Her ability went viral amongst the ladies and everyone envied her.
Adrienne could know her opponent well.
She advised people about dresses, shoes, necklaces, earrings, including headdress colors, and brooches.
Ladies that delightedly listened to Adrienne's advice were all in important positions.
Her advice was on 'how to make yourself more beautiful'. Even if the ladies had a fixed preference, they would visit whenever their positions would allow them to.
It was natural for her to become famous among the ladies. Adrienne was able to raise Amy and Noel.
Until now, she had used her abilities for her siblings. But she would use them to grow her own business from now on.
Adrienne's fas.h.i.+on sense (vision) was coveted by all the social circles, and no one could overcome her.
As a result, it didn't take long for everyone to tease her as soon as rumors spread that she was no longer someone's maid, but that she was independent and had made a business.
Also, unexpectedly, a large majority of her clients were men.
Regardless of age or marital status, men wanted to look good just as much as women did.
Adrienne's business attracted many customers and was a huge hit. Her hard life completely changed.
The project, which started with a small sum of money, was now a three-story building.
Adrienne thought that when she saw the sign on her wall's shop that read Ophelia Shop…
Finally, her life was rewarded.
But that happiness did not last long… Compared to her suffering that seemed to have no end… It was instantaneous.
The irony was that her happiness was ruined by her siblings who she had sacrificed everything for.
Noel was greedy. But the reality was the n.o.bles had power and could solve problems on their own. He could not extradite anyone as no one needed his help. Everything around him annoyed him.
“They're more stupid than me!”
This was ridiculous. He had to live a more radiant life. He had to go forward without difficulty. He could do so.
But his road was blocked because he had no money and no background. He couldn't be satisfied with what he had right now. There was still a place he had to get to. To do so, he needed money.
Amy, who was married to Owen, was angry every day she came into the office. The idea that she had been cheated on, occupied her mind.
The business flourished and although she had no estates, her status was thought to be comparable to that of a Count's.
However, she was in a precarious state with Owen.
“Marrying me on such a subject?! This is a fraudulent marriage!”
Amy was furious, but there was no way. She was praised for her beautiful appearance before and after her marriage, but if she returned from divorce, she would not get the same attention as before.
If she had known this, she would not have been caught in a bind with such a man. She could not grow old while carrying such a tacky debt. She had to s.h.i.+ne, she had to be everyone's idol, and she needed money to do that.
Then, Noel and Amy thought.
“It's all about my sister.”
“It's all about my sister.”
She should take responsibility instead because she did not properly support him from the beginning.
She should take responsibility instead because her marriage with Owen used up all of her expenses.
So they didn't feel remorse.
It is all Adrienne's fault that we won't take responsibility properly. They were so convinced.
‘We have it so hard, we're alone.'
Because they lived well, their view on life was twisted. There was no evidence that their sister did anything but Amy and Noel seemed to take their sister for granted.
They should be able to spend Adrienne's money. They were greedy for Adrienne's wealth.
Adrienne agreed to meet with Amy and Noel. They visited her after such a long time and asked for help, so she was happy to pay. She could afford it, and she didn't hope for her siblings to fail.
But it didn't take long for Adrienne to realize her mistake. Their exchanges never ended, with both of them coming back two or three more times. Furthermore, the time-gap between each visit became shorter.
This time, when Amy and Noel arrived, Adrienne spoke firmly.
“There is no money that I can give you now, live on your own.”
Seeing that the two did not try to solve their problems with their own money, Adrienne realized. It was her fault. She felt a sense of responsibility and would solve every problem for her siblings.
So she called out her siblings—hoping that Amy and Noel would live their own lives.
But it was a betrayal. The heavens did not put any effort to return Adrienne's expectations. Was Adrienne no longer helpful to them? She was not family, but an obstacle?
Adrienne was on her way to visit her parent's grave on the anniversary of their death. Their tomb was over the mountain because, at that time, she was too poor to bury them elsewhere.
On the way there, she was attacked by unknown people. She couldn't take an escort from the Ophelia shop to accompany her.
Only a few people knew she was here. They would not be able to find her unless they were looking for a specific grave.
There were not many people who could target Adrienne in this place. She didn't notice the moment that she was ambushed.
Her brother and sister. Amy and Noel, two of them targeted her.
In the end, Adrienne was ambushed and driven off the edge of the cliff.
And she floated powerlessly off the edge of the cliff.
During the short moment she was cras.h.i.+ng down, many thoughts pa.s.sed through her mind. She thought of her life moments before her death.
The moment she died, she finally thought.
I have no luck. There's especially no luck in having a family.
Adrienne's consciousness, which was almost completely cut off, slowly came back to her.
It was dark, and then she felt a rush of heat. The dazzling light enveloped her.
She could hear crying in her ear. A woman was weeping.
“Heuk. Huk, uh……huu”
Her eyelids shook.
She slowly opened her eyes. The light was no longer there and the atmosphere that she was suddenly put into, did not feel strange… She spoke.
She wanted to express her words to the woman but she couldn't. Her voice was locked as if she had not spoken for a long time.
“What if she doesn't wake up?”
“Why would you say that?”
The woman's sobbing was still there. Someone was crying beside her but they couldn't hear her voice, and her body wouldn't budge. At that moment, there was only one thought on Adrienne's mind.
‘I'm going to be depressed regardless of where I go.'
Adrienne wanted to close her eyes again. She didn't want to hear this sound anymore.
‘It's terrible.'
Adrienne started to despise crying at one point.
Of course, she didn't want anyone else to cry.
No one had shed tears for her before but she ignored them.
“Heuk, but it's too pathetic.”
“She's going to wake up! So stop sounding so sinister.”
The cries continued without rest. There was a reason why Adrienne had a terrible dislike of crying.
It was the tears she had shed for 10 years. She always had to cry before she went to sleep.
But the first things she heard after coming back from death were grave-sounding cries. She was anxious because she did not know what was going on.
‘I don't want to hear it.'
But after hearing those voices, she wavered.
Should she just close her eyes and lose consciousness again? It was time for Adrienne to close her eyes.
“L-Lady?”
“Yella. Not this again.”
The name of the woman who had just shed tears was Yella. She noticed that Adrienne had woken up.
“Merrill! Look at the lady. I feel like I'm dreaming!”
She said excitedly. Merrill was a middle-aged woman. She stood by Yella's side and was the one who comforted and reprimanded her.
“Yella. That's what… Eureka! Lady!”
Her voice stopped and she cried out in amazement. Merrill rushed in.
A little fuss happened and suddenly, both Merrill and Yella's faces were in front of her.
Their eyes were red.
But Yella's eyes, which had no tears, began to moisten again.
Please calm down and give me some room. Adrienne sincerely hoped, but it was unlikely that the two would calm down easily.
“Lady. Do you mind?”
“……”
“If you're ok, blink your eyes once.”
When Adrienne blinked, Yella's tear glands finally burst.
“You did it, I'm so relieved! I was so worried.”
“Yella. The lady just woke up. Let her rest. How long are you going to cry for?”
Merrill was not crying like Yella, but she was excited.
“I'm sorry. I'm so relieved. I'm sorry, I can't control myself.”
“I'd like to call for a checkup. Are you uncomfortable?”
Merrill calmly cleared the situation and asked Adrienne.
Her body was so heavy that she couldn't move and her throat was so uncomfortable that she couldn't get her voice out.
Adrienne shook her head instead of answering.
Shortly thereafter, the doctor arrived and examined Adrienne. Her body temperature and mouth were checked.
Merrill and Yella were watching from the side throughout the whole visit.
“All good, except she is slightly dehydrated.”
“Her life was at risk for all of the days she was unconscious. It could've been much worse than this."
