"Where are the servants that should have bought the ingredients? Have they returned back?"
"Hurry!"
The situation in the kitchen was chaotic as the servants were having trouble with how the king seemed to order more guards at the entrance. There was simply no way for them to get out of the palace without getting noticed and at the same time, they have to be inspected thoroughly.
"I feel that we're already like prisoners in this state."
"Uh, the King is anxious because it's already time for the geniuses to depart. There's no other reason than that."
As the servants were busy, at one corner, Ye Jiao listened to their conversation carefully. She was paying close attention to what they were saying to make sure that she get more information regarding this place. After all, they did this mission abruptly without any preparation whatsoever beforehand.
It was dangerous to go into the enemies' territory without preparing for anything beforehand.
"Hey you, don't idle around!"
"Yes!" Ye Jiao stepped into the kitchen as the servant shoved her in. Looking at the large pots before her, she was stunned. Apparently, they were making soup for dinner and the servants had no choice but to cook them all in one place to make it quick.
The servant behind her pushed her slightly. "Come on, maintain the fire!"
"Ah, yes."
Moving towards the boiling pots, Ye Jiao looked at the content with curiosity. She never worked in the kitchen before, so she totally wasn't sure how it worked. Turning her head to the side, she noticed another servant who was tending the fire.
"Excuse me, is this for the Imperial Family?"
The servant glanced at her. "Yeah, so you have to make sure that they're cooked well. If it's not, our heads won't sit on top of our neck anymore."
"Ah…" Ye Jiao smiled bitterly. Being a servant must not be easy. "How about the servant's portion?"
"It's in the back kitchen. We'll only start preparing them when this is finished, otherwise, we won't have much time," the servant yawned. "Did you work in a different division previously? Your attire seemed to be from the inner palace."
In truth, Ye Jiao just conveniently picked one of the servants that pa.s.sed by and borrowed her clothes. Since they have similar built, Ye Jiao a.s.sumed that it would be safe for her to enter the palace disguising herself as a servant. She totally wasn't sure how things worked here, but her attire did seem different from the others.
They were all wearing light cream clothes, but the sash' color was different. Hers was darker while the others were light. Probably, it was the one that differentiated where they worked.
"Yeah."
"Well, you should return back soon then," the servant turned her attention back to the pot. "It's not going to be safe if your master is looking for you and you're still here helping us out."
"I'll be going in a while."
As the servant turned her attention elsewhere, Ye Jiao took out a bottle from her pocket. It was a bottle that Lu Wan gave to her before they went their separate ways. This bottle contained a deadly poison which will slowly kill the person who ingested it in the matter of a day.
It was slow, but if it was not cured in time, they would surely die. As there was no sign of being poisoned, no one would be able to realize that they have been poisoned by this poison. It was convenient.
Drip, drip, drip.
As Eon Energy Master Rank 3, Ye Jiao didn't need to exert a lot of effort to use her Eon Energy and dropped several drops into the pot. After ensuring that she had covered all of the pots, Ye Jiao walked out of the kitchen and entered the back kitchen. It was the one that was prepared for servants.
She took out a different bottle. This time, it was a sleeping medicine. She poured the content into the nearby well as she knew that they would need to use the water from the well if they wanted to cook.
'This dose should be enough to make them all sleepy.'
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
"Ah," Ye Jiao noticed a guard nearby. She flashed a smile. "I'm sorry, I was tasked by His Highness to check on the preparation of the meal, so I wander off here."
The guard's body stiffened when he heard the word 'his highness.' There were several princes in this kingdom and each of them was not that likeable. They have their own temper and the guard would prefer to not pry into their business.
Besides, he knew that the meal was taking a bit long to prepare this time. It was not weird if one of them sent a servant to inquire.
"Ah, we're sorry. It seems that the preparation will take a long time."
"I can see that," Ye Jiao smiled. "I'll relay the news to His Highness. Please excuse me."
With that excuse, the guard no longer has any reason to keep Ye Jiao behind. He sighed to himself as he returned back to his post, not suspecting Ye Jiao in the slightest. After all, what she said and did perfectly copied what a servant usually did.
Ye Jiao walked to the inner palace. Upon seeing her attire, the guards didn't question her too much and let her in. It seemed like she had picked quite a high ranking servant's clothes not long ago.
'It also means that I don't have much time.'
The higher a ranking the servant has, the more responsibility they had. It would be hard for that person to disappear for a long period of time without anyone noticing, so Ye Jiao had to move faster.
Walking towards the inner palace, Ye Jiao was astounded by the rich coloring and engraving on the walls. The design of the inner palace was extremely good as it shouted the word elegant.
"Good day to you, is there anything wrong?" a guard asked Ye Jiao when he saw the young girl stopped in her tracks.
Ye Jiao turned her head. "Ah, I'm just confused on the way to His Majesty's quarter. I was tasked by His Highness to retrieve an item, but I'm unfamiliar with the way."
The guard arched his eyebrows and pointed to the right side. "Just follow the stone path and you'll arrive there."
"Thank you very much."
As Ye Jiao walked away, the guard was looking at the young girl's visage with a frown. He didn't recall any high ranking servant that young. Moreover, that girl's countenance seemed to be oddly familiar.
'Forget it, it's not important.'
Thanks to the guard, Ye Jiao soon arrived safely in Chen Tian's quarter.
