Radley sat down next to Ruby who already had a few too many or she was just weak to alcohol. Ruby offered him a drink, "Have one with us!" Music was booming, something he actually enjoyed, though it wasn't his genre the song was good. Luckily, it wasn't a country. He took the drink and jumped up onto her chair, "To the champion of the Compet.i.tion! A s.h.i.+ning example for all low levels! Screw the high levels! They only want to boss us grunts around! To "the Loner'!" Everyone cheers to that and really started drinking. Radley nodded and raised his cup. He had no idea just how big these compet.i.tions were. He took a sip of his drink and nearly gagged. It was repulsive. He leaned in closer to ruby, "What is this swill?"

The combination of drinks, loud music and his damaged throat she could hear him, "What!?" She was unnecessarily loud. He sighed and pointed to his drink, "Oh, that! That's homemade beer."

He made a face of disgust and pushed the drink away. She shrugged and grabbed his beer, "Your loss!" and finished it for him. Radley couldn't believe she just drank that without flinching. He started grabbing jugs and smelled their contents. Ruby handed over a mug with liquid in, "They call this mead, bit sweet, but good."

Radley smelled it and then took a sip. To his surprise, it was actually good, really good. He downed it on the spot. He started piling food on his plate and started scarfing it down.

A guy wearing gla.s.ses sat in front of him and looked at Radley with a creepy look, "How did you do it?"

Radley shrugged inquiringly, slightly shaking his head. The man had jet black hair and brown eyes near black. Pretty geeky looking but not unattractive. Lv. 3, Ethan, inquisitive nature, "You were able to beat everyone within five minutes, and even then, you seemed like you weren't even trying. I don't think you are a level one. How did you fool the system?"

Ruby wasn't having any of it, "Oi, Ethan. Radley is a bada.s.s. Stop interrogating him!"

Radley lifted his hand to stop her. He produced his pocket knife and nicked himself. He then presented his bleeding finger to Ethan.

Ethan raised his noose but smelled his blood anyway. His eyes widened, "This just can't be right. How are you faking it so well?"

Radley slapped his own forehead and continued eating.

Ethan saw his reaction and asked, "You aren't faking it, are you?"

Radley nodded, which surprised Ethan, "You're serious? Holy c.r.a.p. You are probably the most prodigious level one ever. What's your secret then?"

Radley shrugged. He wasn't about to tell them about the system, chances are they will just laugh him off.

The night went on without incident until about nine o'clock. When all h.e.l.l broke loose.

Ruby had a beer in hand and raised it, "Who dares me!?"

Everybody cheered. Radley was confused. She grabbed Radley and kissed him, deeply. That snapped his string, "Kching…"

His voice had recovered a bit by then, "Time for bed Ruby."

He picked her up and slung her over his shoulder. She waved bye to everyone with a ma.s.sive smile, "I finally become a woman tonight. Woooooo!"

Radley shook his head. Everyone was cheering as he left with her. He had experience dealing with a drunkard. He remembered that her room was next to his and took her there. He placed her on the bed but she wouldn't let go. He knew what she wanted but to him, that would be considered unethical. He kissed her on the forehead and whispered into her ear, "I just need to freshen up."

She smiled lazily as she s.h.i.+fted herself to get more comfortable. He removed her shoes and placed them on the side of the bed. He went to the other side of the bed and gently placed the blanket over her. He got her a gla.s.s of water and made her drink it. He then sat on the bed and gently rubbed her head. In no time at all, she was fast asleep.

He stood up and made his way to his room to sleep. A bunch of people was still making a lot of noise making it hard for him to sleep.

The next morning he woke up in a rather cranky mood. He got little sleep and the sun wouldn't allow him to sleep more. He decided to go pester Ruby, who he gathered had a ma.s.sive hangover.

He opened her door to see she was still asleep. Low and behold, she was. His throat had completely healed up by then. He went closer to her ear and shouted, "WAKE UP! There is a battle going on!"

She woke up with a start nearly knocking Radley on the chin, "Wai, wha, who!?"

"Morning suns.h.i.+ne."

"Aah, Radley you a.s.shole…"

"Do you remember everything last night?"

The realization hit her like a bag of rocks, "Oh, my, G.o.d. I freaking kissed you!"

"That you did. I am actually impressed you remembered."

"We didn't go all the way, did we?"

"No, we didn't I just tucked you in and went to bed."

"Seriously? You had your chance and missed it?"

"I know you would have woken up with a lot of regrets."

She shook her head, "The strange thing is. I don't think I would have."

He raised an eyebrow, "Well, it wouldn't have sat well with me. I have to admit. You are pretty d.a.m.n easy when you are drunk."

She shook her head again, "No, that isn't how I usually am, even when I am drunk, I refused advances. Did you place some sort of spell on me?"

"Huh? Why would I do that?"

"I don't know. You know you got me all confused and s.h.i.+t."

"Well, I needed to wake you. I am leaving today."

"Wait, what!?"

"Yeah, my destiny was never to remain, as cliché as that might sound. I just came here to improve my gear. Today that's all done."

"Oh, I barely got to know you."

"Just as well. I've got some issues I am still sorting through, and I fear forming connections. "With that, he left with a wave, "Goodbye Ruby."

She looked at him leave and sighed, "Just as well, never knew what I would do if he were to remain. Goodbye, Radley."
