Lunch went on rather well. Granny and Lei Kang hit it off rather well, and started chatting about the latest news from the O Cult to the how the kingdom's politics were going about. I never knew that Granny was interested in politics.

Anyways, they talked about how one old man raided another, how this young sapling had promise, the thirteen hidden wyverns and the fourteen souring dragons. I couldn't understand any of it, so I just treated as white noise accompanying the meal.

I guess my view of the world is still so shallow despite my age. Well, the only times I do visit a city is sell my stock so it doesn't really matter that much, now does it?

Although one weird thing did stand out. When we finished our lunch, and Granny was about to leave, she patted Lei Kang's shoulder and said, "Young man, good luck! I'm rooting for ya!"

Looking at the sky now, it seems that there's still an hour or two before sundown. I guess we had lunch quite late today. Lei Kang flashed me a smile and asked, "What's next, senior?"

Since it rained quite a bit, we don't really have a need to water the fields. I've also fed the stock already. I basically have nothing to do until nighttime.

"Walk."

Nothing beats a good exercise after a meal after all.

"Always exercise after eating something hefty. Only that way would you be able to fully digest it into your bones."

Lei Kang's eyes illuminated with the light of a thousand stars as soon as he heard that.

"Yes! I've heard that doing your cultivation exercises after eating medicine is the best way to digest it!!"

Exercise? Medicine? What does that have to do with anything I just said?

So that's it? Your eyes lit because you found a common topic to talk to me with? At least if you're going to continue with the conversation, can you not be so ignorant? If you're eating medicine, it means you're sick. You're not supposed to move when you're sick.

"Don't spout things that you don't understand. If you're lively enough to exercise, why would you need to eat medicine? Eating medicine means you can't move without taking it, so you should only take it when you find yourself unable to move without it. Excessive take is just a waste, and it'll ruin your body."

Youngsters nowadays either have too much money or are too lively. Who would take precious medicine wantonly?

Lei Kang, on the other hand, went silent. This fellow really is weird. He'd go from lively to silent to lively again like a flip of a switch. I hope he's alright.

Ignoring him, I continued with my walk. I'll probably head to the village hall. Hopefully someone other than Granny Luo is there.

"Why shouldn't I take medicine when I'm able to move, senior? I still can't understand that point."

"What? You're still on that? You do realize I don't like repeating myself right?"

However, he did work hard under the rain. I'll make an exception this time.

"Medicine should always be your last resort. As the saying goes, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. By having your body fight for itself, it forges itself to be stronger. If you become reliant on medicine, forget the money you'd throw away, you'll end up throwing away your body as well. You won't reach our old age."

As if lightning hit him, he started to tremble. He then asked me -- or probably himself-- confusingly, "So by working hard by myself, it builds a stronger foundation?"

"Isn't that common sense?"

Are the city people really this dumb? Or is he just looking down on me, being a simple farmer.

He then said dejectedly, "But I've always seen people with access to medicine being stronger than I am…"

"Think of it long term. They might appear strong on the outside, but it's just a castle made of sand. Any small wave could collapse it. You can reach their heights by training your body, or just simply by enduring it. Wasting money isn't good."

I nodded. Yes yes, money is hard to earn, so why waste it on medicine? Even at this age, the times I've actually had to eat medicine is only twice. The last time I got sick was more than ten years ago. Don't underestimate these old bones!

As I made my way to the village hall, i heard some ruckus. Slowing down slightly, I strained these old ears of mine to find its location.

"This is odd. The only noise usually comes from Old Ma's smithery. The noise from the Smithery shouldn't be able to reach here at all."

We're just five people--six if you include Lei Kang--there's no way any of us would make this kind of ruckus.

From the direction of the sound, it seems to be coming from the entrance of the village. The village hall is actually the first building seen after the entrance, unlike other villages where it's usually situated in the middle.

This is due to the fact that the village hall was taken over by Hunter Feng in order to store his bounties, so we just converted one of the abandoned bigger houses to the new village hall. And the most suitable one was coincidentally the one nearest to the entrance.

This might be foul if others were to visit us, since how can we greet our guests near the entrance? But if the kingdom forgot about our village, what kind of guests would visit us?

"Hey hey hey, Lei Kang, come out now before we start tearing down this place to find ya!"

Someone suddenly shouted. The voice sounded like it belonged on the younger side of the spectrum, probably younger than Lei Kang.

When we finally reached the village's entrance, there stood three young men holding swords. One of them even seemed to have stabbed it into the village hall. Don't they know that every house here is precious?

Every building, every window, every door, every wall has a meaning. How dare they stab a sword into the village hall.

I looked at Lei Kang rather angirly, "Friends of yours?"

He shook his head, "More like enemies."

I see. So this brat brought trouble here. I knew nothing good would come out of having him here.

I tried to sound as calm as possible, but a hint of my wrath was still contained in my tone of voice.

"Get out. All of you."

When Lei Kang pointed at himself, I told him to get out as well.

The three young men laughed it off.

"Hey grandpa, don't you know that wolves have come to knock on your door? A simple huff and puff from us and this village would collapse!"

And then the man that stabbed the sword, who seemed to be the leader of the bunch, looked at Lei Kang and said, "I was wondering where you disappeared after yesterday's outing. Weren't you quite arrogant last time? Let's see you being arrogant today!"

Lei Kang bit his tongue and muttered, "I didn't know they'd follow me here…"

I ignored them all and entered the village hall. Worse comes to worse, I'll ring the bell inside and call everyone here. Old Ma and Hunter Feng could probably deal with ten of them.

I didn't know that a minute or two later, all that anger would disappear into apprehension. The three young men had black eyes and swollen faces as they started repairing the wall. Lei Kang came up to me and apologized, saying something about how it was just a misunderstanding. That they would repent by helping out with any small things in the village to make up with it.

After they were done with the wall repairment, they entered the hall. The hall had Fisher Hong and I, obviously Fisher Hong was even more p.i.s.sed than I was. He was staring daggers into all four young men.

Not able to take his gaze straight, they all sat on their knees, heads bent down and apologized sincerely.

I ended up sighing. My body can't handle how these youngsters are so fickle.
