voice was exactly the one that came from the live stream room. And so, the team of YYg players finally came back to reality.
The first to speak was, of course, Yin Yuanxia. And as always, un.o.bstructed by anything, he said: "Eh so, we didn't really expect that the Yuzhou mei was really a mei…"
TL Note: They mean that they didn't expect her to really be a girl… They thought she was a boy.
