In the cave, the six young masters from the Family Alliance were huddled together. Beth and Bill were lamenting among themselves.
"Second time we return to the card dimension and once again misfortune follows us like a leech!" Bill sighs.
Beth keeps a lookout and the other people in the group look gloomy. The six people were were Bill and Beth Flynn, Joyce Mills, Trisha Venn, William Pool and Sven Goransson.
They were from four families which were a part of the Family Alliance. To have ended up in this situation was humiliating.
"To think our guards would be killed by that b.a.s.t.a.r.d." Joyce lamented with a gloomy face. He had never been in such terrifying situation before, hiding in a cave with all the guards dead.
At that moment, the six youth heard some movements and panic began to appear in their eyes. Beth and Bill, who were guarding the mouth of the cave steadied themselves for any a.s.sault. However, when they saw who arrived they felt a wave of relief wash over them.
"It's you, Alex!" Bill and Beth said with excitement.
Alex nodded. "I saw you from guys from over there." Alex said pointing way above towards a mountain cliff. "Why are you hiding here in this cave?"
At that moment, the other four young people saw who had arrived and was talking to the Flynn siblings and a bitter feeling came in their mouth as they looked at Joyce. It had been Joyce's arrogant words that had made this man split from the group.
Later on during their travels, the Flynn siblings had explained how the young man had saved them during their previous outing and when they were attacked later, they regretted being hostile to the young man even more.
Beth sighed. "It is a long story, come into the cave and join us." Alex nodded and entered the cave.
Joyce, who saw Alex, had an ugly face. He also saw the other young masters blaming him for the turn of events and his heart turned bitter. Alex simply ignored the others and just talked to the Flynn siblings.
Bill sighed and began narrating. "Remember we told you our group was heading out to find a special item. Well we found it.
However, we weren't the only ones. When we found the special item, we tried to immediately take it away. However, a b.a.s.t.a.r.d in red hair appeared. He alone was much more stronger than our group and overwhelmed us.
When we warned him we were from the Family Alliance, he said that he was from the Scarlet Tide and he already hated the Family Alliance and threatened to slaughter us.
According to him, the special item belonged to the Scarlet Tide. The special item was a clay tablet with a simple mark of a cat's paw on it.
In desperation, the guards tried to stall him so we could hide and eventually hide in this cave. However, our guards are probably dead and now we are afraid to head out because he might be lurking around."
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Scarlet Tide? Are you sure there was only one person?" The others all nodded.
"If it is one person, it is still possible to escape. Staying here is simply a death sentence." Alex said. "Do you have a map where you can point out where he came from?"
The others nodded and soon showed him their relative positions on the map as well as where the person from Scarlet Tide was spotted.
Alex nodded. "If we follow this route, we can avoid these spots. But he will most probably be antic.i.p.ating the same and try to wait here to block these routes trying to preempt your movements. So if we simply take the route where he fought with your guards, it should be the safest path back."
When the others heard that, they felt doubtful. They did not wish to leave the cave. However, the Flynn siblings didn't care. "Brother Alex, we will follow you." They said.
The others were reluctant, but when these two decided to follow they also decided to try their luck. Worse comes to worse they would have to attack the person seven to one.
After they prepared, Alex the group along to retrace the path backwards from their first encounter point with the person from scarlet tide. Just as Alex had predicted, the person was nowhere to be found, but they found the dead bodies of the guards who had valiantly saved their lives, and sighed. The bodies had been looted by the scarlet tide member.
Steeling their hearts, they quickly made their return, and after a while, they finally returned to the well trodden path leading to the shelter.
"Thank you ex, for helping us out." Sven said. Joyce looked embarra.s.sed and also spoke up. "Alex I am sorry for being rude and dismissing you off earlier." Alex shrugged and decided to let bygones be bygones.
Alex was not a pure person, while he considered himself to be on the side of chaotic good, his reasons for trying to brush off the past was for pragmatic reasons. Having acquaintances within the Family Alliance, especially these kind of young masters wasn't a bad thing at all.
As the group were returning towards the shelter, they came across a person. The person seemed to have been standing on the road with a dazed expression. Alex saw the person and his face had surprise on it as well.
The person was none other than the ninja. When the young masters saw the ninja, their hearts went cold with fear and awe. None of them didn't know the ident.i.ty of this ninja and the family line they belonged to.
Alex looked at the Ninja and laughed. "What were thinking about in a daze? Good to see nothing happened to you."
The Ninja saw Alex and nodded, embarra.s.sed at being caught in such a weird expression. "Did you eventually find anything? I went upstream and found nothing. Returned to find you, but the entire place had been flooded and in ruin. I wondered if you died."
Alex shrugged. "I almost died, twice. I am not too sure how I am alive myself, but my curiosity almost had me done for this time around. I succeeded in investigating what happened. But I never got to ask you, who were you investigating it on behalf of?"
"Adventure House." The Ninja replied nonchalantly.
"Very well. We can share the rewards of the investigation." Let's go to the adventure house later.
As the two were talking, the other six were terrified in shock. How did this young man know this person? And they seemed to be coordinating on a mission together?
